Yeah, I sorta agree with this. It reminds me how much I want finite water. If only Mojang weren't so lazy and got around do making proper water.
There's a mod for Finite Liquids. But the oceans are infinite in the mods, so that our computers are able to run it. Even so, I think this mod would prevent the dig-a-trench-to-power-waterwheel "exploit", unless you put your water wheel in a cave with one of those source blocks you sometimes see. Those cave-water blocks are still there and act just like normal Minecraft water.
The wooden engines need mechanical power to operate, which is supplied by the waterwheel, which is powered by the spout, which in turn gets it's water from the pump, which is powered by the wooden engines.
Which begs the question, where did the startup power come from with no external sources of mechanical power?
It's a mystery...
Disclaimer: It isn't really, but meh...
Concerning the question you raised, I "jump-started" this machine with a windmill and then tore down the windmill. If there is another way to start a watermill in BtB, I don't know what it is. I can't place water buckets fast enough to get a waterwheel going. Maybe I could have filled the spout's tank up using water buckets beforehand. I wonder if that's possible and how many water buckets it would take.
Haha, whoops I updated from 1.0 to finally try out BTW and forgot that 1.2 had come out. That was silly of me. Looking forward to the updated version. I had ignored the mod for a while because of what I percieved as an attitude problem. Now that I've watched some of the recent interview videos I'm very impressed by both the acheivements FlowerChild has made and at his attempts to work with the community even when it didn't work out the way some might have wished.
Thanks for all the great work.
When I first saw the Better than Wolves mod in Yog's YouTube video last year, I thought it was a mod that someone made as a joke because he hated wolves so much. It looked to me like the main advantage of building all these BtW contraptions was getting doughnuts, and I was perfectly happy with my bread.
A few days ago someone linked Flowerchild's ditching Forge interview in another thread. I disagreed with what he said about Forge, but he made Better than Wolves sound like a really good mod. I downloaded BtBC for the first time and built the BtW contraptions just for the fun of working with the new machinery. I didn't even make the doughnuts. (I like mushroom soup because it doesn't a farm.)
Now I enjoy the game for the "hemp tycoon" aspect of the game. The elevators are fun too. The BuildCraft features are hard, but I've finally figured out how to pump water into a hemp farm.

What decompiler does he use then? :3
I can assume he's spent some time comparing the obfuscated code to de-obfuscated, which means he knows what is what, and as all he does if port it for each new version he doesn't have much work to do
How are mods updated for new Minecraft versions? Does the old mod code just have to be copy pasted into the new class files?
That's a good idea. I'm not sure whether crafting recipes can be conditional, though. IIRC they are loaded when the game start.
Is it possible to make it so that, for example, turmeric could only be harvested by a Norman hoe? (Similar to how diamonds can only be harvested by an iron pick axe.)
Because if you could, why would you trade with the village?
I would still trade with the village to help them get the equipment they need to improve their village. I would still trade with the village to improve my reputation with them.
Players can help their village's children grow faster by growing rice and selling/giving it back to the village.
Players can feel more like they're are part of the village they live in by growing the native crops of that culture in the field plots they've purchased from the village. It's fun to plant for role-playing reasons.
Players could also plant Millénaire-specific crops just because they like it decorating their personal fields.
My problem is that, with Fraps, I almost need to record in full screen to make videos. My screen resolution is 1680 x 1050, so halfsize won't work for HD, and I can't manage without HD... At half size? It works fine. I get my 30 frames, it only really drops below when loading a new chunk, but it's fine other than that. But full size? I'll stay at 30, but if I move a bit or jump or something? Drops hard. Stabilizes at like 18.
Are you having trouble setting your window at exactly 720p (1280x720)? You can download "Sizer" by Brian Apps to set your Minecraft window to exactly 1280x720 for optimal recording resolution.
Are you using any mods besides OptiFine? Some mods will really use a lot of CPU time. Finite Liquid and Millénaire are maxing out my 3.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo e8400, for example.
What else is there? Is there a mod better than the two I've tried? A better way to allocate memory to the game? Is there some common FPS raising knowledge I've managed to not find out about? Is there another good
I don't know anything about allocating more memory, but make sure you're using 64-bit Java.
Since your using a 64-bit operation system, you should make sure you have a 64-bit version of Java installed and that Minecraft is using it over the 32-bit version. You can check if Minecraft is using a 64-bit Java or not by setting view distance to "far". If Minecraft is using 32-bit Java, red text will pop up when you switch to "far" warning that you are not using 64-bit Java.
OS: Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz 2.34 GHz
RAM: 8gb
System Type: 64 bit
Video card: ATI Radeon HD 4650 1024mb
HDD: 1tb
What should I prioritize in updating? I'd like a better processor, but they're like a few hundred dollars each and maybe the most expensive part. I've got a quad core, so I hope that's good enough. What would be the best part to update for recording minecraft gameplay? Video card? I know it's old.
What texture pack are you using? Is it an HD pack or a 16x16 texture pack? Unless your using an HD texture pack, your graphics card should be sufficient.
As far as Fraps goes, the thing that makes Fraps lag is the hard drive. A good solid state drive should help a lot here.
If you want to upgrade your CPU, you should be aware that Intel is releasing a new CPU architecture in April. These chips will likely give you more performance for your dollar. And since this is for Minecraft, I highly recommend Intel over AMD. AMD's main benefit is it's many cores. Intel chips usually only have about 2 cores. Minecraft can only take advantage of one core, unless you have OptiFine installed. With OptiFine, Minecraft takes advantage of two cores.
If you get a new CPU now, the cheapest you will want to go is the i3 2100 for $115. This CPU is not the most powerful, but it gets you the most bang for the buck, even though it's the least powerful of the current generation of Intel chips.
Next up is the i3 2120 for $128, then the i3 2130 for $150, then the i5 2300 and i5 2400 for $180, the i5 2500 for $210, then if you want to over clock, the most powerful I would recommend is the i5 2500k for $225. These are the only CPUs you should really consider. If you are considering a different CPU please message me first, so I can save you from making a mistake.
While you're upgrading your CPU make sure you get lots of RAM too. RAM is cheap now days. Look on pcpartpicker.com; you can find 8GB of DDR3 RAM for less than $30 easily.
I don't use pre-released versions, it ruins the "oh my god this is AMAZING" feeling when the full version of the update comes out
But yea, i feel bad for him
Okay, I see; you want a HD Skins v2.0, not a 1.9 pre5 compatible version.
Well, he did just lose his home or something. Minecraft Beta 1.9 Pre-5 just came out a week and a half ago, and Minecraft 1.0 is coming out in less than two weeks, so he may skip prerelease-5, especially since he is still trying to find a place to live or something.

LOL
I hope BtW never adds new mobs.
"HER"? "Corners"? Are these real things?

Will they also plant wheat seeds in random spots as they wander away?

By "8-bit skins" do you mean skins with a 256-color pallet? If so, is version 2 of this mod supposed to increase the color table to 16-bit?
