Try the updated version, also, did it give a crashdump like most minecraft crashes, or did the java runtime crash?

Before when it crashed I didn't get an MC crash dump. (the only fix was to stop the java process in the task viewer)

The ground generates around the boat and I'm locked underground. The only fix is to exit/re-log in.
/home and /tp don't stop the spazzage.

Anything faster has a tendency to crash your client.
Do you mean locking up or an actual crash? If it's locking up, I'm aware and I thought I fixed that bug.

Not just torches: everything
The game's engine is based on the fact that everything is 1x1. (this includes doors, fences, and half-blocks --image/interaction tricks)
Half blocks aren't really 1/2 block tall. They're full blocks with half transparency. The reason you can walk on them is because Notch coded the character's interaction with them to have a -.5 z-axis offset.
The only way to fulfill your request would be to create/add a new object. :sad.gif:
The new object would be a half-step with torch lighting attributes and a torch's image. If a player were to place a torch, the half step would then be replaced by said new object. (much the same as the transition from half-step to full step)
I'm pretty sure that adding new objects is a major pain though. ;o
To date, I think one person has succeeded. (red-wire sensor)

The best that someone could do is to allow free floating torches to be deployed above half-blocks.
I took the basic char image and lightened the skin and hair. Changed the eye color and made the pants look more like jeans.
I gave him a tidier-looking shirt with a logo and a belt and buckle. Also white sneakers with a red stripe.
Nurio's 64x64 splotchcraft texture pack is my ideal. ;o
Sharp textures yet still simple.
It embraces the pixel/the fact that MC is a low res game rather than trying to make the textures look like they have more pixels than they do.

The current speed works great if the user is paying attention. (not going full speed ahead 100% of the time)
I don't the the majority of the people on my server can be trusted with the current full-speed capability though. ;D

Install it using the HD texture pack fix.
Otherwise you'll have to edit a few CLASS files to allocate more memory to textures.
A PNG is a PNG. There's nothing special about this one that will crash MC.
