Maybe the complainers on Twitter were going about it in the wrong way.. most of the complaints about zombie mechanics I've seen haven't been saying they should be totally removed from the game, only adjusted, scaled to difficulty, or nerfed/removed in Easy mode only. I play on Normal on a private SMP server and while the zombies can be pretty annoying and I wouldn't mind them being tweaked if Mojang wanted to do so, it's not a huge issue for me because I'm already established in the world. I still don't think 6 year olds or grandmas playing on Easy should necessarily have to deal with it, though. I've experienced them as a tree-punching character starting a new world on Easy and found it to be excessive for that difficulty level.
Try this seed: 826751510
You spawn in a taiga, just walk down the hill and over the swamp area, there is a plains biome less than 1 or 200 blocks from spawn and it has absolutely more horses than any one player could deal with. You can probably collect just about every color of horse because there are so many of them. As soon as you cross into the swamp, you should be able to look just over the ridge and see horses standing around.
Just an example, the biome is pretty huge and almost every area of it contains horses. I found a herd of 5 donkeys as well.
As a bonus, there's a very accessible zombie dungeon just under the surface near a little pond in the middle of this plains, it gave me 2 name tags. Seed has a few other cool things like a nice desert village, nearby witch hut and epic compound ravine/mineshaft which I haven't fully explored yet. I've found a few other seeds bearing horses near spawn but this one had the best yield.
I'm still experiencing this. I've read a couple threads before, some people said it was actually intentional and this one says it's a bug. Which is it? You can't manipulate a lead in any way unless you are holding 2, but you will only actually see one in your inventory. Really confusing at first, I'm not sure why it would need to work this way.
I'm glad someone analyzed this as I would never have the patience to do so. Hope Mojang might raise the chances of improving upon traits, as it does seem counter-intuitive that you get lesser horses from doing more work... I guess you can improve really poor horses by breeding them into your random superior stock, but there ought to be at least a slight chance that the traits of parents will 'stack' just a little.
We're building a horse farm/breeding facility on the private server where I play, and I'm just hoping to breed somewhat-improved stats into preferred color horses with bad stats. Although, if you breed 2 really good horses it seems you can get a decent result at times. I have a VERY fast solid black with 8 health and a decent jump, bred to a grey pinto with really good jump, great speed and 13 health. The foal came out as fast or nearly as fast as the black, very good jump and 12 health, so that produced an overall improved solid black horse. (Although, the only method we currently have to measure speed is to race and see who gets there fastest.)
I have a paid account but right now I'm having a problem with my ISP. I ws able to play offline offline 2 days ago, and never logged out of that profile. But when I came home yesterday, my password was blank and I couldn't log in. Apparently I will have to go use someone else's wireless to even be able to play at all in the next week. I find it frustrating that the game could log me out and if my internet connection is down at the time, even leaving the "log in automatically" option checked did nothing. I can't find anything to explain this despite having seen other posters with a similar problem.
I'm having the same problem as 2 above posters, no option to play offline-- with a difference. I was able to do so yesterday and never logged out of my profile, but today my password was cleared out and I couldn't log in. A profile I hadn't even used in days gave me an offline option but nothing I tried could get the other profile to work. This is a paid account since Beta 1.4, I need to play offline because of a week-long problem with my ISP. I'm posting this from my phone because it is just so frustrating and silly.
We got the same messages about mobs being in the wrong place around missing chunks, until it crashed the server. I can't seem to find a lot of posts about this and am wondering how many other people are having the problem.
My gf is the one who owns the server, I don't actually have console access so some of this is posted on her behalf. Our server has been up for a while and never had major problems with the updates. This is what happened: I opened up MC right after 1.6 update and took off to go on walkabout searching for horses. I believe I generated totally new terrain. This is the area in question, which loaded normally on my first pass-- I walked through the mountain, placed a few torches, and moved on.
The next (IRL) day I played again, and returned to the area to find the mountain split up by 2 missing chunks/chunk errors like so. I thought no big deal I'll just log out and back in and they will disappear. I did this about 4 or 5 times and also tried unloading/reloading the chunk. Notified the server owner who came on and tp'd to me, the errors were also visible on her end. Eventually the server crashed and she tried restoring a pre-1.6 backup, but reported that the same errors exist even in backups made BEFORE the affected terrain was even generated.
This is the support ticket/server log she submitted to the host (who could not recommend anything other than backdating to 1.5.2, but I fail to see how that would help if the errors are persistent in the world even on a backup):
Our server started experiencing missing chunks that would not be fixed even by logging out and back in again (like normal chunk errors are). The log file had these lines in it:
2013-07-03 08:24:52 [SEVERE] Chunk file at -124,-74 is in the wrong location; relocating. (Expected -124, -74, got -121, -73)

I noticed a couple of other posts about similar errors, but wasn't sure if exactly the same thing is occurring here or not. We are kind of... totally stumped about what to do with this world and can't figure out what went wrong. Nothing really happened as far as server activity, other than me wandering around for a while and placing a few torches in this mountain, now the area is totally unplayable. Why would the backups appear to be affected in exactly the same way? Is it a bug related to 1.6 servers? I hope someone understands what is going on.
*I should also note that both of us generated the world anew in 1.6 SSP, and didn't find any problems with the area. I'm not sure if that is relevant or not but thought I'd add it because it's something we checked out. Also, the server plays normally until the affected area is entered, but the 'end of stream' error messages still come up in the log.
*Edit: Since I don't have access to the console, I misunderstood something I was told. A backup was restored and the server was backdated to 1.5.2, but as of yet we haven't deleted the world outright and uploaded a pre-1.6 save. I'm not sure exactly how this works or why it is different.
Honestly, I'm surprised that anyone wouldn't want them to remove these changes from the lower difficulty levels. As it stands now, there's very few differences between Easy and Hard. I would think that all these people that want Minecraft to be a hack and slash game would actually RATHER the changes only be to hard mode, so they can brag and say "I play the game on HARD!" and have it actually mean something.
I kinda feel like they should also limit the new potion/gold apple nerfs to Hard as well, for the same reason. If Hard isn't that much of an extra challenge, what's the point of having difficulty settings? Again, none of it affects my playstyle to an extreme degree or to the point I am completely raging about it. I just don't think it makes a lot of sense to have it work exactly the same way on Easy as Hard/Hardcore. It's kind of weird and overly simplistic. (I feel the same about the skeletons' ridiculous rate of fire, fine for Hard but stupid on Easy.) The people who like these changes the most would likely have been playing on Hard or Hardcore already. It would make it more 'special' that way.
Count me with those who think these changes should probably be scaled to difficulty. I'm not a super hardcore player, I usually play on Normal and when I tested out the snapshot, the zombies weren't particularly difficult, per se. But the starting out and making a base aspects were a little too extreme for Easy, in my opinion. I've played since 1.4, I shouldn't have this many near death experiences on Easy in such a short time. It's going to be painful for noobs or more relaxed players, and little more than annoying to anyone who's already established and armored up. Zombies literally spawning 2 blocks away from you (as happened to me) is a bit ridiculous. I kind of liked the added dangerous feeling of 'I need to get back home, the sun is setting!' and don't have a problem with them tweaking the mobs a bit, but... now it's like the difficulty settings have no meaning.
And repetitively beating up a million zombies is still not all that dangerous unless they happen to have backed you into a couple of skeletons, or something like that. Personally I'd rather do something else in Minecraft than constantly wear out my sword on a steady stream of zombies...
Our server is having this exact same problem, apparently... I'm glad someone else has experienced this. The world was loading normally yesterday. Today I returned to a particular area to make a temporary camp, and the mountain was ruined by 2 chunk errors. Logging out and in several times, as well as leaving and then re-loading the chunk and restarting/re-updating the server, did nothing. I also had a couple of weird occurrences where I logged back in a few hundred blocks from the point where I logged out, and restoring a backup of the server relocated me to my previous position, but duplicated inventory items and duplicated my dog*; the chunk errors remained persistent. Server crashed after the attempt to load a backup, and had to be taken offline.
(*Perhaps not-- I initially had two dogs, one died to creeper. I logged out with my remaining dog and was restored to a previous position with 1 dog, but I don't know if that location was reached before or after the other dog was killed. Either way, when I returned to where I had logged out, it was as if the server had never been backdated, as my dog and other placed items were still there, some duplicated because I was carrying items that had been placed in the chest. Not sure if this has anything to do with the chunk/mob errors or not.)
So far the only seed that's given horses for me is "Secretariat". I found 5 adults and a baby at x: -361, z:1310. Been trying out a lot of seeds with little luck.
So true, I will ragequit MInecraft forever if they don't add grullo, silver palomino, true albino and Knabstrupper spotting!!!1!
Nah for real, I'm really excited by the amount of colors they added. Even if some look a bit weird compared to natural horse coats, it just adds uniqueness. They look fine to me, not that I would complain if they added more colors. Blue or red roan would be great.
Paleo era.... Dinosaurs.... Only like 60 million years difference there... Bad name, sorry.
There is no 'Paleo era'. (Perhaps you were thinking of the Paleozoic?) "Paleo" is in common usage as a prefix to indicate prehistoric things, such as 'paleo-art' and is perfectly appropriate here. Source: have been a paleonerd since the age of 4.
More on topic, these models look pretty nice and I will be interested to see how things go...
I'm on WIndows Vista and can't even download the launcher. I am at a total loss. It's supposedly been successfully downloaded at least 5 times, to different locations on my computer, but searching those areas or folders manually, and doing a search of my entire computer, doesn't turn up the file, or any file with 'minecraft' in its name that was recently created or downloaded. I've googled this and searched the forum but can't find anyone else who had this problem, so maybe I'm somehow being an idiot... but I'm at my wit's end.
Edit: tried disabling the link scanner in AVG and tried again, but the file still does not exist on my hard drive after 2 supposed completed downloads. I'm not getting any errors in anything, there is just literally no file...

(I feel the same about the skeletons' ridiculous rate of fire, fine for Hard but stupid on Easy.)
