    Quote from Judasremains »
The thing I hate is the infinite burning logs, they're hell to get up to to cut down, especially if they're branches, because even with pillaring, there is always one or two that require extra pillars just to be able to reach and the constant danger of falling is burdensome.

I love burning trees. Sometimes I'll set entire forests on fire just to watch them burn. They're fun to explore at night, too -- gives the game extra added danger of creepers & skeletons sneaking up on you.

Is this now a meme? (Sorry, been absent for awhile...)

posted a message on Falling gravel is fun
Recently I built a mob trap which would capture livestock and drop them down a narrow, deep pit. Then I'd drop gravel on top of them, and listen to them moo, bleat & squeal as they slowly suffocated to death.

For some reason, the sound was disturbingly satisfying.

Back on-topic: has Notch ever stated what his intentions with lanterns are as far as rarity goes?

    No, he has NOT.

He joked once on Twitter about "You might have to go to hell" to make lanterns.

He was trolling. Plain and simple.

All you people who've been arguing this topic for THIRTY ****ING PAGES fell for his troll. Notch is laughing his ass off at all you fools who fell for it. In fact, Notch probably skipped the torch/lantern update just so he could watch this utter trainwreck thread become and even longer utter trainwreck thread and laugh at all of you fools even more. Never mess with a Master Troll.

posted a message on Is this a lot of minerals in one mine?
    Quote from Froggerbob »
Uhhh depends on how big your mine is. I've pulled 8800 redstone, 1400 diamond, 550 gold, and no idea how many coal and iron. But I've also pulled 188 large chests of stone out recently.

(This is a 1000x1000x22 pit at the bottom of the world). And yes, I did speed up my system clock a bit.

This was in fact one trip, because of the fact I use powered chest-carts to do my hauling.

Holy ****, dude. How big is your world?

(And here I thought my diamond mine was epic...)

Okay, I'll admit...not all of it is real.

I did place the block of sand, and some of the gravel.

    And the torches.

All the rest is 100% legit, though. :Skeleton: :|: :Notch:

Found another massive cluster of multiple ore veins...it's not as epic as the previous one (no diamonds, sadly) but I think it's still pretty cool. Pics below:

Halo, call of duty, alien vs predator, singularity, just to name a few.

Ah, so I was right. :wink.gif:

That said...what's wrong with having a "Super Easy" option? It would greatly increase the game's potential sales, and neither you nor I would be forced to play on that mode. :tongue.gif:

This game is about survival. It's not The Sims.

No, you're wrong. Minecraft is a BUILDER'S game. Survival Mode only exists for people who want that extra added challenge of dealing with dangerous creatures at night. Most of the game's core audience will probably stick with Peaceful Mode.

This game already has a large female fanbase, due to the fact that it's a BUILDER'S game. Sure, the game could use extra crafting & cooking (and Notch has already announced on his twitter that he WILL add these features soon!) but that's irrelevant. Traditionally, BUILDER games attract females in very large numbers -- games like Farmville, or The Sims. In fact, I often describe Minecraft as "The Sims + Creepers."

Oh, did I mention that those two games are two of the most popular computer games ever? That's right, any game which manages to capture the female market (since nearly all games are orientated towards males) is almost guaranteed to become a best seller. Just sayin' is all. :smile.gif:

Here's my estimated totals from a month's worth of mining:
    110 diamonds
    170 gold
    850 redstone
    ~450 iron (*)
    ~1200 coal (*)
(*) -- the last two are guesstimates, since I'm always using up my iron & coal for torches and minecart tracks, so I never kept track of actual amounts. Also, these numbers don't reflect the large amounts of diamond, gold & redstone I left in place purely for decoration.

So yeah...mining can be very profitable, once you get a good system working. :smile.gif:

posted a message on Have caverns gotten bigger lately?
    Quote from sinrakin »
It seemed like when I started playing, a week or two before the Halloween update, caves were big, but explorable. I could pretty much fully explore a big one in a couple of hours. But lately, the scale of the caves has just gotten bigger, especially in the vertical dimension, so that I almost feel like it's no longer possible to fully explore one, even in days. They all just keep connecting to each other, they pretty much all go from practically bedrock (level 12 or so), up to the surface or way up inside mountains, with tons of lave waterfalls and almost (but not quite, so they aren't chunk errors) sheer 40 and 50-block drops inside them. Or have I just gotten better at noticing little connections way up above my head that take you to a new cave?

Nothing's changed...I've discovered massive caverns exactly like you describe, long before the Halloween Update.

I'm actually hoping Notch makes even bigger ones. :smile.gif:

You other people whining about torches going out are the reason why every goddamn shooter since the year 2000 has regenerating health and a pistol with infinite ammo. "Why do I have to find health packs and ammo?! This game is about shooting stuff, not running around finding supplies to shoot stuff!"

WTF are you talking about??? I've never even heard of an FPS with this feature!

Once a thread or very similar is posted about 900 times, it can get a bit annoying, repetitive, and boring. It may have been interesting or comedic the first few times, but what the hell, man?

Which is precisely why these boards require a subforum specifically dedicated to sharing stories about Minecraft. It would reduce traffic on the main MA/SSP board, and people could talk about their game experiences without being constantly nagged by jaded, curmudgenly people like you. :tongue.gif:
