posted a message on Curse Client Now Includes Server Lists!
    Um..
It tells me that the only thing I do is download this and i'm good to go. But I did so, and the only thing its been doing for 30mins now is downloading a list of apps... now when I open it, it says no game installs were found, and it won't let me install minecraft....
I think being more specific on what to do, rather than saying download the client would help out more.

    Quote from Mixy97

I've always disliked the entire concept of donating. If the server owner can't run the server properly with his own money instead of using the community donations, he shouldn't run it at all then. Plus, if someone gives you money for hosting the server for them (doesn't matter if they wanted to give the money with free will) then it feels like a job, which is just wrong if you ask me.

All public servers are for the community and paid for by the community, theres nothing wrong with that.
I find it ridiculous that you think if someone doesn't spend their own money on the server, then he shouldn't run it at all then. Some servers can pay as much as $400 per month* and I don't think ANYONE would want to pay that much out of their own money.

    * Most large servers (100 players+) are around this budget per month, for the dedicated server, ddos protection, advertising, website/forums, and if you had a custom server you could possibly be paying developers. Not only that but servers are VERY time consuming maintaining and hosting it all.

    Quote from ChrisPrankster

That is ridiculous. Also, there's this server called Ubercraft(I think).

Finally! Someone else who thinks donating is crap. Also, server owners clearly don't know what donating is. Donating is giving something(like money) without expecting anything in return. Pretty much having a server member ship is what they're doing.

Man, that server. I will never understand how its one of the most popular servers out there. Its ran as if it were a company, blasting donate now messages at me every second, and people that bought admin ranks banning people for no reason. Thats why some people are so against donating is because of servers like that.
Yeah the term "donating" on minecraft servers is not really correct. But how else can you say it, I know most server owners know that donating is giving money and not expecting anything in return, but really no one will just give money for the hell of it without receiving something. And its the only way to keep em afloat.

Not sure why a lot of people despise selling in-game items. Without selling in-game items, a lot of servers would not get donations since to be honest hardly anyone will donate to a server, if the server doesn't give something back(yes, some people will, but a majority will not). As long as it doesn't give them a HUGE advantage then theres nothing wrong with it..

I also don't understand how a lot of people voted for liking donations, and have donating before, but don't like servers selling in-game items. I can't name one popular server out there that does not sell in-game items. o.O

    Investigating screen:

"screen -ls" : This will list all of the screens for your user.
    "screen -r" : Re-attach to a detached screen session
"screen -d -r" : Re-attach to an attached screen session (which yours looks like it is)

As far as your script goes, it doesn't look like you have anything in there configured properly. I haven't gone through the whole script, but it looks like you need to define all those variables at the top for this to work.

FFFFFFUUUUU your right, I thought the top of it was one of those example things that authors put there and I usually ignore.

posted a message on Can't get automatic backup working
Hello, I have been trying to get an automatic backup script working with cronjob but I just can't get it to work.
    I am using centos.
Directory of the script is /root/server/autobackup.sh

I don't think it's the script itself cause nothing shows or happens.
    Here it is anyways:
    http://pastebin.com/34buBt6Q

I noticed I can't do 'screen -r minecraft', even though I made the screen 'minecraft'
this is what it shows when I do screen -r minecraft, is it suppose to be like that?
     There is a screen on:
    26182.minecraft(Attached)
There is no screen to be resumed matching minecraft.

    Cron
It shows when I do crontab -l
    20 1 * * * /root/server/autobackup.sh 1>/dev/null 2>/dev/null

    Any help?

I really couldn't find any v2 servers, I been to dozens of websites, so if you know of one please link me :)
Also is the 128GB Samsung 830 SSD any good for an SSD?
What exactly does a RAID 1 Disk Controller mean?

And would a Intel Xeon E3-1270 from www.limestonenetworks.com (customized to 16GBs of RAM/500GB SATA) be better than a Intel Xeon E3-1245 from Hetzner http://www.hetzner.de/en/hosting/produkte_rootserver/ex6
    or a I7-2600 from Hetzner http://www.hetzner.de/en/hosting/produkte_rootserver/ex4s ?
Even though going with limestonenetworks, the costs could be 50-100$ more, is it worth it to just not go with Hetzner?

You'll struggle, I doubt for most people the performance gains over the E3-1230 and 1270 justify its pricing... Pre-built servers are generally popular configurations that companies know they'll be able to sell. You could build/buy it yourself and colocate?

I'm sure you'd be happy with the E3-1230v2

    Ok but isn't a E3-1370v2 better?
I know sandybridge's are the way to go but v2's are Ivy bridges, are they better?

Thank you cadika_orade and Eoin, both of your answers helped me out tremendously. Do you happen to know where I can find a dedicated server that is a E3-1290 or E3-1290v2 from a reliable host, I have been to dosens of sites but only can find E3-1230 or E3-1270.
    Thanks again.

Hello I was wondering what is the difference between the I7 2600 and Intel Xeon E3-1270? They have the same CPU (3.4Ghz) but some say Xeon is better for MC servers.

    What would a 1 Gbit-Port do for a server?

What is the absolute best CPU you can get for a minecraft server?

What does a RAID 1 DISK Controller mean?

Is a 128GB Samsung 830 SSD any good for an SSD?

And why do some say not to go with budget hosters aka Hetzner/OVH/Kimsufi for large servers, what are their problems?

    Thanks to anyone that replies!
If you only know an answer to just one question, I would still greatly appreciate it if you replied. =)
