I wouldn't want anything too mod-like, it should still fit the aesthetic of the game. And, it shouldn't overwhelm the other features of the game, so not 100 wand/staff types, and 6 sword types.

But yeah, I think this is an area that the game could expand upon and give players some more options gameplay wise.

If you play on xbox why you are posting in the Minecraft: Java Edition -> Suggestions channel? :o

Because it's called Minecraft, the main purpose has always been to mine for resources, craft stuff to fight monsters and farm just enough food to carry on. That's why you can milk cows with one click, and probably if they really want to add alcoholic beverages, you'll probably able to plant grapes the way two-block tall flowers are planted, harvest them like you do with berry bushes and craft the wine by combining one or more grapes with an empty glass bottle. That's just as complicated as things are in current Minecraft.

I post and discuss here, though I play Bedrock, because I felt that Java is considered to have more serious and veteran players.

As for your description of how to make wine, it sounds perfect, just that they'd probably change the name to grape juice for that E rating.

I don't think the addition of just alcoholic beverages would make the game go straight up to M, putting it at the same rating as games such as GTA, but it would certainly go up to at least PG.

It means it wouldn't be considered child friendly, so it could be moved up in it's age rating by the ESRB. That means less accessibility, and thus less sales.

So no, they won't add alcoholic beverages. But, it could just be grape juice.

Ha, I didn't really think this was intended to cause difficulty, I mean, I'm talking a difference of 50 blocks at the most (though that is admittedly a lot and should be closer to 20).

And, it's manual considering you'd be physically applying something to connect two different portals. But, I regress.

Thanks, but I'm talking more like an item is used to select portal A, and is then used to select portal B, and then they are linked.

This way the location of corresponding portals isnt as fixed, but can be decided by the player, within limits.

In My Opinion... When I purchased this game (2011) the monsters were little more than a distraction to mining! I firmly believe the creator designed it like that.

The creator you speak of, Notch, sold the license for $2.5 billion, and in doing so, forfeited his vision of the game. They're taking it in new directions.

Mining can only go so far. You have to have a reason to keep mining. If you don't want combat, there is peaceful mode, or easy for if you still want the occasional enemy.

(I admit I sound rude here, but I don't intend to offend.)

But this is flawed reasoning they are making then, because technically by this we could say slabs themselves aren't "blocky" enough.

And not everything in the game is a cube, even when the game first came out minecart rails, the minecarts themselves, are not cubes or squares. And when you get into the discussion about rails, they can be made into ramps or slopes, which already broke the no block rule.

All Mojang is doing at this point is finding half baked justifications for their refusal to add more content to the game, and instead pass the responsibility onto the modding community to find a solution, which in my honest opinion is just lazy and holds the game back.

I get what you mean, but I think that, as inconsistent as it can be, they are trying to preserve the current aesthetic of the game.

I guess a better way to describe it is if you play or see someone play with certain mods. Some of them feel minecraft-y, and some of them just don't.

The latter is probably how they felt. Some dev out there might have actually made sideways slabs in a dev test, and when they showed it to the team, some just felt it was somehow wrong, and so they just deleted it. This thought is humorous in some odd, almost tragic, way.

It would be easier if there was a way to actually link up portals manually.

Though, I would worry this could lead to 4 portals allowing players to walk 3 or 4 blocks, but travel potential thousands of blocks.

There could be a limit put in place to prevent this, such as the second portal has to be within 50 blocks of the first portal in the other dimension.

Pistons that could move large amounts of blocks stuck together would be nice, and would definitely work for a drawbridge build that pulls and pushes horizontally over a pit, be it over lava, water, or even a deep hole.

It sounds good, but I'm wondering how the piston would move multiple blocks like that. I guess it could just move all blocks in a certain area, but this would be very limiting.

I don't know about doors being only 4 blocks tall though, but if tall doors are to be added at all they do need to be designed with ambitious builds in mind

I feel like if the doors where to be huge, as in multiple blocks wide, it wouldn't fit with the current aesthetic as no other structure is that large and one continuous block.

Also, if this giant door opened without some animation, and swung open like the current doors do, it would just look clunky. Imagine this multiple block wide and tall door just instantly slamming open and shut.

Because Mojang would want to avoid religious connotation, a different name than 'vampire' could be used to make them more unique to the game, and, for those rather picky few, be more child friendly. And, 'holy water' would definitely have to just be a splash healing potion.

As for garlic, it makes sense, but it would be kind of odd for it to be added considering the only other foods are very common foods that are often eaten as they are, or used as the majority of a dish. With adding garlic, I'd just be wondering where the onion, chives, oregeno, and peppers are.

But, as a replacement, it could be something that symbolizes life to counter them being undead. Oddly, emeralds came to mind, maybe reflecting how they wish to prey on villagers, but are repelled by the emeralds, keeping them at bay. This could be good for in a fight, you would have to stop attacking to repel it, but would leave you vulnerable to other enemies.

I was imaging the Lich as the undead version of the Evoker, with an overhaul of the undead making them more like that various illager types. This would be nice, as long as it isnt too extensive.

For the Lich sword though, I don't see a wizard being the type to use a sword, especially not one that is a rotting, undead corpse. A staff would be more fitting, but that is a whole other suggestion.

Just because it doesn't benefit you doesn't mean it doesn't benefit anyone else.

and there are more people who design large builds than you seem to realize, and I highly doubt it is a rarity as you are implying.

Sure the majority of players may not do large builds, but 99.9%? what evidence do you have to back this claim? even so.

I would say that nearly every player at some point tries to build some large, near castle size structure at some point.

I know it isn't exactly a good measure, but just about every Minecraft youtuber has a video of something similar with thousands of views. I'm not saying this is proof that everyone does it, I'm just saying that this is a result of how popular building such things are.

And even if not, players would at least have new blocks available to find other uses for it.

Now, for the suggestions themselves, I don't like the idea of doors being ridiculously big, but 3-4 blocks would be cool while still fitting in the game's aesthetic. As for bridges, they definitely should require physically building them, so the suggestion for extra long pistons might work.

I don't think how cost-ineffective current building would be is a reason to resist adding something that could add so much to the creative potential of the game.

It doesn't make plank blocks obsolete like some more effective tool, it just means each block has its place and use.

I have a feeling, a worry one might say, that the devs tried out sideways slabs and just felt that it wasn't "blocky" enough. That it just didn't feel minecraft enough.

But, back to the subject of wood walls, they would still have potential because they couldn't be used quite in the same way as sideways slabs. If used for an exterior wall, they would allow the floor to show through to the outside. This would be cool to add depth to a suspended hut or something, but look weird in other builds.

Just an FYI, I vaguely remember Dinnerbone mentioning on Twitter that walls were for stone and fences were for wood or that was what they were going for. Not sure if this means this suggestion can happen at all or not.

This must have been decided after making nether brick fences then. But, now that walls are seamless, maybe they'll consider it.
