Recommend making your camp near the village at least 128 blocks away from the village so you don't encourage mobs to spawn in the village at night if you're awake after dark.

When you're in the nether kill some blazes, make blaze powder from blaze rods, combine powder with ender pearls and make a couple ender chests to easily xport your stuff between house and camp.

posted a message on Lighting from torches does not prevent mobs from spawning underground anymore

I have a cave spider farm built around 2 spawners. The kill area is well lit. Since the update to 1.16 though mobs will spawn anyway. A creeper snuck up on me and blew out the block next to the water column, sending a spray of cave spiders into the room. Fun times! Guess it's time to build a smaller enclosure with a door around the kill area.

I think this is probably the easiest answer. Thanks!

I'm watching some spawner farm designs on youtube but can't figure out one thing. When they use water to flow mobs toward the kill area, how do you connect those water streams without air pockets caused by signs or whatever else you're using to block them off? Especially, if you have a bubble column to carry the mobs up you'll need signs or something to keep it in the 1x1 column; those will stop the water stream carrying the mobs a block before the column, leaving one open surface with no water.

posted a message on Is it actually possible to build a blaze farm in survival?

Drat, I'm already on my way to building the blaze farm. Starting with a box around the whole exterior dimensions with staircases on the inside and out. Haven't produced the pistons yet so...

I've had only bad luck with villagers in villages so far. The villages just slowly depopulate or zombify as I interact with them. Maybe I'll give it another try.

You're saying that the auto melon farm is integrated into the village?

Have you built a whole one in survival w/o using creative?

Youtubers: How to build an effective blaze farm in survival! Look at all these blaze rods!

Also youtubers: Just gna pop into creative here to show you how to do this quickly.

I found an accessible spawner not too far from a portal. It connects on one side to a huge netherrack overhang that should give easy access. 2/3rds of it is over a huge drop. I'm thinking of pillaring up from the bottom to build a platform under the build site.

Just got me wondering if anyone has actually done this or if everyone uses creative.

posted a message on What's the highest useful level of XP to have?

To my understanding, XP is useful for repairing tools, applying enchantments from books, and enchanting tools on the enchanting table. Is there anything else?

Is 30 the most XP that an action will cost?

I'm trying to figure out how to balance out my dangerous vs. not dangerous activities against my XP level. For example, if my XP is stacking up I'm less likely to play around lava or start an exploration of a nether fortress, choosing to build XP with easier activities until I have enough to apply whatever enchantments I want to. Are there any other considerations to keep in mind?

posted a message on Windows 10: how to build stairs or ladder down from the top of something?

If I try to crouch down a stair to place the next one I just end up falling off. Can't mount ladders from the top either.

In this case my portal opened over the ocean and I want to be able to get back up. There is land kind of nearby but I don't want to drop down and build all the way from there.

I assume the 128 blocks applies to the vertical axis too? I set up a cave spider farm somewhere under the village but haven't measured it yet. Of course I don't know what time it is on the surface (windows 10, no cheats), so if it's night and I'm killing spiders then I could be endangering my villagers yes? sounds like I want to make that fence and light the place as soon as possible.

Also, can occupation blocks go in any empty house? Furnaces and blast furnaces are already in non-burnable buildings but there is no cartographer's station, for example. Can I just put it in any house with a door and a bed?

posted a message on Possible? 3 levers w/ 3 repeaters, via one redstone path to 3 different outputs?

In a Pixlriffs video on a mob grinder xp farm (link below cued to time) he seems to use 3 levers with their own repeaters to turn on and off lights in 3 different rooms. It's hard to follow but he seems to indicate that the repeaters can be used to direct the signal to the appropriate room via just one initial redstone path. Is this indeed what's happening, and how does one accomplish it?

posted a message on Involvement with villages increases rate of zombification?

I found my first two villages. First one was quite small and with an outpost very close by so I traded a bit and left it alone. Next one was bigger, with a bunch of empty houses with single or double beds, and empty job stations. There were some kids running around. I set up a temporary base nearby, started mining, and made a dormitory type building with 2 doors, windows, torches, and about 10 beds.

While I was getting set up I noticed that many farmers would spend their nights inside one of the fenced gardens and the iron golem would do the same in a different one. During the time it took me to get set up a lot of the villagers were turned into zombies inside their houses so I blocked them in. I also buried a couple villager zombies I found outside and had to kill some others. The farmers in the fence disappeared, and now I can hardly find anyone walking around. They never used the beds I made for them.

When I went back to the first, smaller village it was doing just fine. All I can think is that my hanging around the 2nd village hastened its demise. Perhaps it was when I was out after dark?
