I never criticized the army. Their sacrifice is far greater. But the moderators here sink time into addressing complaints and adhering to the rules. They don't have to do that. They could just enjoy the forum like the rest of us. Instead, they put in extra time to ensure the forum they enjoy is top notch. That is a sacrifice of their time, even if not the biggest, and they should never be considered "lazy."

What an unbelievably stupid and greedy thing to do, criticizing a site run by volunteers, who have sacrificed so much time and even funds to this community.

And yet enchanted books are meant to be rare. They are the next step from the diamond tier.

I feel like we have all exhausted our respective points here, but I'll drop one final argument for removing afk fish farms- what if there was an afk diamond farm? Should Mojang remove that? If you find yourself answering yes, Mojang should remove afk diamond farms, then afk fish farms must also be removed as they simply follow that strand of logic.

My point with creepers is it reaches a point when the game stops becoming a game and more an engine. Let's say Mojang removes AFK Fishing regardless of whether or not this is a "good idea". Should they have this power? Yes because they are already using the power... everywhere. Someone might love the other hostile mobs but desperately want to remove creepers. That is not enough reasoning for Mojang to remove creepers... even if the people who like it can just use a mod.
And this applies everywhere. Someone might want emerald ore removed, from some reason. I don't know. With every feature, Mojang has the right to remove or change. C1ff, I'd argue it doesn't even matter if the feature was intentional or unintentional, even if in this case fish farms weren't planned by Mojang.

It should be a potato crate, like the ones by endergized:

Sorry, but what? In single player you get complete control over what version you play. If you don’t like the combat changes, don’t play 1.9+. Or you can get a simple mod to play the modern version with the spam cli
I do not understand this “forced onto me” part of gaming. Sure, the combat changes were forced onto the vanilla player. But so are those darn creepers! It’s unfair mojang forces creepers onto us! We should be able to remove creepers without mods!

And that's how I evade any criticism; intelligence 100.fightswim to the end.0
An exploit is any mechanic that behaves in a way the devs did not expect. AFK fish farms are abusing these mechanics. Mojang did not implement fishing with this in mind.
This wouldn't be much of an issue if this was not cheating, but it is cheating. It provides players who keep the game running all night at an advantage. To illustrate my point, let's say there are two players, Steve and Alex. Steve and Alex play the exact same time each day, but Steve leaves his computer running at night to earn extra loot. Who is going to be at an advantage when all is said and done? Steve. And because Steve hasn't been actually playing the game, just sleeping while the exploit runs, that is cheating.

Not really- I don't play pvp. I want AFK Fishing Removed because it is an exploit... but we'll get to that later.
My main reply to this post is as follows- AFK Players have just the same PVP skills as anyone else, in that they could be useless or masters because most people who AFK do it when they are not going to be playing regardless. This could be when they are asleep or doing work, etc. They don't sacrifice playing time to AFK fish, so they play more or less the same as you, and should have more or less the same skills as you.
The wikipedia definition of an exploit is: In video games, an exploit is the use of a bug or glitches, game system, rates, hit boxes, speed or level design etc. by a player to their advantage in a manner not intended by the game's designers.
Note, it mentions in a manner not intended by the game's designers, not by the game's community. So an exploit is to be determined by Mojang, not us.
I doubt it (Combat, Modding, Oceans, Villagers... these are all things Mojang has changed to the anger of some but for the greater good). I agree fishing should be updated, I made a suggestion about it here, but I doubt Mojang purposefully excluded it in the name of not changing a mechanic. Because why would they then ruin Iron Farms?
This is not an exploit, this is an intentional break from realism in the name of gameplay Mojang knew they were making Steve able to carry an anvil with mining fatigue... the game is better for it. Mojang did not know people would abuse fishing rod ticks to spam down the rod onto a single block of water and get infinite fish/treasure. The fishing system was designed to be somewhat based in realism hence my argument. I know the system is not totally realistic but it does its best, and I don't think Mojang wrote the code with AFK Fish Farms in mind.
Then why did Mojang have everyone to switch to 1.9 combat? Mojang is able to change the game if they perceive the change for the better. And I think removing an exploit is for the better.
Wait... are you staying up all night playing the game while your friend is asleep AFKing? I think the more likely prospect is your friend is AFKing while you are both playing (in the day), in which case I agree, but most people who AFK plan it out. They get the same hours of sleep as someone who doesn't only they are being "productive" in Minecraft while they are asleep.
Yes, the players who have been on longer have an advantage. But it is not an unfair advantage because they've earned that advantage by playing the game. Again... how does the AFKer lack skills or reflexes? I think you are basing this analogy entirely off your friend who seems to not be playing the game at all. Most AFKers are just as skilled as all of us, only they have a bonus while they sleep.
I will give you your last point... if you catch an AFKer you can kill them. But this is rare... most servers protect you around your base, and even on those that don't, it is rare you would happen to stumble on someone's base at random.
One again I feel like you don't understand how people can just sleep through their AFKing, and still accomplish everything you do during the day.
This is a valid argument. Neither of us has an accurate poll of every Minecraft player and their opinion about AFK Fish Farms.
This is when things get really, really complicated.
Does the community have any real say? I suppose it doesn't. When so many rallied to remove the hunger bar or keep spamclick combat, Mojang didn't listen. They did what they felt was best. Ultimately, this entire conversation is pointless. I think I speak for C1ff, AMPPL, and Wolf in that we aren't arguing in the event Mojang shows up here and considers removing AFK Fish Farms, but to try and convince those that support it they are bad. And you are arguing vice versa, trying to convince us otherwise.
Mojang has all the power in the Vanilla Game. But there is an opportunity for the community to be heard. This is a project known as the Community Revamp. It is a mod run by the community where everyone votes in a democratic fashion on things to be added, in this sense, the community holds the power. I am bringing it up here because you've raised an interesting argument, suggestion threads are now pointless. To which I'd say they always have been pointless. We can suggest something to Mojang but there are not guaranteed, no matter how many "supports" that suggestion gets, Mojang will like it. The Community Revamp was created to provide the suggestions endorsed by the community a place in the game. I encourage everyone not already a part to join, even if you have a different opinion regarding AFK Fish Farms than I.
So you are correct, Mojang holds all the power. The community has no right to decide the vanilla game.

Here we go again...
Afk fish farms provide infinite XP and infinite enchanted books for no price at all. All you need is to waste time not playing the game. Then you have lost a sense of pride and acomplishment by beating the post-diamond progression possibly before you even get diamond. On multiplayer this gives you an unfair advantage.
I’m really surprised so many people are defending afk fish farms, because on nearly every other topic it has come up 90% of people would want them removed. Maybe the topic of this thread triggered everyone who relies on the farms to beat the game, and everyone who agrees with the topic just shrugged it off and didn’t bother reading the comments.

Because C1ff's countless valid reasons regarding game balance don't seem to be working, I'll try another approach- LOGIC:
According to the Minecraft Wiki: Fishing is the process of using a fishing rod to obtain items, usually fish.
Minecraft can't code all the fish in the ocean without tremendous lag, so they resort to invisible fishes for the fishing rod to take. But in Minecraft's lore, there are lots of fish underwater which you are pulling up from the sea. This makes perfect sense in an ocean or in a pond. Treasure also must exist at the bottom of the sea.
So how are so many fishes, leather, and books chilling in a 1 x 1 x 1 cubic meter space? This is a bug in Mojang's attempt to represent fishing. It's not a playstyle it is a glitch, and should, therefore, be removed.

Although AMPPL50 did also respond to your point and I agree with most of his thoughts, I will try to answer your questions to me directly.
Put simply- I think the Frist is better than the Aether because I don't think the Aether is an original idea, and I think the Frist is an original idea. Does originality matter with a dimension. I think it does, and here's why:
I think the Aether is a byproduct of a bygone era when there was only the Overworld and the Nether. Back then, there was only a "regular world" dimension and a "hell world" dimension. It makes perfect sense for someone to say "what if we had a heaven dimension?". And had Notch added it at the time (which we know he was considering) it would have fit the game just fine.
But as soon as the End Dimension was implemented, I believe the Aether was no longer fitting with the game. This is because once we got two new dimensions we were able to understand what a dimension is in Minecraft's sense. It is a completely new world with very few items from other dimensions. It is also not tied to a biblical allusion or any "good/bad" for that matter. The Aether has overworld like grass, trees, and mobs that look a lot like pigs/sheep/cows. The Nether and End lack these similarities to the Overworld. I think if something like the Aether were to ever be implemented, it should be added in the skies of the overworld, and not as a separate dimension.
Okay, so now that we have established my logic for believing originality important to a new dimension, let's compare the Aether and Frist. And despite my arguments in my prior post, I don't really take any issue with similar mob behaviors. I think my bigger worry with the Aether is how it has grass and trees. It feels like an extension of the overworld, in my opinion. Compare that to the Frist, which although it has snow, is home to all sorts of new items. There are no trees or green grass. Instead, there are dinosaurs and steampunk robots. I think it is introducing more to the game than the Aether, expanding the theme in new directions instead of circling back to the Nether.
Ultimately, this all our opinion. I think the divide between our ideas really comes down to whether we want to see an original new dimension that expands upon the themes of the game (with the understandable risk of it ruining Minecraft's simplicity) or an agreed-upon dimension that doesn't bring much new, but at the same time does not risk ruining the game.

Doesn't this ruin the concept of "peaceful daytime, dangerous nighttime?" Not that is always followed by Mojang, but in general, they seem to take an effort to make night time the time you are being hunted by monsters, and day time the time you can feel safe to walk around. Orcs roaming during the day might ruin that.

This is a good point. The major issue here is XP is used for enchanting. Could a better system be implemented in its place?
