so, my friend has an SMP server, and I've been trying to connect. however, it keeps giving me the message
"connection timed out: connect".
i've tried connecting via the server list, and also via direct connect. this is a 1.8 server, he has other people who can connect without any trouble, and i can connect to other servers. any ideas on what's wrong?
well, crap. as great as this is, it only seems to work when the input is a button like this, which greatly reduces its effectiveness. i tried setting it up with an inverse pulse generator, and no dice.
I do.
Wanna start on a new map, but i'm gonna wait for 1.8.
Already found a seed that i like.
me, too. it's 'plants vs zombies' without the apostrophes. it's got some really cool overhangs and the spawn is in the middle of a massive mountain range, but i don't think it's an absolute spawn.
i'm not saying that i can't load up my new worlds. i'm only saying that i've explored my old ones very heavily, so it will be annoying and inconvenient to get to new areas that i haven't explored yet to get to new content. besides, i like the idea of starting fresh on the adventure update, with no stack of diamonds or massive farm as a crutch. just my wits vs whatever notch wants to throw at me.
since 1.8 is going to be such a huge update, and it's probably going to make extremely large improvements, i've decided to pretty much stop playing minecraft until it comes out. the reason is that i'm going to have to make a new world when 1.8 goes live, and i don't want to waste effort on worlds that i may never bother to load up again. is anyone else planning something like this?
rails popping off without a reason is a bit of a problem with pistons. the rules for when they stay and when they pop off seem pretty arbitrary. however, in your case, the reason is that you aren't moving the rail block itself. you're only moving the block that the rail is placed on top of. when you move the block, the rail won't move with it. instead, it just pops off.
the timing on this sort of thing is pretty tough to get right. i managed to make it work by having a single piston working 1 tick ahead of the other three. check out my thread on JK flip-flops, because this setup is the central mechanism.

the issue of multiple nested AND gates is that they're pretty slow. multiple input AND gates are much faster.
