So I've been working on Nephuku Estate, my base in Brujuku-ku, the Brooklyn-Harajuku mash up parody city-island on my server The Oddverse (link in sig) which will be home to a large, advanced technological server infrastructure, farms, machines, mass storage / sorting systems, etc. My address is 1 Neapolitan Ave, Brujuku-ku. :)

I finished two rooms of generic item sorting, and built a couple "sinks" in the kitchen of my base and down in my work station, where you can come in with a shulker full of random items, place it on the sink, and the system will suck all the items out, sort all the generics, and return the un-sortable items to a chest just above the sink. It's working wonderfully well and makes work on the server a breeze, and I already have a lever toggle hooked up to divert items to an external mass storage facility which I plan to build later on the island.

I also finished a really cleanly compact 2x1 honey-block-slime-block flying machine elevator to take you from the ground floor up to the garden roof where I have a few crops set up. One simple button can be pressed to either activate the elevator or call it to your location. The bottom floor comes with a pair of automatic piston doors which remain closed until the elevator arrives, and then opens automagically.

Yesterday, I wound up challenging one of our server mods Ozuhara to a bare knuckle boxing match. After some deliberation, we decided to fight in the Goodvibes barn in Homer. We strippedd down and emptied our inventories, stood at opposite pillars within the barn as Rockmih counted us down to fight, at which point we released the hurricanes. Ozuhara opened the chicken gates, letting chickens come spitting out, throwing eggs at me, and then fled to the cow pen where he hid among the cows as I struggled to land a blow among all the livestock. Afterward, we set up an H.B.K.B. Scoreboard (Homer Bare Knuckle Boxing) just outside the Goodvibes barn with two item deposit chests for fighters and a set of rules. I think we're going to build some more advanced arena type games / fighting competition areas, but bare knuckle boxing in the barn wound up being more fun than I anticipated. XD

A couple other random things I wound up doing recently are, I found the very first wooden pickaxe crafted on the server, enchanted it, and named it The Immaculate Mattock, which we will build a shrine / temple in honor of. I built the first shop in Homer, an enchanted book store called The Coolasstic Book Fair. I further mapped out my island Brujuku-ku, and the wider continental territories. I built a cacti-smelter XP generator just outside Nephuku Estate which helps keep my gear repaired. And I built an annoying slimeblock piston machine in Ozuhara's base and gave it trapdoor wings and named it "BIRDIE FLAP FLAP FLAP". XD

posted a message on Haste II + Efficiency V Not Working

Hello there, I've been having a problem with my beacon not working.

I've built a functional level II beacon using iron blocks, selected the Haste II option, inputted an iron ingot, and clicked the green checkmark to apply the buff. The buff icon pops up as normal indicating the buff is applied to me, consistently giving a timer cooldown which perpetually regenerates. But I find absolutely no change in the speed of mining stone, granite, andesite, etc. None whatsoever. I have however noticed a mining speed change with terracotta. I'm wondering what is wrong, why it is not working.

If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

I'm convinced beehives need to spawn more than 5% of the time now.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe bees spawn 5% of the time any tree is spawned in both the flower biome and the plains biome. So you shouldn't have to scope out a flower biome just to find bees. You just need to inspect more than 20 trees in the flower and plains biomes.

After weeks of exploring the territory around the server, I have finally settled on a location for my base, on an island far south called Brujuku, which will be a satirical eco-hipster-future combination of Brooklyn, NYC and Harajuku, Tokyo, with uber modern architecture meets oldschool NYC / Tokyo urban architecture, complete with a futuristic automated-resource infrastructure (mob farms, iron farms, greenhouse farms, etc. all funneling resources into a collective storage system at my base).

I've also ventured out into new chunks and brought back a supply of bees, which I supplied to both my base and the non-profit Goodvibes Public Center in the spawn town of Homer. In addition to that, I built a temporary iron farm in Homer which is already producing an excellent level of iron. The spawn-area chunk it is located in runs in the background no matter where a player is active on the server. So it's always producing iron (the iron you see is how much it produced just while I was taking pictures).

Also considering renaming the server, as I just discovered someone had already named their server "Spudcraft". Any suggestions?

Been fleshing out the maps of the surrounding territories on my server Spudcraft, and getting ready to build a secret government facility / "industrial complex" in the north mesa for some massive automatic mob / iron / xp / sugar cane farms all hooked up to a centralized item sorting facility called the Yield Index. I actually did this before in my single player world, where items beep and flash lights every time they are deposited into the system, which makes it feel like you're walking around inside a computer. XD I also finished my shipwreck starter base.

    posted a message on 🪐 The Oddverse 🪐 - [ Whitelist / Survival / Redstone / Civilization ]

    Greetings!

Welcome to The Oddverse, a new vanilla adventure-build server in the style of Hermitcraft. Tours and invites are available for any chill, fun, talented architect / redstoners looking for a No-Hacks No-Griefing straight up collaborative Minecrafty good time.

Come check out the non-profit hippy lodge Goodvibes Commune in the spawn town of Homer for maps and respawn supplies. Feel free to farm from our variety of crops and livestock, and use our organic home grown golden carrots to breed some steeds at the Goodvibes Stables. Need some paper? Check out the Goodvibes Public Center basement for Mr. Auto-Mato's state of the art Sugarcaner.

Walk north to visit Ozu Manor under Mt. Shochiku, or fly east to Booji Island to check out my (Nephes') shipwreck The Esteban! (say hi to the Teenage Mutant Sea Turtles: Carravaggio, Giovanni, Titian and Botticelli). Further north you can find the Redland End Portal, or travel west across the Lumino Sea passed some beautiful jungle islands and see Rockmih's wintry Manor in the snowy land of Altfeuer.

Much is planned for The Oddverse, including some secret government industrial facilities containing massive iron and mob farms, piston bolt connections between locations, and perhaps even an Ender Pearl Cannon or two.

    Quote from Badprenup»

I get what you are going for here, but when it comes to things like server administration which this falls into it should be simple and not gated by obtaining in game items. Imagine if you couldn't set up a whitelist until you found a specific item in the game. The same principle applies here.

Not to mention this could be used for griefing as easily as it can be used to prevent griefing. Players who have been on a server long enough would have the materials necessary to build these around new player's stuff or just randomly to screw with people.

Building in chunk protection that is handled by commands makes way more sense. It would be easier to use, relatively safe because it is restricted to admins, more efficient, and much more versatile. You could restrict areas to specific people or teams and specific areas of whatever size you want rather than having to chain together multiple structures.

I've been playing this game so long (webpage embedded alpha) I've seen so much near-sighted resistance to good ideas on this forum only to see those ideas implemented into the game anyway. Remember when people fought so hard against smooth lighting? 😂 I'm getting the same vibe here.

In case you hadn't noticed, well resourced griefers can already totally level your base with TNT, or lava, etc. If a griefer came to your base with a keystone, they'd probably just level it first anyway. So I don't buy that argument at all. However, if you had your base guarded with a keystone, it would be too time consuming and tedious for many griefers to bother, and would therefore mitigate the time spent and extent to which your base is griefed.

At the end of the day, it's an in game function that gives players control over block manipulation, no different than beacons inducing mining fatigue (maybe that's how it should be implemented?). If you implement a keystone into your base before your base is discovered, your base is safer, and the number of people likely to take time to destroy your base will decrease, as will the time and extent to which they spend destroying it.

Players would therefore not have to rely on the whims and maintenance of admins and moderators and whitelists (which would obviously still exist too), they could safeguard their bases themselves, within the actual gameplay, rather than modding griefers away, which in my view is far less interesting than an actual gameplay mechanic.

posted a message on Keystones: Beacon Style Anti-Griefing Perimeter Guards

Multiplayer servers often resort to implementing mods which prevent players from griefing builds. I believe I have a better solution.

Imagine a beacon style structure which players can build, let’s say buried underground, amid a cast of obsidian, which would set a protection buff on all blocks within a 32 or 64 block radius, unless you possessed in your inventory / offhand a keystone paired to the structure, which would allow you to break blocks / entities normally.

The protection buff would not be impenetrable, but would multiply each block’s mining time by 64 or 128. So let’s say if you did not possess the correct keystone paired to the structure, it could take you the same amount of time to break a block of simple stone within the radius of protection as it would normally take to break a block of obsidian, depending on what kind of tool or enchants you are using.

Placing blocks / components within the protected radius without a keystone would also be inhibited, which would take several attempts before a block / item is placed, giving off a force field sound effect each time the attempt to place a block is denied.

The result would be an effective deterrent, players could conceivably place / destroy blocks within the area, but it would take such an immense amount of time to do so that it would typically not be worth it.

One fun twist would be that the keystone could be paired with the structure simply by renaming it in an anvil. So players diligent enough to dig into the structure to find its name could effectively bust the code by renaming their own keystone to match.

I think the concept of bees is fantastic, and I like the actual functionality of the beehives, pollination, honey blocks, etc.

However, in terms of the design of the bees themselves, Mojang leaned way too hard into the "cute" angle, and the resulting design looks absolutely awful. They're way too large, and the "cute" design is actually far more annoying than it is cute. Mojang needs to listen to the community and give them a redesign, make them a bit smaller (you don't have to adhere to fractional proportions of actual game blocks, Mojang, just shrink them down until it feels appropriate, there is no reason they should be any larger than a baby chicken), and tone down the whole "cute" factor. They're going to be cute anyway, don't annoy us with the extra saccharine overload.

My buddies and I started a brand new server and in the town of Saint Homer (spawn town) I built us a sort of hippy community building called Goodvibes Public Center, which contains backup copies of maps of the surrounding territories, general supplies, respawn supplies, enchanted armor and tools / weapons, beds, crafting areas, anvils, with an automatic sugar cane farm and storage section in the basement, wheat / carrots / potato / melon and pumpkin crops surrounding the main building for selling to villager Ezekiel, in addition to stables with donkeys, mules, horses, stocked with saddles, and a livestock barn, all for public use by players.

I also built a temporary starter base, which is a shipwreck on Booji Island, which I call Nephes' Fishin' Shack. I have four Teenage Mutant Sea Turtles named Carravaggio, Giovanni, Titian and Botticelli. My buddy Ozuhara built a Japanese temple under Mt. Shochiku called Mu Manor, and another buddy Rockmih is currently building a large snow town far to the west. Soon we're going to start building some large industrial farms, as a sort of hidden government facility in the Madlands Mesa to the north east, and I hope to connect a bunch of the builds / cities with a piston bolt minecart system and eventually an Ender Pearl Cannon.

By the way, we're looking for other chill, talented builders, so if anyone would like to take a server tour or join, hit me up!
