    Ok so here is episode 2, again we are moving kind of fast cuz I wanted to get caught back up to where I was. But today we go into the nether and build a platform at the bottom and get a blaze and nether skeleton farm set up.

    You need a chunk loader.... after you leave the spawn chunks they technically unload.... not really but technically. What I mean is a lot of stuff will stop working so what you need to do is set up a nether portal and a hopper timer that will shoot a item in to the portal every ~45 seconds or so, this can not exceed 50 seconds I believe. Here is a link for you, just add this and I am sure that it will continue to work for you when you leave the spawn chunks. Skip to 17:26 to see how he did it.

I use 4 pads that are 8x8 size each, with a 2 block wide, 2 block deep, water channel in between each pad. The hole in the center 4x4.     Reading tutorials I often come across diagrams like this: http://i.stack.imgur.com/DiCYC.png showing the spawn / movement ranges / despawn ranges of mobs around a player. But I've never seen a diagram or read a discussion about those distances vertically. For instance, <24, the range that mobs will supposedly not spawn around a player, is that 24 above a player as well? I assume so, since 24 blocks above me mobs are spawning.... so are they actually spawning 24 high and 1-8 blocks over, meaning the true distance from me is 24+ (solve the right triangle...8 squared plus 24 squared, square root of that, 25'ish:)), so it fits the rule in the image I linked to above?


    In other words, if I built my collection point ~4 blocks higher, would the spawn pads 20 blocks above me stop spawning?


    Just take that image and imagine that its a sphere and not a circle. I think you have the right idea
