posted a message on 1.8 server crashing, skipping ticks

Same. 1.7.10 is always fine, both vanilla and Bukkit. 1.8 vanilla sucks and either lags or crashes all the time. The -nogui option doesn't help; that's what I always did anyway. Running on OS X Server 10.6.8 with Java 6. Not that I enjoy your misfortunes, but I'm glad this isn't only happening to me.

It's not my computer hardware. I'm leaving the servers running on the same machine, and 1.7.10 works while 1.8 crashes.

You can already get a player's IP address just looking at the log. In fact, every server of any kind (HTTP, SSH, etc) you connect to can get your IP address and store it if it wants to, and most of them do. You really can't do that much with someone's IP address other than blocking it. My IP address is already posted on various websites and IS the location of a website.

I like this idea. What if you're 10,000 blocks away from a stronghold?

    Support.

They're never anywhere near that far from spawn. Return to the spawn, then start using the eyes. You should never even look for a stronghold that could be 10K blocks away. If they never broke, you'd also be able to find the stronghold with just one (cheap). Though you can technically always find them with two if you're extremely careful.

I don't see what the cons or possibilities of abuse are. It's just convenience.

This would be better than Skype (as would most audio chat clients), only it's been suggested better and earlier.

So you effectively want enchanting to cost half the XP, but with the same initial investment of XP. They already made it about 1/8 as difficult with one of the updates; I think that's good enough.

This would just remove the challenge from the game. Besides, most people don't put torches literally everywhere so that monsters can't spawn, because they like adventure.

My town is already completely monster-free, but I wanted it to be darker. Creepers spawning in my castle isn't "adventure", but if I thought it was, I'd just not use a beacon with this power up.

posted a message on Should minecraft LAN servers have passwords?
    Quote from Megaloneus

I don't think an IP ban would do much against LAN griefers, as they generally share the IP.

No, they actually never share the same IP address unless you do port forwarding and let them connect to the school's public IP address. Within the NAT, they all have local (255.255.255.0 or 255.255.0.0 subnet) addresses.

I can't believe there's no whitelist for "LAN" games. Another reason why I just host a Bukkit server whenever I want to have a LAN party.

This is pretty pointless as it's super easy to use a proxy which would show a fake IP to the server owner.

No, it's not easy to use (let alone find) a proxy that'll let you send and receive traffic over any port you want. Most Minecraft players are probably 7-year-old kids.

There is a word called DDos. If you didn't know it consists of spamming packages to a certain ip. There is a command in game called /seen (player). This allows you to check what the players ip is also. :D

    But i disagree with /ip!

/seen is a plugin command, not a vanilla server command. There's also /ipm checklastaddress and such from my plugin :)

    No support.

What if they use VPNs or proxies to change their IP? And I'm pretty sure that if your IP gets banned from a server, and you make a new account, you will still be banned because the server has blocked your IP.

Obviously it's not perfect, but it's really annoying currently to ip-ban someone. And most people don't know how to use VPNs… in fact, I don't even know where to get one for free. You can't even ip-ban people without looking at the console without a plugin, and that needs to change. I made an entire plugin to deal with this because I was sick of not being able to check the IP addresses of offline players.

posted a message on Beacon Powerup: Monster Protection
It's really easy to monster-proof an area by lighting it, but what if you want it to be dark? The beacon, an endgame item, should be able to solve this with a monster protection powerup: no hostile mobs or neutral spiders can spawn inside the beacon's radius. They can still walk into the area from outside, though.

Someone might say that this is overpowered, but it really isn't. It's the same thing as using (considerably cheaper) torches, but it serves an aesthetic purpose. At the cost of a beacon that could otherwise give you potion boosts, you could make a dark mansion or something without worrying about it getting blown up by creepers.

So stupid. My entire whitelist is gone. I don't feel like converting it, if I even can. Can't it just do it automatically??? -_-

I understand that it would be easier for them to just stick with Forge, but installing LiteLoader and merging with Forge is as easy as running a simple installer. The benefits of using LiteLoader are also a lot greater, I wish more people would switch over to it.

Yes! Forge is a big headache for users too. LiteLoader is painless.

It's cool but I could see it ruining some Multiplayer games and such that involve dark areas... Does this Gamma Brightness work past blindness? I hope not.

Maybe it would, but so does using a bright screen. Just because I keep my screen dim to wear my eyes down less, I keep having to deal with dark areas others can see that I can't.
