I made my first adventure map (in my sig) not to long ago
My tips for the city would be to give it some significances, test everything really well (you may even try to get people to test it), dont overwhelm the player, make the path well and maybe obvious. My map is small but a lot of people still get lost.

maybe a texture pack with some paintings as arrows perhaps? just incase they are all like

Looks real fun I would definitly play

No were near that stage yet :tongue.gif: But thanks!

This is something I think most map players would like, well at least me :tongue.gif:.

    Large cities/towers full of platforming/parkour

Some people may play adventure maps to get away from parkour, if you include it dont make it a major part of your map. Also remember if you make an area that you think is big, make it bigger. It may take time to make a city but a player may fly right through it.
    Thick plot line
Always a good thing to have, also make it easy for players to view the story I.E. Text files
    "Media", Perhaps sounds/voice overs/cutscenes
This may be hard to do but you can try using Adventure craft.
Multiple continents to explore and discover the plotline
If you are saying multiple paths then yes, that is what I am doing in my map that I am developing right now. It gives the map a lot of replay value

Hope this helped, tell me if you need any other assistance. :smile.gif:
    Also, really impressive starting city!

Thanks for the tips! 1st adventure map to be honest, however, bring it on large projects! (no stranger to building though!)
Indeed, I do plan to have multiple paths, however tying it in to a main story line could be slightly difficult, and I plan for the city to be somewhat that of a maze, high alleyway endings, blocked paths (roof top jumping?) and various other basic elements of holy... this city is actually quite big!

Hey guys, I'm just wondering if long (3-4+) hours game time maps are played, or even sought after, as currently I plan an adventure of a life time for the minecraft player! (already have a major city's shell half done) 10+ hours work have gone into it so far and I'm just wondering if people would play these sort of maps.

Incase you don't understand, the maps I mean feature

    • Large cities/towers full of platforming/parkour
    • Thick plot line
    • "Media", Perhaps sounds/voice overs/cutscenes
    • Multiple continents to explore and discover the plotline
So, I'm wondering, would any of you guys actually play this sort of a map?

    The Starting City;

(not the most recent screenshot, and not in the correct setting, for example the bridge will be in water, and a fair amout of the bottom of the "wall" will also be in that water)
    Thanks, Huntedstorm

Is this in the legitimate game style, or creative game style?

if creative, I might live in this tower I made for an adventure map I'm making...

Really, it depends on available resources, usually wood, however, smooth stone has something about it I like, I also have this hunch that glowstone has "magical" properties, other than giving out light, so I often use that in buildings, makes "realistic" floating houses/islands/islands with houses, for the fact that the glowstone on it is supporting the build.

its a very simple texture pack great for starting out but try starting on some more detailed stuff like using some noise on the wooden planks

Wooden planks do have noise however, thanks for pointing it out! MOAR noise to the wooden planks!
And for sure am I trying to get a little more detail into everything, without ruining the texture packs, simple but with detail and prettyness and stuff :biggrin.gif:

I think that it looks great ^.^

Thanks, always nice to get a good complement

    Quote from rp2000

It's very good, but i think the current cobble texture would be better as stone brick.

thanks for that, I'll change it now, and add cracked/mossy variant

Looking forward to the full release! ^.^

Heh, that'll be about 1-2 weeks off before I get a beta release out!

Overall I'm going to presume you guys like it ( !)

Updates: done Mossy Brick, Tried ANOTHER grass tiling and added more noise to wooden planks, began on cobble stone

Planks, Glass, Sand (and bad grass, still :\)

Note: house I built on the server in my signature, no one is online now-a days sadly :sad.gif:

    A brand new texture pack!
After a few hours work in photoshop I've managed to complete enough work on the terrain.png file in order to have something to show for my work.
This texture pack will aim at adding smooth blending, "Natural" feelings to your minecraft realms with no blocks standing out and giving you a major case of eye-hurt!

Currently the blending on the grass (mainly top) isn't going very well :\ however the sand/dirt is looking rather nice and I've fallen in love with the way the stone looks (my opinion) I'd love to hear what YOU think of my current work (I know its not too much but I need some opinions on what people who might actually use it want such a texture pack to look like!)

    Looking for critique on the following materials;
    - Stone
    - Dirt
    - Ores
    - Sand

    Need to fix up
    - Grass

    Next to do
    - Cobblestone
    - Logs
    - Glowstone
    - Leaves
    - Pumpkins
    - Doors
    - Torches
    - Rails
    - Bedrock

    *Pictures*

Diamond, Redstone, Gold, Iron, Coal + Stone (and horrible grass)

    Dirt, Sand, Stone

Planks, Glass, Sand (and more bad grass, it annoys me  )

Thanks guys! and once again, would love opinions
