I don't understand; if Notch can program biome shading for all the other biomes, why hasn't a modder gotten around to programming a workaround for swamp shading?

Alpha and Beta players get the full release for free.
Alpha and Beta players get all updates for free.
Only Alpha players get all future DLC for free. DLC is optional, paid-for content that is not vital to the game; it may be the ability to design your own cape or access to a few extra decorative blocks that serve no actual function.

You're just mad because you don't get to be a hipster. You see, the purchases Notch got during alpha were vital. They made him capable of developing Mojang into the company it is today (instead of his one-man code-shop) and the explosive outburst of purchases was enough to lock down Mojang's success, at least until release. Had it not been for the large amount of money made during alpha, it's very possible that the cost of the Bethesda suit could have been a massive blow to Notch and Mojang's ability to produce content.

By the time Beta came around, Notch had enough money to survive until release.

Giving the early birds that made everything possible free DLC is the exact opposite of greed, and you need to stop complaining that the gesture of kindness does not extend to you.

EDIT: And for the sake of the people who wish to call me out and tell me I'm 100% wrong...

The red dot is (approximately) when Alpha became Beta.

So please, stop raging. Also, related:

    posted a message on Religion
I'll begin with a fun quote I find fitting.

Science isn't about why, it's about why not!

    - Cave Johnson, Portal 2

I am an atheist that has no qualms with religion or the believers of religion. I believe theories like the Big Bang to be true, and think that Christians have no reason to claim they are false. Using the Big Bang and Christianity as my example...

The major premise of the Big Bang theory is that the universe was once in an extremely hot and dense state that expanded rapidly (a "Big Bang").

    - Wkipedia - The Big Bang

Nothing in that theory states that God does not exist. While it may contradict the Biblical theory of the universe's formation, that isn't to say that their core belief is wrong.

There are many things said in the Bible that are considered absolutely terrible things today. I'm sure most people would consider slavery wrong, but the Bible doesn't say not to keep slaves; it has rules on how to conduct slavery properly.
How about atomic theory? We know for a fact that the periodic table of the elements is accurate, and that the world is indeed made up of atoms and energy, but long ago the Christian belief was in four elements; Air, Earth, Fire, and Water.

Similarly, the Big Bang and Christianity can coexist if the Biblical theory on the creation of the universe is metaphorical or incorrect; why could God have not had his own hand in the creation of the universe through the Big Bang?

Science does not say God does not exist, simply because science has neither proved nor disproved his existence. Any scientist who says God does not exist is absolutely retarded, he hasn't gone out and conducted the experiments to show he does or doesn't; to deny the scientific process on a topic as sensitive as religion as a scientist is absolutely stupid.

Similarly, religions do not say that science is evil. No religion (as far as I know of) says that you can't theorize and experiment with the world to figure out how it works. That is all science is; it's the 'why' and the 'how'. Therefore, it's stupid to denounce science.

The two are not enemies, and it's 2011. About ****ing time the world realizes it and lets the two sides put aside their differences and work together for the betterment of the world. Screw the cocky-ass scientists who deny the existence of a god without putting any work behind it, and screw the cocky-ass religious folk who preach and push it on people who don't want anything to do with it. I'm an atheist and I don't make baseless assaults on religion; I am friends with many religious people, and all of them are the kind who respect my atheism and simply abstain from pushing their religion on to me.

posted a message on Minecraft is grey and brown
There are biome colors. I hope you're not aiming at getting rainbow grass and trees, but we get birch forests, cold-region pine forests, and regular forests all with different coloration to their leaves. Grass grown in a desert is yellowish brown, and in a cold region has a bluish-green hue. In swamps it's a murky, black green. Water color now changes in biomes too; swamp water looks much darker and murkier than regular water. The wild grasses change depending on biome.

As for the subterranean aspects of the game, it should pretty much all look the same down there. For a game that has only one kind of geological stone (unless you count diamonds and sand/sandstone as stones), you can't expect much subterranean variety, and rock color far below the ground isn't going to change because you're underneath a forest instead of a desert.

We have redstone, lapis lazuli, wool dyes, roses, yellow flowers that I regard as tulips, and many other building materials of varying color. If the colors of nature don't satisfy you, why not paint a better picture, so to speak?

posted a message on [1.7.3] Aether Collaboration Mod - V1.02 - NEW MOBS, FIXES, ITEMS AND FEATURES!
I know that the developers are probably taking a much needed respite, but there are certain things that need to be fixed, and once they are, their break can go as long as necessary.

    1. Those poison plants are incredibly rare.
    2. Zephyrs are overly common.
    3. Only white cloud appears.
    4. Tamed Moas disappear.
    5. Enchanting golden darts does not work.
    6. People do not get or lose their book.
    7. Aerwhales are not always overly common, but there have been times where I look out to a space without much land and see massive swarms of whales.

There are other glitches, but these are ones I see people complain about the most.
