More about myself: Mostly human, fruitcake. Work with computers for a living, fly kites & kiteboard, also read a lot (mostly fantasy, surprise right?). As for the game, I like to go work on my own, but help others out as well some times. To me, minecraft is just a way to relieve boredom.
Whether this will be a long term destination for me, I do not know. Just want to look around right now.
So I spent some time getting minecraft running within pacemaker (HA clustering software) in linux. The guide has all the information in it, but I dont have anyone to provide outside feedback on it.
Anyway, the guide covers the complete steps for getting minecraft up and running. HA clustering provides more peace of mind in that you (the server owner) can better handle failures should the s*** hit the fan. Basically in the setup covered in this guide, should a server fail for any reason, the clustering software (pacemaker) will bring your standby server up and start everything on it. The map, client data, your configs, everything will be preserved. It also provides the ability for you to upgrade minecraft on one server, then do a failover and upgrade the other server, so that downtime is minimized to seconds.
The main thing that needs to be done with the guide is to have it cover a more mainstream distro. I was thinking of CentOS, but was wondering what the most common distro people would be using with this.
I do currently have 2 VMs built that I can throw into a torrent if anyone wants (kvm/qemu), but theyre gentoo VMs.
So, if anyone wants to read, test, improve, I'd love the feedback.
Thanks

I'm looking for a server thats 90% vanilla. I've tried tons of servers that claim to be vanilla, but are nowhere even close.
Basically I want a server with nothing but anti-grief plugins (chest lock, player action logger, etc).
Things I commonly run into that I do not want are
- mods/admins that give themselfs unlimited items (dont care if its to build a public building or not, as it rarely stops at the public buildings).
- mcmmo (is there a single server that doesnt have this?)
- shortened night time
- stores that sell items you cant gather on your own
- no being able to teleport all over the place. I dont mind being able to change your respawn point, or a 'home' point you can teleport to, but nothing more than that.
It would be nice if there wer building restrictions, just basic stuff like no floating items, or 1x1 towers.

What is your interest in joining?: I played on aurora back in its infancy, but havent played MC in months. Coming back and looking at aurora because its one of the few mostly vanilla servers around.
Have you read the rules? Yes/No: Yes
Have you voted? (Link Removed)Yes/No: No (prefer to play and experience the server before voting for it)
My favorite word of the day is ARzy. Its a fun word.

Why you should join : I liked your rules list ( few servers that enforce griefing and the aesthetic appearance )
How long have you played Minecraft? : Since September, but stopped playing in November due to the state of multiplayer and lack of good servers.
Don't forget to read the rules! ( see above :-P )
Not to be mean, but unless its administered by Tek, its a bad idea. What happens when theres a problem with the forum server, or you were to go away, or any other number of things. Everyone is going to go crying to Tek, and he wont be able to do a single thing.
Having multiple people manage various components of a project like this is always a bad idea. Sorry to bring such harsh criticism.

Thats definitely hardware, and *looks* like memory corruption (though not definitely). Try narrowing it down. Pull sticks of memory and see if one of them is bad. Try replacing the video card if you have a spare as well. If not you might just try buying one from a store and then just returning it after a few days to see if it solves the problem.
I doubt its directly heat related (as in the GPU gets too hot), but it is possible the heat is causing the components to flex (minutely of course).
In short, too hard to tell, going to have to replace parts until you find the bad one.
Just wanted to update, this can be done. Basically create a series of not gates that delays the signal, then find one of the gates that's turning on *right* before the button turns off. Then connect a second wire from the button to that torch's wire. This way that torch gives power to the wire right before the button stops giving it. Follow this logic several times until you have a delay long enough for you
(the 10th not gate will be turning on right before the button goes off)
CONCLUSIONS:[alphalist=a]
[*:2dj1ftw5]The correlation is close enough to be either linear or quadratic; sample size is not large enough. The following constraints make continued data collection for these experiments undesirable at this time: iron supply & size of laboratory.
[*:2dj1ftw5]Unmanned mine-carts do not travel very far, and collision physics make them poor substitutes for powered carts. Iron cost of boosters for unmanned carts is too high to be efficient over distance. Video evidence (earlier in this thread) indicates an alternative is available.
[*:2dj1ftw5]High-speed passenger traffic is most efficient means of transportation; freight can be carried by passenger.[/alphalist]
I do not agree with this. I browsed at your numbers and was unsure what your variables are supposed to represent, but I disagree with the conclusion that boosters are ineffective for transporting goods. I can reliably launch carts down a track several minutes long. In fact I've never had a cart stop after just a short ways.
It completely matters how you get the 2 carts next to eachother. If you dont do it properly then yes, you get a crappy boost, but if you set up the track right so they align properly, you get tons of thrust.

Been trying to find a good server thats vanilla with anti-griefing plugins only, but with little success. So interested in giving this one a shot :-)

Thats it. Not asking too much here :-)

I'm kidding, I think some of you kids need to grow up :-P
Oh, and yes, server is unavailable for me too. Which is entirely why I'm here and not playing
