I'd like to apologize again, on behalf of the staff, for Zekermei's post.
It has been said already, but to all applicants and current members of the community, that post in no way reflects the opinions of any of our staff. It was inappropriate.
So keep new applications coming in! The opening of the server is coming soon!

    Character Information

    Name: Cicero DeHaine

    Age: 29

    Class: Alchemist

Citizen of the Chancellory or a member of the Medori?: Citizen of the Chancellory

Physical description: Cicero is 5’10, and an albino. He is slightly thinner than the average person of his height. His hair is a little longer than normal length, and he usually wears a purple cloak. He has “lazy eye” (amblyopia) in his left eye, and his general expression normally lacks emotion.

    Screen capture of your skin:

Biography (Minimum 400 words. Cannot include loved ones being killed, kidnapped, tortured, or the like, unless you can do it in a non-cliche manner.):

Cicero DeHaine was born in the countryside, in a small shack. His father, Jacob, was a priest, and his mother, Annaleigh, was a very skilled alchemist who studied in the academy before marrying. Jacob and Annaleigh’s parenthood was not planned, so the discovery of Annaleigh’s pregnancy came as a nasty shock to them. Discovering that their child was small and sickly (and not to mention unusual-looking, being an albino), did little to improve their parental sentiments.

It just so happened that a small rift opened a few days after Cicero was born, and so some of the first images he saw in the world were images of the fiery vortex. The rift (and Cicero’s frailness) made Jacob and Annaleigh decide to move into the capital so that they’d have better access to care for their child. Cicero’s father became a priest of the church while his mother set up an alchemist’s shop. Cicero often watched his mother brew her potions, becoming fascinated with alchemy. Over the first seven or so years of his life, he also developed an obsession with fire, intrigued by it’s consuming and all-powerful nature. His parents slowly grew closer and closer to seeing him as just another normal human being, identifying him as their child as opposed to just an Albino. He grew up as a rather lonely child, but at least his parents accepted him.

At the age of fifteen, that began to change. A few months after Cicero’s 15th birthday, he began to show signs of schizophrenia. He began to notice that sometimes, lights would be too bright and sounds too loud. Other times, he would feel a simple feeling of detachment with his life. He would also be very hypersensitive to criticism, and began to experience moods wings. The extreme symptoms began when Cicero’s mother began to teach him alchemy. From time to time, he would experience the erratic and unusual fear that people could read his mind and thoughts. All it took was a small glance, and suddenly, he would wonder if his privacy was being breached. One day, during an alchemy lesson, Cicero's mother was running through the different types of base potions when suddenly he had one of his irrational fears. Something told Cicero to grab a harmful potion from his mother’s “off-limits” shelf. When his mother told him to put the potion down, he shouted back that she was reading his thoughts and that she should stop. Extremely confused, his mother tried to reason with him, but something kept telling him to hold onto the potion. It was then that he realized that it was a voice speaking to him, as opposed to just himself. The voice seemed nice. The voice seemed like it knew what it was talking about. The voice said to throw the potion, and Cicero did.

His mother was badly scarred and sent to an infirmary. Jacob, furious, threw Cicero out of the house after Cicero tried to explain the voices to him, calling him a madman and telling him never to come back. Cicero moved into the streets, alone, with only the voices in his head to talk to. The following ten years of Cicero’s life would prove to be difficult. He would always look for work, and sometimes find it, but eventually, his schizophrenia would catch up to him and cause him to lose everything that he’d gained. He didn’t understand why the voices were a problem--nobody else wanted to talk to him and be his friend but them. Whenever he needed advice, they were there for him. Although those ten years were years of failure in the area of finding and keeping a job, Cicero did slowly begin to improve in the area of alchemy. Sometimes, the voices in his head (which slowly grew to be two distinct voices and personalities, one male and the other female), would persuade him to attempt to steal a book or two from a library. Other times, he would spend his money on books instead of food. Through many methods, he built up an understandings of the basics of alchemy.

When Cicero was twenty five, after much struggle, he began to reach out to other people, after being extremely introverted for a long while. He would force himself to stay in taverns and inns and attempt to flirt with girls or simply make new friends. Although it was an extremely slow process, over the next four years he grew to become more and more social and less reliant on the voices. Sometimes, he would even ignore them. Without a doubt, they were still a large part of his life, but he was making steps in the right direction. When Cicero was twenty nine, news of the academy’s reopening spread throughout the capital. He decided to take his chances at becoming an alchemy student there, already having a foundation to build upon. He knew that his disorders might make it harder for him, but nevertheless, he was determined to try.

What is your character’s main goal? (Motivation): Cicero does not have many goals, but one of them is to simply be accepted by society, and to be seen for who he is as opposed to just the labels put on him (albino, mentally ill, etc.). He also has ambitions in the realm of alchemy, hoping to become a great potion master because he believes that this will cause people to respect him.

Strengths (Both physical and personality): Cicero is resourceful, and normally thinks ahead. He is also fairly fast and calculating. When he wants to/can be, he can be charming.

Weaknesses (Both physical and personality. Not knowing how to do something that is outside of your class is not a weakness. IE not knowing how to use bows and magic, if you are a swordsman.): Being a schizophrenic brings many weaknesses to Cicero. The symptoms from these two disorders are seemingly random. From time to time, he hears voices and hallucinates. Over time, he has come to have a sort of dependency on these voices, who normally come to him when he is lonely. He also has trouble speaking and organizing thoughts at times. He cares about how others view him, and so he is extra sensitive to criticism. He is not the strongest person either. He has also shown signs of paranoia, but that condition is still progressing. Being an albino, the sunlight tends to bother his skin if he is out for too long, and his eyesight is nowhere near perfect.

Does your character have any connections to currently-existing characters or characters yet to be accepted? If so, which? (See “Character Linking Aid”. Please post a link to the topic.):
    Nope.

In-Character-Responses (ICRs. For each scenario, write at least a paragraph describing entirely in-character how your character would respond to the situation.Your ICRs will be used to see how well you can RP. Please post them as if in IC chat. An example can be found after this form.)

Walking down the streets of the Capitol, you encounter a pair of heavily armed and armoured men harassing a young girl.

Cicero is in one of his unstable states at the moment, and is interacting with the voices in his head. He takes a few steps back from the scene, fear rising within him. He begins to murmur to himself:
“I should go help the girl, shouldn’t I?” He waits for one of his voices to help him. There is no response.
“Hello?” he asks quietly, surprised that the voices have suddenly stopped. “I need help! What do I do? Do I help the girl? Or not?” There is still a silence. Cicero kicks the sidewalk. “Don’t leave me! Where are you?” When there is still no response, he cries out:
“Help me!” The two men turn to him and away from the girl momentarily. When Cicero sees that he’s been noticed, the turns and sprints away as quickly as he can, forgetting about the girl in an instant.

A man approaches you with a proposition - Go to Bloodstone and retrieve something for him, and you will be well rewarded.

Cicero frowns after being asked the question. “I don’t know, what do you think?”
The man glances at him oddly. “What was that?”
“I wasn’t talking to you.” You shouldn’t, a voice in Cicero’s mind says.
The man raises an eyebrow. “All right...”
“No, I’m not going to go to Bloodstone.”

You pass an old man lying on the side of the street, begging for food.

Cicero ignores the man, walking past them. He’s not your responsibility, he thinks to himself. The voices agree.

In a tavern, a slightly inebriated fellow insults your mother.

Cicero takes another swig of his drink and then turns to the man, his red eyes narrowing.
“That wasn’t nice. Take it back. TAKE IT BACK.” Cicero then stands up in his chair and in a mad rage, jumps at the man. Why he took so much offense to the man’s comment, even he cannot explain, but the voices cheered him on, so it must have been the right choice.
    ***
Cicero wakes up an indefinite time later, covered in bruises and just outside the tavern.

You take a liking to a beautiful necklace a passing woman wears.

Cicero glances at the necklace for a moment. He is in a normal state right now, and in a rather good mood, so he attempts to flirt with the woman, starting with: “Hello, nice necklace you’ve got there...”

Do you have any questions about the server or our lore?
    Nein.

Note: My character hasn't diagnosed his conditions, so he really doesn't understand why he is the way he is. I just thought that I'd clear that up: I don't believe that schizophrenia is a known illness at this point.

    Character Information

    Name: Araesis Arundiel

    Age: 24

    Class: Craftsman

Physical description: Araesis is slightly above average height (5,11). He has pale green eyes, and brown hair. He wears the Arundiel sigil on his clothing (It's here if you'd like to see it). He is always tries to keep himself clean and well shaven.

    Screen capture of your skin:

Biography (Minimum 400 words. Cannot include loved ones being killed, kidnapped, tortured, or the like, unless you can do it in a non-cliche manner.):

Araesis Arundiel was born in the city of Avalon to a moderately successful blacksmith, Florian Arundiel, and his wife Melanie. Right from the beginning, his parents taught him that he had a rich heritage. His family was the one of the last remnants of the ancient House Arundiel, who were the Wardens of the West before the fall of the monarchy. They told him the story of how his ancestor, Valorum Arundiel was assassinated and when the rest of his family rose in rebellion, they were crushed. “We were crushed, Araesis,” his father told him. “But when something is crushed, the pieces still remain. Do you know our words? ‘Unforgetting, Unforgiving, Unending’. Araesis, I do not know what you are destined for, but what I do know is that you will have no limits. You will strive to be the best you can be in this world, and give your all in whatever interests you. Arundiels do not slack. Arundiels do not lack. Do you understand me?” Araesis thought he did.

When Araesis was ten, his parents made him work around the blacksmith shop. He would perform the most basic of jobs. When he was not working, his mother would teach him to read and write. He became well acquainted with the history of both his family and nation. He took a special interest in the political power plays during the times of the monarchy and early chancellery. When he was thirteen, he began to help his father smelt ores and create armor. It was during this time that Florian taught him the art of business. He would teach him how to find the right price, how to bargain, how to be charismatic and likable to your customers, and how to deal with competitors. “Think of life as one big business if you want to be successful. You need to have something that other people want, and you need to know how to make people want what you have. Running for Chancellor, at its’ basis, is just like being a merchant, except for the fact that you’re the product.” Araesis took these lessons to heart, and when he turned 18, he left his parents with aspirations to become a merchant.

He returned home later that night, drunk and beaten, from a tavern. What had happened at that bar, Araesis did not remember the next morning. His parents, infuriated, kicked him out of the house. “What is your name?” , his mother had demanded. “Araesis,” he had responded. “Araesis what?”, his mother had asked next. “Araesis Arundiel.” Araesis knew what was coming next. “Well then, Araesis Arundiel, do not come back to this house until you understand what your name means. Now go.” Araesis slept in the streets of the slums that night, and the next morning, he vowed never to sleep in the streets again. The next day, he obtained a lowly job at the academy, using his extensive knowledge of history to his advantage. He used the money he earned to rent a room at an inn until he saved enough to buy a house in the slums. From there, he left his job at the academy and opened up a small bookstore, where he met a woman by the name of Emmeline. Over the time that he ran the bookstore, he and Emmeline became best friends. After a year of running his store, he began to pay close attention to people, especially the men who tried to sell him “vintage”, or “rare” books. He studied the actions they performed while lying: where they looked, what they did with their hands, and whether or not they seemed confident in what they were saying. Because he lived in the slums, but grew up in the city, he already had experience with a large range of people. This knowledge, he knew, would come in handy later on in his life.

When Araesis was 27, he closed down his bookstore and moved back into the city, taking a new job as the academy librarian. He would often wander the library in his free time, reading the occasional history book or watching academy magic lessons from afar. Magic had always intrigued him, not because he had any special desire to learn it, but because of it’s awe-inspiring nature. Creating something out of nothing, with your own hard-earned power and expertise. That was something that Araesis could respect. It was his respect of magic that lead Araesis to view Arthon as a role-model, as well as dislike the Church with all its rules and limitations. Why limit the great?

Araesis had worked at the library for six months before deciding that it might be time to move forward once more. Assistant of the library, to lowly bookstore owner, to librarian of the Academy... What’s next?

What is your character’s main goal? (Motivation): Araesis' main ambition, simply put, is to achieve something that he believes is worthy of the name "Arundiel".

Strengths (Both physical and personality): Araesis is a natural liar (aided by his "study" of human beings during his time spent in the slums). He is also rather smart and tends to think very far into the future. Even though he doesn't like to admit it, he cares immensely about those he is close to, whether it be friends or family. He is very determined and does not give up easily (although it may seem like he has).

Weaknesses (Both physical and personality): He is ambitious to a fault, and is only an average sword fighter at best. Part of his motivation is living up to his parent's expectations, and so he always seems to have this internal sense of not being "good enough". It always seems like he is trying to prove something, even if he does not.

Will your character likely join an existing faction? If so, which? If not, why not?: No, not at the moment.

Does your character have any connections to currently-existing characters or characters yet to be accepted? If so, which? (See “Character Linking Aid”. Please post a link to the topic.): He and Queenling1358's character (Emmeline) are very good friends who have known each other for a while.

Araesis is walking down the streets of the slums when he sees the pair of heavily armored men harassing the girl. Almost instantly, he has an idea. Araesis, he thinks to himself. You are going to regret this... Moving slowly, he picks a medium-sized rock up off the floor and gets as close to the armored men as he dares. "Hey!" he calls out. "That must be one strong girl if it takes two huge, armored men to attack her." When the armored men turn around, Araesis hurls the stone at the closest one's face. At best, the stone knocks him out. At worst, it causes him an injury, and either way, Araesis has their attention. "What are you two doing?"
He motions for the girl to run.

"What does it look like we're doing?" the wounded one responds angrily.

"Something illegal," Araesis says. "Which is why you won't be pleased to hear that there are three guards just around the corner."

"No there isn't!" the other one says angrily.

"No there aren't. And are you sure about that?" Araesis flashes the man a smile. "Would you like me to call them?"

"Let's just get out of here," the other man says.

"Good idea. And don't do this again. I know you two... and I think I know your names. If I hear about any more trouble, you know who I'll report to the guards. Got it?"

"Whatever," the wounded man says as he walks away. If there was a guard nearby, he would have heard the girl's screams, idiots. Satisfied with the way his lie went, Araesis continues on his way.

A man approaches you with a proposition - Go to Bloodstone and retrieve something for him, and you will be well rewarded.

Araesis looks at the man and says, "Do I look like a man with a death wish?" He then turns away from the man and heads back to the academy.

You pass an old man lying on the side of the street, begging for food.

Araesis looks down at the man, feeling a faint sense of pity. He flips the man a coin and returns to whatever business he was taking care of.

In a tavern, a slightly inebriated fellow insults your mother.

Araesis smiles faintly to himself and pretends he hasn't heard the man. After flashing a quick glance at the man and seeing a sword, he gets up. Leaving his water on the table, he heads towards the exit. Before he leaves the tavern however, he turns back and said, "Well, sir, you are a little less than half the woman my mother was. I wonder what that says about you?"

You take a liking to a beautiful necklace a passing woman wears.

That's a nice necklace, Araesis thinks as he passes by the woman. He doesn't give it a second thought.

Do you have any questions about the server or our lore? Nope.

    Character Information

    Name: Gaius Ballet

    Age: 26

    Race: Human

    Class: Herbalist

Physical description: Average height. Has some extra muscle due to traveling around Harium on foot. His clothes at times look worn out. His hair grows down to his shoulders and it is jet black. He has traces of a beard, but it is very, very short.

    Screen capture of your skin:
I'm going to modify this so that the hood is off and you can see the hair: http://www.planetmin...utumn-traveler/

Biography (Minimum 400 words. Cannot include loved ones being killed, kidnapped, tortured, or the like, unless you can do it in a non-cliche manner.):

Gaius Ballet is a man who believes that he has a purpose. He was born and raised in The Province of Javil, on a farm run by his parents. Throughout his childhood, his parents taught him to farm, but also to read and write so that he might have a better life than they did. Gaius never realized that until later, and quickly grew frustrated with his agrarian lifestyle. The books he read about the heroes of old such as the Founding Four and Struganam did nothing to quell these feelings, and he resolved to leave his home as soon as he was able to. Until then, he worked on his family's fields. Looking back on his childhood, Gaius would realize that his parents really did love him.

He ran away from his home one year earlier than he originally planned to, at the age of seventeen. He left without leaving so much as a note explaining why. He packed his books and money, but nothing else, and set off for the famed Capital, The Republic of Horium, where he knew that he would be able to become whatever he wanted to be. What did he want to be? As Gaius traveled to Horium, he contemplated his future. He visited many different towns and cities along the way, and for that reason, the journey took three years. Many events happened in that time, but throughout them all, he was plagued by conflict. He left his parents and his home because he wanted to be something more than a farmer, but what exactly did he want to be? This lack of purpose led to his habit of frequenting inns and taverns when he arrived in The apital. He had nothing else to do with his life. Sometimes he would sleep in inns, other times on the streets. He would steal and pickpocket for money that he would later spend on ale. He forgot completely about his dreams that he had when he was a child. He spent the next year or so living like this.

One night, Gaius was drinking at a local tavern like he did many nights before. He was getting drunker than he had ever been before that night. I might die tomorrow, he thought. Why not enjoy my life while I still live it? That was how he justified it, but deep down, he felt intense guilt. The guilt that he had begun to feel ever since he left his parents. The guilt he felt about leaving his parents and instead of pursuing a life in trading or politics, pursuing a life of drinking and stealing. Perhaps that was why he stayed in taverns so much. To drown out the guilt. That night, it would all change, however. As he drunkenly walked down the torch lit hallway towards the chamberpot, he saw someone accidentally knock a torch off of the wall and within seconds, the hallway was on fire. The fire eventually destroyed the entire tavern. Gaius would have died that day if not for a person who had seen him collapsed on the floor. The random citizen of Horium carried him out of the burning inn, and burned along with it. The next morning, when Gaius awoke on the singed grass near the burned tavern, he had an epiphany. If I have stolen and done terrible things, then why would someone save me from this fire? Perhaps it wasn't someone as much as something. What if Gaius did have a purpose on this world after all? What if God wanted him to live so that he could fulfill his purpose?

That was what Gaius did. With a renewed sense of purpose, he became a scholar and studied Struganam and his teachings. He traveled around Harium for the next ten years, stopping in various towns to teach different people about God. “We all have a purpose,” he told them. “And God wants you to fulfill that purpose. This is my purpose, and you must find out yours.” Soon, however, the war broke out, and Gaius found nothing but destruction. He decided to travel to the small town of Roland's Basin and spread the word of God there. He hoped that the smallfolk of the town would listen, even if the rest of the world wouldn't.

What is your character's main goal? (Motivation): To fulfill his destiny and help others realize that the Struganam God wants them to fulfill their purpose as well.

Strengths (Both physical and personality): He has rather good survival skills because has traveled around Harium on foot for the past decade. He knows how to farm from his childhood. He is a good and convincing speaker. He is more or less charismatic. He has a cynical sense of humor.

Weaknesses (Both physical and personality): His knowledge of how to use a sword is limited. He can only use a knife well. He can be seen as very self centered depending on how you look at him. He has trouble seeing his own mistakes, and still feels guilty about leaving his parents in Javil.

Will your character likely join an existing faction? If so, which? If not, why not?: No, not at the moment, although he may consider creating one.

Does your character have any connections to currently-existing characters or characters yet to be accepted? If so, which? (See "Character Linking Aid". Please post a link to the topic.): No, he does not.

In-Character-Responses (ICRs. For each scenario, write at least a paragraph describing entirely in-character how your character would respond to the situation.)

Walking down the streets of the Undercity, you encounter a pair of heavily armed and armoured men harassing a young girl.

Gaius would look at the two armored men uncertainly before swallowing his fear and calling for them.
Gaius: Y-You there! W-What do you think you're doing?
Man 1: Get out of here. It don't concern you what I'm doing.
*Gaius walks towards the two men and pushes the girl away from them.
Gaius: Come harass me then. I'm just as defenseless as her, aren't I? Come do it to me and let her go!
    Man 2: What?
    *Man 1 unsheathes sword
Gaius: Woman, run. Run now, and don't look back. *To the men* Look, I don't think God put you on this land so that you could harass young women.
Man 1: I don't care what your God put me on this land for. All I care about right now is that my sword cuts a neat little hole in your gut.
*Gaius turns and runs as fast as he can, the two men in hot pursuit.

You've been lost in the tunnels for nearly a week without food, and come across a small independent settlement.

*Gaius half walks, half stumbles towards the settlement. His clothes are visibly worn.
Settlement Guard: What do you want with us?
Gaius: Sir, I've been lost for nearly a week in these tunnels without food. Would you be able to spare a poor man a loaf of bread and perhaps a glass of water?
Guard: I don't know... Our stores have been running low.
Gaius: But you have enough to sustain yourselves, don't you? Sir, let me ask you a question. If you held a random man's life in your hands, and you could choose whether to kill him, or let him live, what would you do?
Guard: I would let him live! I have no reason to kill him.
Gaius: Then what is making you hesitate now?

You pass an old man lying on the side of the street, begging for food.

Beggar: Please, can you spare any gold?
*Gaius, not wanting the Beggar to spend his gold on drinks at the local tavern, decides to buy him bread instead.
Gaius: It grieves me whenever I see men on the streets, begging for gold because you don't deserve to die. I will buy you some bread.
Beggar: *smiles* Eh, gold is just fine for me. I will buy myself bread. You probably have somewhere you need to be going, don't you?
    Gaius: Actually, I don't.
*Gaius buys the man two loaves of bread and gives them to him. Smiles sadly as the man begins to beg for gold once more once he thinks that Gaius is out of earshot.

In a tavern, a slightly inebriated fellow insults your mother.

Gaius would take offense to the insult because he knows that his mother loved him enough to teach him to read and write even though those skills would be useless on a farm. He still feels guilty about his parents and will defend them always.
Gaius: Now look, my mother raised me to be the best I could be, which is more than you can say for yours.
Drunk: *laughs* Well my mother raised me to be a man. If your mother did the same thing, then why don't you show it? *raises fists*
Gaius: So your mother mistook you for a man- *is punched in the mouth by the Drunk* Oh god...
Drunk: What? You can't fight back?
Gaius: No... I won't fight back. I spread pea- *The drunk's fist hits his left cheek*
*Gaius runs from the tavern, hoping to halt furthur fighting.

You take a liking to a beautiful necklace a passing woman wears.

Gaius notices the necklace, but decides to ignore it. It was material things like that that got me started down the wrong path in the first place, he would think to himself. That necklace means nothing to me. At one time, it might have, but not anymore.

Do you have any questions about the server or our lore?

Yes. Exactly how prominent is religion in this world? I made this character extremely religious but I'm not sure if that type of character would fit in with this type of world, so can someone shed a little bit of light on that?

I believe that the lag issues are from corrupted chunks, because I don't lag much when I play, and my current computer is crap. I usually stay in Westfall, but I've heard reports of lots of lag in the capital of the human nation. I am going to run the map through chunkster to try and fix that.
