Considering that every database/catalog entry would potentially need to be translated into every language that Minecraft is offered in, you would need to specify how an entry is displayed (if at all), if it has not yet been translated into the selected language.
I've changed my thread to say in part of it "In this thread, all of the entry examples I've shown are in English, in game the ywould be translated depending on what language your game is set in, they would also be available in audio for people with bad sight."
Apart from the new Update Aquatic, minecraft has been lacking with its exploration gameplay. All of the players are already used to all of the biomes, mobs, and structures, but that doesn't mean they have to add new ones. Here's where the Data Base comes in. You either spawn with it or craft it out of basic materials, it could be in the form of a PDA. You would have to hold down left click on a block, mob, plant, ect, (it can't destroy anything or do damage) for a few seconds and the Data Base would unlock an entry for the thing you just held down on, so you basically scanned or researched it. When you right click while holding the Data Bank an organizer would pop up, this could be closed by clicking E or Esc, in this organizer would be several folders. The folders would be Mobs, Plants, Tools, Weapons, Blocks, ect, and in this folders would be sub-folders, like clicking on Mobs would bring up the sub-folders Passive, Neutral, and Agressive, and clicking Plants would bring up the sub-folders Trees, Flowers, ect. You get what I'm going at here, but to show a bit more, I will show examples of entrys below. Each entry will also have a picture. These entrys I'm suggesting and the Data Bank would give the player an urge to explore, discover, cand catalog new things, without the actual need to add new things to the game. This would remove the Crafting Book for this, as the entrys will have recipes in them, but that's a small price to pay, if any. If this was ever added to the game, though it probably won't be, Microsoft would probably add new things to explore with it, which is even better. Now on to a bit of examples of entrys. In this thread, all of the entry examples I've shown are in English, in game the ywould be translated depending on what language your game is set in, they would also be available in audio for people with bad sight.
Oak Tree
The Oak Tree is the most common Tree on the Block World, commonly found in Biomes like the Forest and Plains, and ocassionally dotted around Biomes like Savanna.
In The Wild
Upon the creation of a world, Oak Trees are planted in a variety of biomes for help when the player spawns in. They can be found in the Mountains, Plains, Forest and Flower Forest, dotted around a Birch Forest, the Dark Oak Forest, Jungle, Savanna, Plateuo and the Wooded Badlands.
Uses
These trees are known by all for their wood contents, allowing players to build a crafting table, someting crucial in survival.
This same research needs to be done on specifically the wood to find out more uses.
Decoration Values
This Tree adds a touch of greenery to any outdoor building!
Jungle Tree
The Jungle Tree is truley a peice of wonder and amazement, it has lots of uses ranging from building a Crafting Table to using it as your foundation for a house!
Cultivation
Just planting a sapling provides you with a Jungle Tree in similar size proportions to an Oak Tree, although letting one sit for quite a while, and with the right conditions, can replicate those in the wild. Wild Cocoa Beans can also be grown on the wood of a Jungle Tree, with use in Cooking.
In The Wild
In the wild, Jungle Trees were left to sit for large proportions of time during world preperation, allowing them to have grown to huge sizes. The reason they grow to such huge sizes is a competition of sunlight with local plants, they've grown big to collect the most, leaving other plants smaller, like the Jungle Shrubs, a close cousin to the Jungle Tree.
Vine growth on the exterior and hanging from leaves shows that Jungle Trees are thousands of 10 minute Minecraft days old. The vines use the huge trunk of the tree as support to grow higher up, so they too can gather sunlight, the Jungle Trees don't mind this.
Parrots seem to live in the Jungle alongside these trees, eating the leaves but not the Cocoa Beans, which are highly toxic to a Parrots digestive system.
Base Support
Weather you're in a Faction or just need a cosy place to build, Jungles Trees have your back! Using the trunk to build a spiral staircase, or building bridges inbetween the trees, those trunks give lot's of support.
Food Wise
How they give food you ask? Unlike the passive mobs of the Jungle, players don't eat tree bark, instead they grow Cocoa beans, which can be used to create Chocolate Chip Cookies, although you shouldn't feed them to parrots, they're posinous to them. Cookies wouldn't have your back in a life or death situation, but are a Luxary Food for anyone who needs a quick break from building.
Bone Block
Location
These Bones are found underground, you will have to dig out and excavate the blocks to retreive them. Though instead of digging quarrys just to find them, caves sometimes erode through them, which is probably how you stumbled upon the block to begin with.
Reason
These Bones cataloged were found deep underground, and belonging to no mob found as of yet, meaning the mob it belonged too is either extinct, or on the verge of extinction.
Uses
Bones are treasured by players for there unique look in building, wether that be framework or decoration. It's not all that grose, some think it is using bones in a building, but fossilization has turned the bones in fossils made of stone.
Nether Portal
It seems experimenting with Obsidian has caused you to somehow create a portal to a mysterious dimension, nicknamed the Nether for your convenience. Although it seems for some reason you had an urge to make the portal, like something was making you, a mysterious force. This same force is seen surrounding the portal. Soft whispers can be heard when going near the portal, and nothing is known about the dimension within by just the ouside of the portal. It seems you need to go in and see whats in for yourself.
Chicken
This animal named the Chicken by other players was first cataloged around an area with other Livestock. They can constantley be seen pecking at the ground, showing just how common small plants and seeds are in the Overworld.
Domestication
In the right conditions, one can simulate a wild environment and breed Chickens. Male Chickens are called Roosters, and have a red flap under their chins, while Female Chickens don't. They can be breeded for their babies, which if grown correctley, can eventually be sent to be slaughtered for their meat or used for company in gardens or bio-domes. Eggs that fail can be used for the creation of backed goods like pumpkin Pie or Cake.
In The Wild
In the wild chickens can be found roaming around areas with lots of greenery and plant life like grassy plains and forests.
Bubble Colums
These Bubble Colums were first seen rising (or sinking) from an Underwater Ravine in the Ocean. During the Cataloging process, they were seen pulling a fish towards an area of magma and volcanic activity at the bottom of the Ravine. Due to that observation, it is advised not to swim directley above the Magma or into the Colum of Bubbles so you too do not get sucked towards the Magma, which would most likely give heat burns or drown you.
Dragon Egg
It seems that the Ender Dragon was only fighting you to protect it's egg. Now that it's dead, the egg is seemingly unhatchable through normal means, extreme research is required. With the Mother Dragon being the last adult of its species, this egg is the only hope, and since unhatchable would probably need to be cloned, although you havn't yet acheived that technology.
Blank Patterned Banner
The banner is a flag used for decoration, establishing a team or holding territory during a Faction. The Banner can be placed on a block or put hanging from a wall. The banner can be coloured and patterned to make designs ranging from a basic red banner to an intricate red pheonix banner.
That was the Data Base and Catalog Entrys suggestion. Wright your opinion down below or add on in a comment if you'd like, if this gets lots of attention I might add more entrys, you could even comment entrys of your own. If you agree type Support in Bold, weather you agree or not be sure to answer the pole.
If you want to support a step further, use the banner below.
Something that would help keep players visually distinctive when in (typically) full diamond or elytra + diamond) would be a nice addition, although my preference is toward displaying banners as tabards rather than as sashimono style accessories.
One obvious question with the sashimono style display is what to do when the player is under a low ceilling or backs against a surface…
About being under a ceiling or backing against a wall, there is a simple solution. It would act like an entity, and be pretty much able to clip through blocks, this would provide no advantage though towards other players.
I completely agree. I don't see how this would cause much lag, if any, and I really like the idea. Although for mixing colors, I think it should be so like you could mix them like Primary Colors, Secondary Colors, ect...
You have absoutley no evidence to back up your claim, it's the same as TheMasterCaver said, you can already dye things in game. Saying this would cause lag is like saying colored wool would cause lag, not even the hundreds of banner designs cause lag. You can already color water in Cauldrons and I think you should be able to do it normally.
1. Make a UI where you can paint your own banner patterns that are completely custom. Paint them? Like using a Canvas?
2. Make it so Banners can be on portable flag poles. Eg. Like Roman standards in battle Are you able to place down the Flag Poles? I think you mean like carrying though, in which case banners are already carried? You probably understand more then i do. Would be cool if they were liek flags, and you could putthem on horse saddles.
3. Make Horses have coat in banner patterns, like the Medieval Knights did. Like on the Saddle? Like a skin?
4. Make custom bed covers with banner patterns. Agreed.
5. Make chestplates be able to have banner patterns, like the medieval knights displayed their coat of arms of them. Like the knights, that would be really cool on Chain Mail, maybe even medeival armour aswell.
6. Be able to make Plumes on helmets using feathers and dyes I like this one, like special helmets and hats. I don't think the knights did that, but the Indiginous groups of the US and Canada did.
My responses are in Bold. Although it may have seen so, I'm not being mean and actually like your ideas. There rather cool, and would fit well in the game, I would use them often. Support!
Disclaimer: This is not a wishlist, most if not all things here have to do with nature, or biomes or plants that relate with them. Most things here are aesthetic and nature related.
Disclaimer: Fair Use! I do not take credit for any of the photos hown in this thread! Any watermarks are not owned by me or anyone I know in any way, shape or form whatsoever!
So I saw a post from leed (credit to him) about minecraft being more alive, I though hey! Why don't I make a post about new nature aspects, like plants or biomes! So here we are! I may add to this thread when I come up with more ideas. You guys add your own ideas in the comments aswell!
Minor Changes: - Adding every mushroom block to the creative inventory.
- Mushroom blocks being like trees, and you being able to get the blocks of them with sheers.
- Ability to plant the swamp trees, the oak trees in swamps with the vines hanging down, already in minecraft but unplantable.
Reeds: Reeds are those tall grass thingys around lakes and ponds, you know the ones with the fluffy hot dog things on top of them. Well they should be in Minecraft, you should find them around rivers, and they are like sugercane, but you can't make sugar from them, only paper.
Zamites: Zamites is a plant from earth, now the plant is extinct though. It looks pretty cool and could work well in a minecraft jungle. It resembles a Ginko, and could either be a small plant in minecraft, or like a small tree. For those of you who want to step it up a notch, it maybe could spawn in dungeon and ruin chests, as it's now extinct on earth, you would need to resurrect it, and plant it back from extinction.
The Zammites from the Fossils and Archeology revival mod.
How the Zamites most definetley looked on earth.
Salt Flat: In real life, shifting of plates can cause seas to get trapped in say a circle, causeing all of the water to evaporate. In minecraft, they will not form during the world, but with the world like a normal biome. On them, you can find salt blocks covering majority of it, Ocean Monuments which have turned to sandstone over time, shipwrecks, skeletons of ancient beasts and dead coral reefs. The Salt Flat is mainly as described, flat, occasionally you can find islands in the middle of the salt flates, they can hav.e lots of cracks in the ground, like one block wide canyons, and grass and trees. Similar to normal islands but in the middle of a Salt Flat.
Seed Ferns: They are like trees but bigger, like medium jungle trees, they are not actual trees though, they are made of wood but the leaves are ferns, they grown in swamps, emerging from the low lying land or murky waters.
Sea Sponges: Not the sponge block, they are like coral. Like coral but with a different design, there could be barrel sponges, coral tubes and more. Some could spurt air while others cool green gasses.
Witches House: Like the Witch's Hut, but an entire house, sometimes even covered with tree roots.
Prickley Pear: A red fruit that grows on Cactus.
Oasis: A large pond in the middle of desserts. Surrounded by grass and lush vegetation.
Great Tree: A huge tree, huge, I mean huge! It is surrounded with a tropical biome, with small jungle trees, oak, birch, giant mushrooms and dark oak trees, a very lush biome it's in. It has huge vines, roots protruding from the ground at the tree and the biome around it. It's huge trunk and leaves ar covered in fungi, like huge tree fungus, pockets of glowstone as a part of the tree! A living ecosystem, it could even have a small village in it sometimes, or a small cave!
The Tree Fungi.
Floating Island: Floating Islands! Exatly like described, even a floating archipelago of islands. Extremley rare ones can even have a giant tree on them. You can find small ones, or really huge ones!
I'm really not trying to be rude here and call you dumb StickyPistonPig, I'm just saying that you don't know that a lot of his stuff has to do with terraforming. The Jungle part is about terraforming a Dessert by supplying it with lots of water and damp terrain, causing lush vegetation to grow. The ocean part is about evaportaing an ocean, causing plant life around it to die. Chopping down a forest he's saying wind would end up causing the place to erode. Erosian would end up turning the soil into sand. The water in the dessert part makes a lot of sense, there are lots of fossils in dessert, the water would help excavate them from the sand. Also Coral oes not live forever, in real life, coral is an animal, a simple one. He's saying the game should be more realistic. Again, not trying to be offensive.
Really lonely I actually really agree on this one.
And this is and part of the lack of movement in the world. Agreed.
Here i introduce the eco-system. Trees overtime die off, falling over on the ground as a line of logs This would fit well in the game with certain things. In natural forests yes. In biomes yes. But not if someone is doing a creative world build, like say a giant tree, and doesn't want the logs to rot or die.. The saplings will spread to a random but reasonable distances from the log and grow into new trees Yes, you are completley right on this one. I hate it when I chop down trees for wood on a survival world, and nothing ever grows back. Especially when I'm playing on my Survival Island world, I have to chop the trees on my island, and it looks ugly after.Agreed.. The log will decay over time and temporary increase the nutrients of the soil by a small fraction This process continues. What about plains biomes? Will the grass in the plains eventually die out due to lack of nutrients? Will grasss also play a role, despite being pureley decorative at the moment?
Of course to prevent things from getting out of hand, nutrients would be added. Invisible to the player, but will prevent vegetation from growing unreasonably thick, and this would be based off the biomes and the surrounding area. Anything you could use to measure nutrients? And what do you mean by invisible? It's not like Bacteria going through there life, which is invisible, over time you would see differences in plant growth, right? Other then that, I agree with this point, that would keep plant life at a reasonable state, as to much plants would cause trees to block out sunlight from the other plants, and take the nutrients, over all agree.
Create a artificial river through the desert with a input and output and What do you mean by Input and Output?overtime you would see great deal of vegetation grow around it. Heck, turn a desert into a jungle by playing your cards right. Now this part really fascinates me, I totally agree and like it a lot. I really like this aspect of Terraforming and do it a lot in Minecraft, and even other games.
Destroy a ocean and the surrounding landscape will to turn to desert, killing the vegetation. Maybe start forest fires because the area is too dry. This part is cool, maybe if you blocked off a part of an ocean, the blocked off part would dry up over time in to a Salt Flat. Leaving dead coral reefs behind, skeletons of fish, and even ocean monuments in it turning to sandstone over time. But what about rain, wouldn't evaporation of an entire ocean leave a lot of rain? Despite that I still see your point. I agree.
Chop down a whole forest and the landscape erodes away, potentially changing it to desert over time. Oh yeah, lack of trees would cause erosian to hit terrain more, maybe making more divots and caves aswell. I agree.
Weeds and grass spread over time, turning cobblestone into mossy cobble stone, etc. So maybe erosian could cobble stone in the wild? Agreed. I especially like how this would bring up new types of plants, like different weed (even the annoying spiky ones), and different grasses (like reeds and dead grass).
Place random bits of water in the desert? it will dry up over time, leaving behind blocks like salt and fossils. This would bring even more cool features to the game. Agreed. Maybe even excavation of fossils would be needed, and the new salts could increase the range of foods the game has.
As plants and wildlife spread, their is a small chance each time that they will change. The trees might have less leaves because it is dryier, vice versa. I like this idea, plants could even evolve over time to fit their surroundings. Like early about drying up an ocean, that would make the area around go into a dead zone, or extinction even, and plants would eventually evolve into new species meant to withstand lack of water for long periods?
Pigs could get bigger or smaller depending on the biome. Agreed, and it could even work to the players advantage as bigger livestock would provide bigger food bountys. And despite that, putting pigs in a jungle, and with enough pig breeding, could eventually turn them into Wild Boars, and pigs in a dessert could look more withered.
trees would adapt uniquely to their surrounding environment by ever so changing random events and the saplings would inherit those traits, mixing it with others DNA. Almost like how grass is the desert is different from the grass in my backyard. Just my own idea, this could be cool, damp areas with no grass but a good level of moisture could support different types of mosses, fungi, and algea, and eventually change the local willife, like maybe supporting frogs or salamanders.
That dirt pillar in the sky will slowly erode. Oh yeah, wind erosian could cause it to erode from the top down, maybe leaving a small dirt pile at the bottom showing that the pillar was once there.
Mojang would need to add 10's of 100's of new plant names to minecraft. Some of which would only be unlockable by natural biology and the locaion of the vegetation. I completley agree, they would ven have to add mutations of plants (not in a movie monster way, but a more realistic way), and new animals (mobs) aswell! They could even add in a PDA or journal to catalog new species as you find more.
Carol reefs would take years of minecraft time to regenerate. Maybe some could spawn at the start, but more rare, and over time they could fill the desolate areas of the ocean, and different corals would adapt to different areas, for example tube worms (although sadly it's not a coral) at lower levels living among Thermal Vents, and they could also add in a deeper ocean (which would also cause them to lower the bedrock level aswell wich would give improvment to underground ecosystems).
Cactus would live for a very long time, same with carol. This is actually really accurate to the real world, cactus can survive long drouts, and coral, despite being an animal, can live to hundreds if not thousands of years.
You can see what i am going at with how realistic the environment would be. This isn't everything, just a basic structure. You can take real life agriculture events and put them into minecraft. That is the idea of this update. This would also include the animals too. You can make a make a 6 page suggestion with all these things, I'd still read it because I really like this, I advise making a full thread about it.
I know this will break someones something, but it is for the better. We love updates yet they break a lot of redstone. Its because it is for the better. Loose something to make something. They really don't like better worlds then. Also, I doubt we are loosing anything, only gaining.
1.15 - New World Maybe it could be called "The Ecosystem Update!"? Just a suggestion, you might not agree with that name.
My writing on the quote is in Bold. I really like your ideas, you have a great understanding of Biology, Geology, and overall the natural world. Support!
I want to know if I can make a wishlist putting minor additions that would make minecraft a better game. It will be fairly long depending on the time I have. I'm asking you guys for permission because I'm not allowed to make wishlists and want your permission before I break a rule. Reply your answer.

P.S. You should really make it a full thread.

I love this idea so much! I've always wanted things like that to be added to the game.

I want to know if I can make a wishlist putting minor additions that would make minecraft a better game. It will be fairly long depending on the time I have. I'm asking you guys for permission because I'm not allowed to make wishlists and want your permission before I break a rule. Reply your answer.
