posted a message on Enchatning: Rolling for different enchants.
    Hey all,

While watching a stream, I noticed that the streamer was getting really unlucky enchants on his gear. Stuff like Blast Protection IV (which you don't really need if you know how to fight creepers, ghasts etc.) and weak tool enchants.

That started me thinking, what if there was a system in place that allowed players to 'roll' for enchants, but here's the catch, you have to 'pay' for these rolls with an item, such as diamonds, lapis etc., or even things like ghast tears, etc.

I feel as though this could work, as these items are fairly rare and it would mean that players could get the enchants they need/want, but without making it too easy.

As I was typing, another idea popped into my head, but this one is more far-fetched. Say for example you think your enchanting table is cursed because you're getting crappy enchants, how about taking it to the local village wizard to get it reset? For example, you want an enchanted diamond pickaxe with Efficiency III as the main enchant, but you're getting silk touch, which you don't want. We all know that enchant's going to be there until you eventually give in and take it, but how about going to the village wizard and paying emeralds so he can reset (basically randomising the enchants you get, meaning you'll get new ones) so you have a better chance at getting the enchant you want.

I think these would add more to the game, as lapis is fairly rare and it adds yet another use for it, or using emeralds to reset the table, which are even rarer.

    Give me your thoughts.

What has your experience been on Minecraft: Since early 2010, I've been playing this game since Alpha. I owned my own server for about a year and a half.

Why do you want to join this server?: To play on a Whitelisted vanilla server, free from griefers and trolls. To build a base and potentially become the strongest and richest person on the server, and to fight other players (respectfully, of course).

Have you read & agree on the Rules?: Sure have!

P.S. gearsofwar3 is an old Minecraft account that I can't update because I got the account free through one of Mojang's giveaways when Beta was released (it was a special event, they were giving away free accounts) and I no longer own the email account that the Minecraft account uses, which means I can't find proof of purchase to migrate this account and update all the info. I use this account as my forum account, though.

You have it backwards - why should Minecraft (Mine and craft - NOT "Minebuild" or any other such name that suggests building is the main focus of the game) be all about building some useless (in Survival) pretty houses? It is a sandbox game where you can do ANYTHING you want (except, of course, hacking and griefing, which gets you imprisoned if you do that in real life), which is why over 50 million copies have sold and it will likely eventually become the most sold video game on the planet (seriously, I doubt those other games will last as long).

In fact, did you know that the game was first called "Cave game", a game about, well, what I mostly do when I play?

Also, see this post (more here) by a moderator who posts a lot of good detailed arguments about why Minecraft is/isn't/shouldn't be something (in this case, that there is no "One True Way" to play the game).

    Do you understand humour?

    Quote from cozakillz»

if you read what i said above you'd notice that mojang/microsoft would still get 100% of sales
the game would be on steam as free to play, so people can play single player for free (like most people who only play SP do)
but if you wish to play online you'd have to buy a account from minecraft.net, meaning that the profit for that would go to mojang/microsoft
and people who already own the game would be able to login to the steam version straight away or just not even bother with the steam version :P
it could make things like modding 100 times easier thanks to things like the steam workshop :P and some people are interested in seeing how much time they have wasted on a game
god people on these forums needa learn how to read

Woah, woah, woah. I was giving my opinion, and you're telling I need to read? Sir, please. Take a look at my English skills, then have a look at yours. Don't be a smart-***.

posted a message on Looking For: Whitelisted vanilla server with an active community.
    Hey all,

I'm looking for a whitelisted vanilla server to spend some time on to play with other people. It'd be great if the server was active, and the community is nice.

By vanilla, I kinda mean SVanilla, to make room for anti-griefing plugins and all that, but yes, a 100% vanilla server would be better.

If there's a questionnaire or something similar to fill out, message it to me or post it below.

    Thanks all,

Uh oh, here come the "Minecraft servers are dead" posts.

No, they're not dying and they never will? Why? Because Minecraft is played across the world in pretty much every country. Yes, they probably play it in North Korea. Why won't it ever die? Because they recently reached 18mil, 1mil higher than their last milestone of 17mil, which means at least 1mil players are playing this game a week.

Nope, they don't need too. They recently just reached 18mil sales, which says something about the success of the game. Not only is Steam used as a marketplace, it's also use as a 'platform' to boost sales, which Mojang obviously doesn't need at this point in time.

It is unlikely the game will go to Steam.

But this machine could be constructed using Redstone. How can you say that machines don't belong in Minecraft? Could you magically teleport to the Mojang office and read the developer's minds so you could know how Minecraft was meant to be?
I hate it when people say that "Minecraft was not meant to...".
It doesn't need to be a machine though. I just said it was an interesting idea, constructing something else than a portal to enter a dimension.

Minecraft was not meant to be many things, things which have been implemented. You can hate me all you want, but Minecraft wasn't designed around the complex machines that you see today like calculators, word processors and so on. It just wasn't designed for that.

Don't get me wrong, I admire the people that think these things up, but Minecraft is a sandbox game, not a computer simulator. I'm being a bit of a hypocrite there, but I hope you can see where I'm coming from.

Plus, I doubt a machine that could warp you into outer space could be even built with redstone, it's simply not logical. I don't need to teleport to Mojang's head office to know this, either.

Getting a little off topic now, machines such as mob farms were never meant to be because it's a way of abusing the game, you're abusing in-game mechanics to receive experience and items without little to no effort at all. That's why the new enchanting system was introduced to involve lapis. Although it didn't work as well at stopping farms, it did halt experience gain a little bit by introducing lapis to the mix. I can't quote the person (and you neither quote me either) but someone had said that Jeb stated that experience farms weren't supposed to happen.

I'll give you my stance on this now, I feel as though redstone circuits are one of the best things Minecraft has going for it now, but I don't believe machines should have a place in Vanilla Minecraft.
