... Maybe I should mention that I'm not an expert at Java. Not even close. I can kinda read it well enough to know what to copy and past and sometimes make modifications, but just knowing what function I'm supposed to call doesn't help if I don't know how. (Almost starting to think my original idea of making a crafting recipe would be easier.)
Okay, I have this idea for making beehives. It's been done, but pretty much only in mods that haven't been updated in over a year. Except maybe Forestry. Anyway, I figure you get honey comb from beehives and then honey and beeswax from the honeycomb. I sort of have it figured out up to the getting two items from one.
I know it can be done. With Better Wheat you craft wheat into grain and then when you exit the crafting screen straw drops. I just don't know how to code that. Better Wheat is obfuscated so while I can figure out what part of the code controls that feature I can't work out what processes it calls on to do it.
I do believe that the special API that Mo' Creatures needs in order to function properly (Forgot it's name, it has something to do with mob spawning, though) does indeed edit EntityLiving.class, although I could be wrong.
Custom Mob Spawner or GUI API? Because I looked inside both and I can't see anything that looks like an edited EntityLiving.class
Whether it adds stuff or not is irrelevant. Every update re names the classes. So if your mod edits, for example, xx.class, that class file might now be named zz.class. And what you need to is to find it and change your code.
So a mod that doesn't modify classes should be compatible no matter what the version, right?
Oh dear. OH DEAR. Does Mo' creatures edit the entityliving class?
I'm not sure, actually. Nothing goes directly into the jar file, so I don't know how it can.
Okay. This is weird. I had removed Doggy Talents earlier. I hadn't changed anything else, but I just tried adding it again to see if I could get any more info from the log file. Except now it works. Mo' Creatures is still installed. I have no explanation at all for what happened.
It looks like it's mostly bug fixes and some multi-player tweaking. I'm not entirely sure how mod compatibility works, but hopefully it doesn't mean that everything has to be updated. Again.
Minecraft always produces an error screen. Always. The problem is how long that screen is displayed. Next time, look in your .minecraft folder for a modloader.txt. It records everything that happens in the background so there is a full, feature-rich error report for the techies to look at.if an error does indeed occur.
Usually. If it did in this case then it was to fast for me to even see a flash and instead of producing a simple black screen it had a black screen with the inventory slots visible. Rather odd, wouldn't you say? Anyway, thanks for the tip about the text file. I make look over that to see if I understand anything.
A rather curious thing happened when I installed this with Mo' Creatures. The two mods seem to work all right separately (aside from Doggy Talents insisting on giving me a charm and command whistle when entering a new world, which seems odd) but together they either result in a blank screen with only the inventory slots showing or an error message.

It seems to affect several mods, including Better Dungeons and Chococraft. Odd, since I can install Doggy Talents with those mods without a problem. I can also install Mo' Creatures with those mods with no problem. It's only when those two are both installed that I get a problem. I don't know where the issue lies exactly, but I've already posted about this on Mo' Creatures. I thought it would be a good idea to bring this to your attention just in case.
You completely missed the point of that post. Well done. If you had seen the point you would have realized that that part was aimed at the "crash.plz fix" posts that people sometimes do without providing any info on what the problem might be.
You didn't specify that. What you did was make a blanket statement about people who try to install Mo' Creatures and run into a problem.
See how quickly it went when producing a crash/error report/modloader.txt? I'm not saying that because it's fun. But because without one all we can do is qualified guessing. I'd also suggest to take that to whoever does Doggy talents and DrZhark as maybe they are able to do something about that.
Yes. Except it didn't produce an error report until after I started doing some nonstandard things with the mods and how I loaded Minecraft. Including getting a different mod manager. Some people aren't that willing to experiment, especially if they aren't that familiar with how computer programs work. (And considering how often I've had to reinstall Minecraft from scratch because I managed to do something that made nothing work I can't say that I blame them.)
Gee. Thanks for the condescension. I also noticed that more than one mod tried to access that file, whatever it was. Still don't know what it is, what it does, or why it's missing. (Though it seems to have something to do with Doggy Talents, but only if Mo' Creatures is also installed.)
