Why did this project just end? I’ve been looking for a map like this forever and the download isn’t here. Also I tried to play the first roads map and it wouldn’t load once I selected it in minecraft.

I would say it is paused (I know a pretty long pause), the main problem is that the RoadWorks mods were not updated which meant staying in version 1.7.10. That itself is not a problem for me, but it limits the abilities to build a city and means everyone that would like to help has to use the same old version.

I have currently installed the correct mods to start the map, which itself was a big hassle, because there is just one single forge version on 1.7.10 where this map with all mods runs stable.

The state of the city is seen in the pictures down below. Especially the coast line is completely bold and unfinished.

And...this project was really important for me and a lot of fun and maybe I will find the time to finish it and will definitely let you guys know here!

    New small update :3

The last few days, I've finished the highway mentioned one post above this one. It ends now at a three point intersection. As always, the detailed road layout is descrpipted in the spoiler below. I have to apologize that I couldn't use my standard shader for pictures (Sildur's enhanced default), the reason being flickering water textures. So today's pictures with slighthly more intense shader effects.

The 6-laned highways leads as mentioned above to a man-made dam. Beforehand the lower 3 lanes where secured with fences and my standard stonebrick-walls. Terraforming at this point wouldn't look nice.

In the picture below you can see the finished dam which I've built completely by myself and it should look as natural as possible

Afterwards the road goes above a stonebridge with arcs

For those of you being interested in how the bridge looks from below

After the bridge the end of the "Kraftfahrstraße" (freeway?) is near and with it the intersection. The speed limit is first reduced to 100kph then to 80 kph

Here is an overview. The road mentioned above is the one coming from below

As you can see I'm not 100% finished here, yet. As always terraforming was the most time consuming part, so that every road connecting to the intersection fits in the landscape

Below the bridge, the speed limit is reduced to 60kph because it is followed by a 270° turn

And up the hill. (At this point there was a hill but I managed to fit the road in the landscape anyways)

On top of the bridge the Autobahn starts and will lead through the forest. How I will manage to lead the roadway through the trees is something I'm thinking about for a long time :/

The opposite roadway is minimized to 1 lane as the country road L7 starts here. This is definetely a bottleneck

The relatively short L7 leads to the pass road B2 which was built over one year ago

    junction with the B2

This is also the point where the Kraftfahrstraße ends

If you have brought some more time with you, consider watching my new video featuring some of the new roads. It will also showcase the road system in my city.

Thank you for reading this update and I hope you enjoy my project :3

My last update was a year ago and I didn't built that much the last few months. Two weeks ago I started building a lot more and now I've created many new roads, that I'm going to show you down below and in the next few weeks in this thread.

Here is an overview on some of the new roads.

For those of you that would like to read the detailed road layout with pictures and a bit of text, here it is:

This bridge was there for ages but I never took the time to finish the highway on top of it until now

After the bridge is crossed, the maximum speed is reduced to 100 kph and then to 80 kph. After those signs is a steep slope downwards

The roadways are seperated and the one going downhill goes through 2 U-Turns

Afterwards a left turn with greater radius and an additional lane

Followed by Tunnel, which is partly underneath the roadway leading uphill

Inside the tunnel a right turn

After leaving the tunnel you are allowed to drive up to 100 kph. This is because the following curves have bigger radii

At the same time the other roadway leading upwards has one single S-Turn and 3 lanes to use

    Overview of this section

To come back to the point where you are allowed to drive up to 100 kph again: There is one left turn and a 180° right turn downhill

    Overview of the curves

Finally you are allowed to drive up to 120 kph because it leads to a long straight section

The other side is logically allowed to just drive 100 kph

I'm currently creating a dam. The road can be built on top of it.

I also did some work in the city. I built for example some emergency lays and also some lights to make this road safer.

And I'm also experimenting a bit with colors. Not sure if this stays as it is now

The long Autobahn tunnel was being made a bit more longer

Please comment your thoghts, criticism etc. down below and again sorry for being a bit inactive the last few months, more updates to come :)

Wrong thread I would say. All buildings have to be in vanilla Minecraft and I don't need Billboards. I currently just need skyscrapers.

    Hey guys,

the time has come, YOU can be a part of this project and create Community-City. (more infos in the thread)

I started to set the ground plan for our city and it is a lot of fun but also very challenging, because I don't want the typical square layout.

Here are some detailed pictures and text of what i've built in the last few days.

The five laned Autobahn leading to the city is split up into 3+2 lanes. The 2 lane section leads to the centrum:

The most important crossing (until now) connects the Autobahn with the inner city-ring, which connects all other smaller roads with 4 to 6 lanes in total:

    Typical crossing on the inner-ring

Overview (red marked ground plans are for skyscrapers or parks, yellow marked ground plans are for apartment buildings and family homes):

If you stay on the Autobahn, you enter one of the longest tunnels on the map:

After 3 curves in every of the 2 3-laned tunnels, one of the roadways leves the tunnel, while the other side stays in the tunnel:

I don't like the look of this section and I will surely change it:

    The tunnel:

Now also the other lanes enter the tunnel again as there is the coast-district above:

One of the most challenging creation is this intersection:

The right lanes connect with two simple ramps. To reach the left side you have to go through a spiral:

    Connection with the 6-laned inner-ring:

Car parks shouldn't miss in a city. Above is space for a skyscraper:

A new map overview is in the Thread. Here a zoomed version:

Finally, I'm starting to create the road-layout for the city and it'll be gigantic. When I'm finished with it I need your help, because it should be a community-city.

Obviously there are some highways leading to the city, one of them starts at the roundabout about 2 miles away from the (future) city

You can give suggestions for what I should build inside the roundabout:

    Here starts the Autobahn 4:

With 120 kph through the avenue:

The only tunnel in front of the city:

There are two S-curves inside it:

Afterwards the highway along the coast with an additional lane:

    Until we reach the crossing:

On top of the highway are some trees and tall grass. I think this part of the map may change a lot in the future:

    One of the exits:

    From the other side:

With 5 lanes in direction of the city. I will create many entrances and exits to the highway to connect every part of the city:

The third pass-road is now finished. In the spoiler is a detailed description with text and pictures.

The road starts in the high mountain region where it crosses the bigger pass road:

Another crossing connects another pass road. After it the road turns into a "Kraftfahrstraße" (translation is maybe expressway ?):

Not far away the first (and only) exit:

four-laned tunnel. Narrowing afterwards because it would be too dangerous inside the tunnel:

One of the tallest bridges, a simple version:

This tunnel has a u-turn and a slope...

    ...and another big curve:

After the tunnel are some hairpin curves. Speed limit 50 kph:

There is also a small dam under the road:

After this drivers are able to drive up to 100 kph and to overtake other cars:

    And another tunnel:

    With another curve:

Another hairpin curve and a small park:

Afterwards with 100 kph through the wide curve:

    Another tunnel and hairpin curve:

nearly at the bottom of the mountain:

The pass road will never get four lanes, I promise ;)

And the road ends in a crossing:

I'm currently building a third, smaller mountain pass road.

This one has just two lanes and is closed for trucks. There are also some more narrow curves and steeper parts.

Of course, tunnels are also there.

A four-laned expansion of the road is thinkable. It currently ends at the base of the mountain.

I love this map man, I know it's hard to make the roads all work, especially with so many different markings but you make it work geniously.

I've even seen some squiggly stripes on the middle of the road, and some creative use of sidestripes and normal stripes.

You're really giving it all you've got and it's so awesome that someone can use my mods like that with such skill!

    Thanks Thieves,

I wouldn't call that skill. I think experience fits more. You just learn to do as much as you can with the RoadWorks tool.

Ah you are back my friend! I hope this project lives up to the last one! Great roads.

Don't thank me, thank you. Without you guys this thread would be dead already :D
I'm pretty sure this project will last long and maybe come to an end sometime. But it's a longw way and building those roads isn't that easy as many may think ;)

I mean there is already over an year of work in the new map^^

Yes it can and I'm doing it already. That's another purpose for the map. I recommend the WMobility modification.

Small insight in what I'm currently building:

The pass road connects two addidtional pass roads in the mountains, so that all high mountain regions can be reached.

One of them has a car park which is for the hiker.

    Hello Minecraft-Community,

2 years ago I started my first big project "Roads in Minecraft". I tried to build the biggest and most realistic road system in Minecraft, which I think I actually did. To manage this I used the awesome mod RoadWorks by Thieves. I wasn't able to finish the road sytem completely until today. Reasons were on the one hand the natural generation of Minecraft that placed ocean biomes all over the map, on the other hand everything I did was a bit unstructured. But the main reason to start something completely new was the criticsm of the community that there are cities and other buildings missing on the map.

With "Roads in Minecraft 2.0" I try to do everything better. Before I tell you more details about the project, here a short teaser:

    Teaser

    Pictures

    more Pictures

    Details

-> The whole road system takes place on a gigantic island. That means I'll be able to finish the project in the far future.

-> The island is a custom map (link), which I personally edited very much with WorldPainter.

-> I plan to add free spaces in the map and create ground plans for cities. The community (yes, you too) will get the opportunity to create external buildings such as houses and I will add them with McEdit to the map.

-> All roads are as realistic as possible. Country roads and (I dunno if something like that exists in the U.S., I'm German :D ) Kreisstraßen will get as less tunnels as possible

-> I set myself specifications such as the road profile, curve radii, maximum speeds etc. (like in the real planning process)

-> All road signs (which are German ones) are created by myself and can be downloaded here.

    Be a part of Community-City

The time has come, YOU can be a part of this project. I urgently need buildings for the Community-City. It doesn't matter how experienced you are, I look at every building.

How do you participate? Just follow the recommendations below:

--> Create your building on one of many layout-flatmaps (downloads coming soon, currently just selected ground plans) or create your building on your own flatmap with fitting dimensions.

--> I need Skyscrapers, apartment buildings, family houses, parks and public buildings, such as restaurants, hospitals etc.

--> Create your building maximum 1 block in the ground and maximum ~100 blocks tall (as we don't want to exaggerate)

--> Don't go above the dimensions, build rather too small and fill the rest or let me do it. Skyscrapers should be directly at the borders.

--> Build with Minecraft version 1.7.10 or older

--> Send me your flatgrass map as pn or better: Create a Minecraft schematic for MCEdit.

I currently need buildings on these ground plans:

    30x30 --> Skyscraper

    27x30 --> Skyscraper

    21x30 (with edge) --> Skyscraper

22x34 (edges) --> Skyscraper (maybe with park)

Please use this thread to post your opinions and to follow my process. I will unregularly post updates. There will be no more a map download during the building process.

Thank you for your interest :)
