Did you just read what you wrote?...not knowing what they make from realms is actually VERY RELEVANT when you say it gives them a way to make money without making a sequel....you do not know how much it cost for them to supply these servers.......
Nope, still irrelevant. Never said they'd succeed, now did I? Just pointed out the blatantly obvious fact that a subscription service offers a continual revenue stream. If they can continue making money off of Minecraft, why would they even need a sequel?
Oh so you know how much they are profiting from this? Please link.
I have no more knowledge of the inner workings of Mojang's business than you do. However, knowing how much they make is pretty much irrelevant to my point. Realms gives them a way to make money without having to resort to a sequel.
You realize the console version has surpasses the PC version in sales right and its farther behind in updates then the PC version with no mods so saying no one would buy MC 2 b/c of tekkit.........right.
The realm service? You mean basically servers for rent? O we haven't played on servers yet...thats new.
Who cares if it's new? It's a way to monetize Minecraft continually, without ever needing to charge for an update.
Really hope this happens. Seems whatever exclusivity deal that they may or may not have had with Microsoft has expired anyway (as evidenced by the PS3 edition and the announced PS4 and Vita editions).
Would be even more awesome to play Minecraft in 3d on the 3DS!
Why would a company invest in 10 people's salary to make a game thats pretty much guaranteed to sell millions of copies? Dunno bro.
Um, because they'd have to pay ten people to make a sequel that is not guaranteed to sell anything, but is very likely to upset the fan base that has been offered free upgrades for life?
Besides, they have already come up with something else that pretty much invalidates your entire point - Realms. Subscription service that adds to the game, but is not required. With how massively popular Minecraft is, I doubt they even need a very large percentage of players to sign up!
You shouldn't be able to break a lily pad with a boat. I haven't had any problems with boats over long distances. I think there my be a bug there.
That's incorrect. You can definitely break lily pads with the boat. That feature has been in the game for quite some time now. However, due to how buggy boats are, sometimes they break on a lily pad, even though that shouldn't happen anymore.
Anyway, to the OP: do you have your map out while in your boat? I've had better luck sailing around if I don't take my map out - seems that having your map out exacerbates the bug. But yeah, your apparent position can be off from your actual position when you are in a boat - try staying at least 10 blocks from any land. I think I saw somewhere that they are working on making boats more reliable for 1.8.
What would be much better buisnesswise would be to allow some sort of marketplace or P2W business model. But Mojang doesn't want that, and that's what has led us here. What I would personally like is a few expansion packs, like FTB, that could be unlocked with around $2-5. Mojang could take a cut, and the modders could get the rest. That's money for mojang, and mod support.
I'm kinda grateful this is not their business model, and hope it never will be. In any case, isn't the idea of having a recurring revenue stream the whole point behind their Realms service? I'd rather hope they are successful enough with Realms to never need, let alone consider, Minecraft 2.0.
A while back I saw some info online about the "best" level for each ore, and apparently you have the highest chance of encountering diamonds at level 5. However, since lava pools near bedrock often generate with a surface at y=11, that is a more popular (and relatively safer) level to mine at.
While his response might seem a bit . . . odd, yours may be crossing into the territory of being rude and/or prejudice.
Anyway, back to topic. My favorite thing about Minecraft is actually that I don't think you can "beat" the game. That's what keeps me coming back; other games I'll play until I beat it once, maybe twice. Minecraft I just keep playing and playing!
Well, that isn't completely true. Minecraft changed the EULA, now server owners can't sell things like donator ranks. Only things like nicknames, pets and things that doesn't give players an advantage on other players.
As I understand it, this was never allowed per the EULA; Mojang was simply failing to enforce that until now.
I like it. Now I might have to revamp my own survival house a bit, just cause I'm jealous. I'd give it 8/10 (maybe more once you find a way to upload pics of the basement).
Ok, so I've been spending too much time in the Nether post TU-16 and a few things have come up.
1. Ambient sounds. I know they added ambient sounds a while back in the Overworld to the caves etc. to add atmosphere, but apparently this also applies to the Nether. But it's not just the drips and groans you get in the Overworld, oh no! If you stand still too long in the Nether, you hear what sounds like a little girl whimpering in fear. I was playing last night, home alone in the dark, and this kept happening and it scared the living poo out of me. Very freaking creepy.
The weird whimpering and cries are made by ghasts, so when you hear those keep an eye out for those fireballs! Also, you can only hear ghasts when they are really close, but they can fire at you pretty much from line of sight.

The existence of the Realms service still invalidates your point.

Would love to have my own account, instead of always having to play on my girlfriend's account!
