Jan 31, 2011Posted in: Survival ModeQuote from Zorkunen »Well a mob spawner can also spit out mobs even if you floor the place with half tiles so mob spawners are a special case.
Also: Mob spawners will spit out more of their unit if you get them away from it- so with some water flows or such you could produce a room with dozens of zombies while the spawner keeps spitting them out.
Yes and no, like the ghasts spawning infinitely, they would cause the java to freeze running out of memory. But anyway, you need a lot of them before you reach that point.
I remember the nether being unplayable for many people, especially mac user because of the ghasts spawning way too much. Though, I am not claiming this is the problem, it's one of the possibility.
On a side note, Notch added a spawning limit for mobs on ground, or by chunks, I am not sure if the mob spawner follow those rules, because waiting near a dungeons with the walls made of glass, after an hour, the dungeon is far from being full.
To be confirmed though.
Jan 31, 2011fuzzywuff posted a message on Any ideas on how Notch could fix the mob farm exploitPosted in: Survival Modeexploit
1. a notable deed or feat, esp one that is noble or heroic
2. to take advantage of (a person, situation, etc), esp unethically or unjustly for one's own ends
3. to make the best use of: to exploit natural resources
In my opinion, people here are referencing the "mobs grinding" as the best use to exploit natural resources.
Which in the way mean that the mechanic is an advanced way to have advantage on getting more for less.
Now we got a group of ethnic people here speaking arguments about a word and a game mechanic without knowing what they are talking about.
Anyway, let make this clear; yes, "grinders" are unfair if you lack of luck to find a dungeon, struggles for resources, or think this is the easy way. Now, nothing stop you to don't use this method if you don't like it, but if you play on a multiplayer server, you have to know the most important rule which is built on common sense,
"Everyone have theirs ways to enjoy the game, there are no objectives, no scoring, no limits (in both time and size, or a very large one), and most of everything, it's a survival sandbox game where you have to have fun for yourself first."
What does this mean ? Yes I am not an English native speaker, but I try my best here to be understood, you are on a multiplayer server, that mean, every single of you all enjoy the game in a very specific way, that is not forcefully similar to yours, by joining a community, you have to learn that you are not here to please everyone. Starting arguments, using big words, trying to change people on the way "you" want them to enjoy the game is not going to work, no, not at all.
So if you are an user, you have to ignore those who enjoy the game that way, and mind your own way to have fun, you, yes "you" are the one playing, your enjoyment start by thinking about you first. Not about what someone else does. Now if you are a moderator/owner of the server, then I suggest you to make people aware of your rules, and eventually create a whitelist to make sure they respect the way you want your server to be played.
For this, the vanilla version of the server will give you no way to know what's going on, so I suggest you additional tools to check the dungeons, people inventories, and what not to make sure no one is working against the rules.
Open the map in MCEdit as example, and check if the dungeons are farmed and that all. Yes it take time, yes you have to do it often, but that how much you trust your players which you have spoken your rules to respect them.
Instead of talking about redoing the A.I. and fight over something you may not have a full control over it. Why not suggest a mod that disable the dungeon spawning ? Or request a mod to self-destruct the mob spawners after they have been found ?
The title of this thread as a suggestive idea should have been called : [Fix/Idea] How can you prevent mobs farm exploit/disable dungeons ?
Anyway, please, retain to fight together, this is a community, not a PvP fighting arena, and think twice about what you are going to ask or reply, answers are not found in arguments, arguments are not knew to solve problems.
I am out, and wish you all a good day.
You are free to do what you want with what I just wrote, I could care less myself than I just did already.
Jan 29, 2011Ok here an easy question I seem to have hard time figuring out, what is the block type for the water found naturally in the ocean.Posted in: Mods Discussion
English is not my native language for one, and second, on the wikia, they specify that Id 09 in the wiki is "water" and 08 is "still water", but on MCedit, 09 is "stationary water" and 08 is "water"
I have tried them both, and I couldn't come up with a difference at all.
on the ocean you get a top down view like this:
So if I remove the orange block (sand) the water will fill up this space as the same type as the other around.
But now I tried both kind of water, when i remove this orange block, both doesn't fill up but "flow" the space with a running water animation.
So I am kind of wondering what is the ID number of the water found in the ocean that fill up a block if more than 3 water block on a 3x3 box pattern fill up back the place.

I cant understand the problem exactly... sry... only tried at survival single player mode... but maybe there are some blocks blocking the carts.
oh it was simple, I figured out what was causing this. I have mirrored your tracks, as in the left was the right and the right was the left. at one exception, I did not reverted the doors. So the carts could not go down.
It's fixed now and got it working :biggrin.gif:

Jan 28, 2011I got the shape right when looking at your video, but pushing the button or doors doesn't move the cart down, they goes up well though but stack together, I was wondering if it's because of multiplayer lag, I should try in survival.Posted in: Survival Mode
But hmm, do you got a specific order to place the cart or does they need to be pushed first.
also thank you for the re-upload, going to compare with your map and see if I have done something wrong eventually.
