Do you have minecraft running in the background, because you can't edit the .jar with minecraft open. if it is not open then restart the computer, it's happened to me before.
Minecraft is popular for many reasons, and is still being updated constantly. Lets start with community. Now the community has a lot of fanboys, hatters , and a bit of trolls. Thought this is the case, Mojang updates us constantly, so we know where minecraft's going, and can suggest features and say what's wrong with the game and they can fix it. Mojang depends on the community, the community depends on Mojang. Now this game is indie because Notch worked on it himself for a bit, but he needed help game testers if you will, and until minecraft 1.0.0 we were game testers. The special few watched the game grow, but there was one thing Notch kept in mind, you have the freedom to do whatever you want. The community grew by the thousands and reached where it is today. Even Mojang itself grew by 5 people.
So couldn't the OP download the 1.4.5 snapshot? I've never had a reason to upgrade from the snapshot. It seems to work flawlessly.
probley, but I don't really understand the reason of no dsitrubiting it. I mena you still need a full .Minecraft folder to be able to play as far as I know. But then again I could be wrong.
The "old feel" you feel is the feeling of mastering minecraft. Try with some new things you haven't really messed with before. Download a few mods for the old feeling, but still have the nice little bug fixes ( or use Mcnoglista to downgrade) Maybe throw a texture pack in there, too. try some different types of servers too. That covers evrething I can think of off the top of my head of ways to improve the old minecraft feel.
Distributing jars is illegal? Minecraft Forums does it all the time...
They are not distrupiting it becasu that is a public .jar file for the snapshot that ahs been pubilcy relased by mojang. And you still need to download minecraft to use the .jar anyway, but i'm not one to question that at all.
When you log into minecraft it downloads the game itself and all of the files. If you have logged into the game before then you have either deleted your minecraft folder or anything in it, or you haven't logged into it on your own computer. Don't worry because you have bought the game and you won't have to pay again.
Maybe because a crepper came to steve on his 5th birthday and threw a dance party. then the world became pixelated because of iron golems. IT MAKES SENCE!!!!!
I think Anvils can change names, but not colour. Maybe you're thinking of some coloured tools from a mod? Redpower Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald (Green Sapphire since they added Emeralds to Vanilla?)
No I've seen this done on Herobrine's Mansion and Wrath of the fallen.
