i would hate for this not to be fixed by the time official rolls out.
if you think this needs to be fixed, please hit my + and comment
not trying to necro the thread so heres another idea as far as keeping farm animals on land:
natural migration.
no matter where animals spawn, they will tend to wander to a biome that is more of a natural habitat. cows would want to seek out praries, sheep (or you could call them rams) would seek out hills or mountain biomes, chickes to forests, etc...
It does but this doubles the amount of glass needed for underwater and similar projects.
hate to beat a dead horse, but we have desert biomes for your infinite glass supply needs, and the 'doubling' is only for the ceiling, which is not really doubling an entire project
i dont know why this isn't being looked at or discussed more. this is a major behavioral flaw in the ai of animals that needs to be addressed immediately.
i can't emphasize this enough: when i have to take my boat out to herd animals, something is very wrong.
im not saying they "can't" get out. what im saying is that when they wander out there, they generally do not get out, even after an in-game week. this is not normal "farm" animal behavior.
im trying to avoid posting tons of screenshots that support my case.
my house is on a peninsula next to an ocean biome and i have a huge farm from collecting most of the animals i could find in the main land.
from time to time i take my boat out and follow the coast. i see 'herds' of animals out in the water swimming around all the time. some with no land in sight.
i've let some animals out of their pens to watch their behavior. naturally, they randomly wander. i go about my business and after a game day or two look for them, finding that almost all of them have wandered out to sea. some get 'stuck' out there and stay in the same general area for days or even a week.
what im saying is that this is not natural animal behavior. cows go in water to cross a river, and not very frequently. ever see a pig swim? a chicken? maybe. but not to the extent that i see here.
when i have to take my boat out to find "farm" animals, something is wrong. thats my point.
something i've noticed since animals don't really despawn anymore is that animals find their way out into open water and 'get stuck' out there. what i mean by this is that moving speed is slower in water, since animals 'wander', all animals will eventually find themselves out to sea with no real way to get back to land; helplessly swimming around for days or weeks on end. searching for animals, for me in my map, requires a boat now instead of a proverbial 'walking stick'.
im not saying that it's not unrealistic to see an occasional animal out in the water, but after a good 24 hours (real time) in a map, the best place to find a cow is in the middle of the ocean, as far as i've noticed.
what im saying is that something needs to be fixed in the code that makes animals have a propensity to want to seek land after being in the water for a certain amount of time.
Making a minecraft.zip and renaming it to minecraft.jar didn't work. Oh well, guess I'll just have to wait for the official update. Any idea when that will be?
im sorry to hear that :sad.gif: maybe try the support forum. bet theres an idea there. if you find one that works, please post it here.
as for the date of the new update: eventually
(notch has been quoted saying this)
it has to be before the 18th, thats when the code freeze goes into effect, according to them.
Do you think the potions will affect you as far as health? Or will it give you get an attack boost to kill mobs?
Suggestions will be approved as well as discussion about the new potions for 1.9.
there are tons of threads that already contain info on what the potions will be ingame.
for suggestions, please post in the suggestions forums.
I just downloaded the 1.9pre3 client file found on the forum homepage. Instead of a .jar file, it looks like I got the contents of the 1.9pre3 .jar. How am I supposed to play 1.9 without a .jar? Am I doing something wrong, or not doing something that I'm supposed to?
so, i gather you got the .jar?
if you're using windows 7 - hit start and type in the search box %appdata%, then go to the folder 'roaming', then '.minecraft', then 'bin, and drop the .jar in the bin folder.
start the game as usual, ignoring the 1.8 news, and for god sakes do not force update.
update: my apologies, still upset from some really stupid posts this morning.
i just re-read very carefully what you posted.
that is strange that it all just threw up on you, instead of being neatly packed in a .jar.
not sure what to do at that point.
maybe make a minecraft.zip, dump everything into it, and rename it to minecraft.jar?
does this mean that those with 1.9 pre 4 are safe to start a new server and it will auto update when official releases? or are there too many changes with the official release that a server admin would have to delete the server in a month and start over?
Elder Scrolls franchise went sour after Morrowind. I'm surprised Bethesda is still holding on to it so tightly :tongue.gif:
never played oblivion i see. its like night and day compared to morrowcrap.
publicity is publicity. negative or positive. zenimax is genius for tapping into the minecraft market to freely promote skyrim to 3+ million people a month before release.
if they could sue blizzard, they'd do it. and now would be the time.

no, the real question is 'are the endermen going to grief their own pillars?'

well, there is THAT...

i dont make mob grinders.
actually the safest place is a floating house built out of glowstone, with torches on them, and lit jack-o-lanters for decoration.
i clicked your plus Eddz0r. 'mobile mobgrinder' sounds about right.
