Just have your friend run the server if your parents won't let you port forward the router. If your parents router doesn't use WPA encryption or better than they have no clue about anything.

I can answer the first part of your question, but for the second part I give my members op status so they can go in and out of survival as they please. I chose to white-list, now don't jump to conclusions I'll explain why. I would so much rather prefer it to not be white-listed, but after having griefer after griefer join last night there is no way to get around it. They posted up my IP on a forum called hackforums, Google this 'hackforums goonies1632', I was attacked ferociously. Same guy multiple IP, he even said he had over 150 accounts. Which after banning him multiple times I started to believe him. It seemed almost like a semi scripted griefing bot, it forced me to white-list.

I'm not talking lava, water, vines, tnt abuse... I am talking 10x10x10 block chunk hack at the speed of light. That hack can do insane amounts of destruction in seconds. So what I do is white-list slowly, backup every chance I get (automatic 15 minute backups with a linux script that I found on this forum section), and if I have to pick out a griefer amongst our small group it won't be very often. Start slow, and let it grow. :tongue.gif:

It was the way I thought of doing it really late in the morning. Of course I cheated and used Google to find a script that could show if a process is running or not. And they did it that way. :tongue.gif: You my friend are a guru I bow to your knowledge. :smile.gif: Thank you so much.

I created another script minecraft_server_backup.sh

chmod 755 minecraft_server_back.sh

Then did,

crontab -e

Added this line to it.

*/15 * * * * /home/minecraft/minecraft_server/minecraft_server_backup.sh

Now I have a backup every 15 minutes.

Please note that I have the variable set to 4 because I am running 2 servers one is survival the other is creative.
