flaminghawk83 posted a message on Netherrack LanternI've seen a few suggestions for lanterns. So I decided to come up with my own version; made with redstone!Posted in: Suggestions
Crafting:
On the top and bottom in the middle, place an iron ingot. Place glass panes on the left and right in the middle. Place netherrack in the middle. This will make 1 netherrack lantern.
Looks:
It is one block tall. It is 4 times as big as a torch in width. So you could fit 4 torches in it. It has an iron top and bottom, and the middle is glass. There is a small netherrack block inside. When it is lit, you can see the fire inside.
Lighting:
You light it by right clicking on it with a flint and steel. The fire inside will look like normal fire but mini. It will stay lit and will be a little bit lighter than a torch. You can turn it off by right clicking with your hand It is destroyed with one hit.
I know this seems OP, but think about it. It takes 1 netherrack (which takes 12 obsidian and 1 flint and steel to get), 18 glass blocks, and 6 iron ore. I think this is not OP.
Thanks for reading! Please check out my other suggestions, and give feedback on this one! I hope you liked this idea!
EDIT: I forgot to say. This can attach to the underside of bricks, walls, and floors.
EDIT: I'm sorry. I can't figure out how to post pictures I've saved, and I don't even know how I can create a picture in the first place! And, keep in mind, I can't download anything. I'm using my parents desktop computer. -

Ouatcheur posted a message on The Soul Urn (Survival Experience Storage)Once you have all the enchants you want, the item is useless anyway it is not a "new use for experience", what is the point of storing EXP if the only thing you can do with it is using it for things already done?.Posted in: Suggestions
So Soul Urn with exp in them are mob magnets? Sounds more like a nice bonus feature than a problem, really, because if you want to collect experience you want as many mobs as possible as fast as possible.
Seems more like a hunting boosting item than a true EXP storage item.
So if I just use my urns for decoration, but then while I am building I put out some smooth stone out of my furnace DANG suddenly my soul urn is a mob magnet? Uhhh...
Maybe the soul urn could collect exp only when held in hand? That would help builders not accidentally put experience in them, and make "experience harvesting" require to frequently switch between weapon and Soul Urn? Or at least in the direct inventory toolbar otherwise tat would be too frequent item switching?
Experience leak? 500 per Minecraft day? Dang that is a LOT. So it's a useless feature. Store Experience but you must use it ASAP anyway? also, it removes capability to make a "hall of glowing soul urns" merely for bragging purposes. Now THAT is a good use for extra Exp you don't need anymore. So no support on the leaks. No support on it not being placeable in chests. Sseems like what you are trying to do is "A container that boosts the player's use of his EXP, but can't really contain EXP".
The only way I see this item being put to use is this:
I collect experience but want to have several "30 level enchants" instead of leveling up to say level 40, so I can do more than one max-level enchant at a time, thus I carry a soul Urn or two, sacrificing that inventory space.

KyoShinda posted a message on Thoughts on new ocean generation?Posted in: Future Updates
The oceans were 16x larger than any other biome, that's just plain stupid. Like has been said, there's absolutely nothing to f'ing do in oceans(and even if there was, they don't need to be goddamn 16x larger than everything else) so there's no good reason against the increase of useful terrain and one can always create 'island survival' with mapping tools.Quote from Puredarkness
Meh, I liked the old oceans. Made the terrain look more realistic IMO.
Or maybe it's the nostalgia speaking. I don't know.
'But it annoys people'
People here always refuse new things regardless of if they add to gameplay or not. -

Retic posted a message on Zebras in Savannah BiomesZebras from the Mo' Creatures mod should spawn in the Savannah in 1.7. They act like the Zebra in the mod. I think it can be possible because Horses are in Vanilla. Zebras from the mod, were a different variant of a Horse. And in case anybody here don't know the origins of Horses, they used Horses similar from the Mo' Creatures mod, with DrZhark's help.Posted in: Suggestions
Zebras... They can spawn more common in Savannah biomes, but can spawn a little more often then Donkeys in other biomes. They have the normal Minecraft texture theme too, so it would have the same resolution as Vanilla. As well as the Zorse. It should be called the Zebroid instead though. Because in real life, breeding a Horse and a Zebra creates a Zebroid. It is obvious: If you have a Zebra and a Horse breed, you get a Zorse. Same color as the Horse, and the stripes from the Zebra. This was a feature from the mod. Zebroid's/Zorses can't produce offspring, like their real life equivalent. The Zonkey is a spawn when a Zebra and a Donkey breed, it will have the Donkey Texture with the Zebra Stripes, like how it is in the mod. I'm not sure what the real life cross of a Donkey and a Zebra is. Also, you can simply find a Horse with stripes rarely. If it was spawned with stripes, the stripes will have a different pattern then the Zebra and Zebroid. This thread is not redundant. Search up "Zebra" in the search area. See anything? I don't think so. Surprisingly never suggested. This fills in. -

Gastroid posted a message on A new way to end the Rose/Rose bush conflict!Remember when food outlines were removed? How about when ladders were changed, or when pigs gained snouts? Remember when item durability was buffed and sounds were changed and changed and changed again? Remember many of the three dozen retextures that have happened over the past three years?Posted in: Recent Updates and Snapshots
Pick one of those controversies and champion for either side, because it's controversy of the week either way. For each of those people complained and complained and complained and offered middle ground solutions, but by the end of the week people moved on to the next thing to freak out about and nothing ever happened and people adapted.
The way to end the rose conflict ("conflict" meaning half a dozen topics with the same point to them on this forum alone) is this Thursday, when some new change comes around for people to bicker about. No compromise is as effective as moving forward with more for the loud to go after.

OvusOvus posted a message on I don't like refined minecraftWell, refined items like flowerpots can also be used to allude to other types of non-existent items in the exact same way that we've been using pressure plates and stair blocks to allude to things like chairs and tables. I like the new items, as they are relatively subtle and creatively malleable. There will always be things we still don't have, but each new item gives us a new shape or color to make pretend with.Posted in: Discussion -

SuperSaiyanSquidward posted a message on Anyone getting a slight uneasiness with this update?Posted in: Future Updates
Well, I hope PvP does get ruined. That's all I ever see on YouTube. hunger games, Hunger Games, Hunger Games!, HUNGER GAMES! There's too damn much PvP.Quote from Taizz
With the new sprint options, everyone pretty much has a sprint-toggle.
If you don't play on a PvP-focused server, then you won't understand how much of a deal this is.

Gastroid posted a message on I'm not happy that roses are gone.Posted in: Recent Updates and SnapshotsQuote from Spaceboot1
YOU might be happy, but that comes at an expense of a feature that I like. If all the features were in the game, then we would all have what we want. That's what I mean by making everyone happy.
You can't make everyone happy. You can only make changes with the goal of making most people happy, with a few standouts who always have a problem with any bit of change. -

LegoShokwave123 posted a message on Water on fast graphicsPosted in: Recent Updates and SnapshotsQuote from scrubking
I like this change. It makes bodies of water more mysterious, and if you drop something in water you actually have to look for it instead of seeing it from a mile away.
I think it should vary though, with swamps having the most opaque water (dirty) and other areas having cleaner more translucent water.
But it is only on fast. By Notch, if the people on fast have to have so should the people on Fancy. This is not game breaking, but it sure is bloody annoying. - To post a comment, please login.

Welp... Vanilla is changing, so, and I'm really not trying to sound like a jerk, people are just gonna have to deal with it. This is now vanilla, for better or worse. Either mod it if the changes make it unplayable for you, or downgrade back to what you personally consider 'vanilla', since they've given all of us that option to play ANY previous version of the game we want. I don't understand why people who hate all changes to the game and think everything new is a mod, don't just... not update? The new launcher lets you do anything you want and remain on Beta 1.2 forever if you prefer. If you don't want the game to be updated, you have no reason to complain. And on the other hand if you DO want to shoot laser bows while riding every My LIttle Pony character with your hot creeper girlfriend in a purple spaceship that flies to Mars, you have no reason to complain either, because there is probably a mod for that.
Sorry, it's just kind of completely wrong when people claim that any small change makes the vanilla game 'no longer Minecraft' or 'now it's a mod'. Thaumcraft is a mod. The Poppy is a texture update for an outdated texture and nothing more. o_o Give all the feedback you want, you're entitled to your opinion and even to let Mojang know your preference, but at least speak in a factual manner about it and don't exaggerate things out of proportion.

"Hodor" spawns you on a cliff overlooking a plains valley with a nice village in it. There were horses and donkeys right at spawn and the smithy chest gave me some gold horse armor. For fun I made a high-rise apartment building out of the really tall glitched house.
Whee, it's a long way down....
Edit because I just found this:
Seed and coords
Spawned in a forest with a nearby Ice Plains, just flew across that biome and hit this one.

Too rugged? What should we expect, every biome is a magical green fairyland of happiness or something? I don't get this description, LOL. If it went the other way and all the new biomes were like... Candyland, Sparkly Rainbow Forest, Verdant Meadow of Pink Ponies or something, people would be complaining that the game is 'too pretty,' 'not hardcore enough'... people complain about the most random things, I swear.
And to be exact, there isn't really a need for anything new they could add, the game is functional (enough, needed bugfixes excepted of course) as is and people have played it happily up to this point. Not to mention it doesn't matter what the heck they add, someone somewhere will still ragequit over it for their own unfathomable reasons. We didn't NEED any flowers at all, much less the assortment of new plants added in this update, but I for one am extremely happy to finally be able to customize my home environs and gardens with harmonizing colors. So personally, I feel I 'needed' these new flowers, but I'm sure plenty of people either hate or could care less about them.

Personally I am excited, to me the terrain looks much nicer overall (it could always use improvements here or there) and I've wanted more flowers for a very long time. I don't have any really negative feelings about this update, I'm looking forward to where they are going with it. If anything, I certainly can't see the game getting worse from any of these changes.

The problem may be that this thread is kind of playing the role of 'semi-official' popular thread on 1.7 additions, so uninformed readers may take what it's saying as gospel truth (then after 1.7's release, the forums will be spammed with a million "OMG Fire Jeb he failed us by not adding the PROMISED SKYLANDS!!1111!!!1one!" whining threads.) Also, stating in giant red letters that everything mentioned is definitely a confirmed addition and 100% true, means people are going to call you out if they disagree with that.
