Thanks to MCP and the accessibility of JAVA, modding for minecraft is pretty easy. Coding elegantly and correctly is another story and you would have to ask someone who can do either of those for advice on how that can be accomplished!
Since you can parse the source with MCP, looking at different classes and what they do is your best help in figuring out how things work. Or, decompile mods that have similar functions to what you plan to do and see how they coded them.
Here are some great examples of how to do various things in minecraft - Modloader TUTORIALS - Some things have changed, but most of the stuff is still relevant.
Also, using an IDE like Eclipse helps a lot from what I hear, and that is something I plan on using when moving to 1.3 instead of notepad to code everything!
Here are more tutorials relating to Minecraft Forge, which is a mod that allows custom hooks into the game. I currently use it just for adding sprites without maxing out the sprite limit and creating a custom achievements page, but it can do so much more. FORGE TUTS
Above all, start small and get your first mod working correctly from compiling to reobfuscating and then just build from there.

Hey guys I'm new to modding I'm about 99% I installed this correctly everything is working fine but I don't know how to control the spawn rates it says to go to the property's file but I don't see one and I'm getting annoyed that I can't fix this cuz some monsters and spawning to much plllz help
Are you talking about Big Babies? This is fixed in the upcoming 2.6.2 release. What other creeps are taking over your worlds?

FreakStritch, you may want to give the update soon. It appears that everyone is thinking that v2.61 has the old ladies and slot machines and stuff. I've noticed that a lot of people on this forum are thinking that. Also, Ihascupquake seems to think that too... :/

Absolutely brilliant! It really gives me some good ideas to see how other people play, especially playing legit, which is a real challenge.
After watching this video, I think I will tweak the Pony growth, add a message to look up in the sky for the Pony Cloud delivery service and have the enlarged creeps shrink back down to normal size after Gregg has enlarged them and make Ponies immune to damage while on your head. Did you do any more vids on this mod? I would like to see more!

Freakstritch are you sure you will be able to make the mod compatible with 1.3? It's coming tomorrow! Also can you leave some source files as a seperate download for this mod? I have thought of some features you should add too:

I will add new drops to the creeps that just have generic ones, but between adding new stuff and fixing your long list of bugs [thanks btw - you are a superb tester!!] it just takes time to add them. I think I fixed all of the major gameplay bugs now and will release soon.
1.3 will require a HUGE rewrite, so expect that only a few things will be available to start. So, I plan to have a few more releases in 1.2.5 while I work on the 1.3 version at the same time.
I also have an idea for another mod which I will start after I get 1.3 to a bug-filled but playable state.
For some reason I am unable to craft the slot machine, I put the necessary materials into a crafting table but a slot machine does not appear.
Also, when I try to combine the flying mod with this, Minecraft black screens.
Trying to use the 'zombe' mod to enable flying and build mode but following the instructions to install that mod with this one running at the same time causes Minecraft to break.

If you want to cheat, you can just use TMI and get a SkyGem to fly around
Floobships won't spawn in the overworld, but they will flood The End!
Redstone power-ups are infinite
Adult Ponies look really weird when they are told to stay. For one thing, they don't look around and their tail jitters. Also if you tell it to sit while in mid-air it will be stuck and will defy gravity
Non-Swimmers and cavemen don't spawn with megaspawn set to false
Wild Guinea pigs instantly disappear when they run out of health
You don't get a bucket back when you craft love potions!
Haha - some of these are just ridiculous, like the floobs flooding the end! Well, I have all of the new stuff finished, so I guess I will fix some bugs before releasing the next version. Thanks for the report - looking forward to the next one when you get hold of the new stuff!
No im saying that i installed a fresh new minecraft, installed forge mo creeps and custommobspawner and when i open minecraft it just stays at the mojang screen :[

Old Ladies spawn randomly and they don't fight back, so be nice! You can carry them over to a Slot Machine and then throw them at it and they will keep playing for you! However, if you leave them there too long, they become skeletons and play rather slowly, so time for a new Old Lady!
BUT.. why not make them a Lucky Dress to increase your odds of winning?
