posted a message on Microsoft/Mojang Deal Confirmed.
What's with the melodrama around here over a business transaction? The same people who were throwing tantrums over the so-called "new" EULA are the ones now crying because they think Notch "abandoned" them personally and ruined their dreams/sold their firstborn/et cetera. Is it nice to have confirmation that the ungrateful behavior of this community helped make this decision a reality? As if any of you would have turned down 2 billion dollars to be rid of the often-hateful complaining of millions who were never satisified with their free, 100% optional updates. Ideals are nice to have, but we're all mortal and have our own price.

Also, I thought this was Minecraft Forums, not Psychic Forums (home of predicting the future based on little to no evidence of anything!) Me, I was gifted the game in 1.4 beta, have played it ever since and will continue to hang around and see what happens. I'm honestly curious how it's going to work out. My friend paid 20 Euro for something that's given me countless hours of fun for 3+ years and even brought me closer to someone I care about, which is priceless to me. I don't feel cheated in any way.

Notch clearly wasn't cut out for this job and realized it some time ago. I'd probably feel the same in that place so I can't blame him, even if he has more money than I'll ever see in ten lifetimes.

posted a message on Mojang, I am not a little girl...
So, not having arms the width of your thighs makes you a woman now? Huh... some people have a strange idea of gender nowadays.

That said, I got the impression that players will eventually be able to choose. It's just the pre-release and they are testing this out.

Yeah, now that I think about it, the time inbetween my dismounting the horse and the server crashing was probably brief enough to indicate that it was this same bug.

In any case, I'm now extra super careful with my good horses on multiplayer.

posted a message on My horse disappeared? (Now with MORE Problems!)
I won't be depending too much upon leads until/unless they are fixed. They still break when re-entering a chunk and allow horses to wander, so my horse corral on the server has a double wall around the actual pen in case they glitch out somehow.

I've also had a horse literally vanish from the server along with its lead. I had attached the horse to a post and started to enter a cave 3-4 blocks away, when the server crashed. It hadn't been there more than 30 seconds and wasn't anywhere in the area when we logged back on. After that experience I don't use leads to hold horses in place unless I have to-- we built small holding stalls at any bases where horses are used, instead of just having hitch posts. I've heard of the bug where they disappear if you log out while riding them, but not this one.

posted a message on Pigs are getting more useless
It doesn't bother me either way, but what if pigs had a chance to have twins or triplets (litters?) from a single breeding? Real pigs can have a lot of babies, so it's a bit odd they only have one. Might make them more economical as a food resource.

The only other pig products I can think of are rendered fat/lard or bristles, and I'm not sure there is a point to either of those right now. Truffle-hunting or something similar is also an interesting idea.

posted a message on How do you feel about rabbit meat?
It's just pixels, I can't see an issue with it when you can already eat cows, pigs and chickens (and zombies). I've kept fish as pets and cared for them for years, but I have zero problem eating fish.

Also, from a more global perspective, not every culture lives in a place with arable farmland or resources to never eat meat. If you live by the sea, you have to eat stuff from the sea; if you live somewhere that is ice and snow 80% of the year and you can't get imports, good luck being a vegan, etc. There's nothing wrong with not eating meat if you're able to and want to, but for economic and logistical reasons not everyone is able to do that. Therefore it's silly to be judgmental across the board of what people eat to survive. Rabbits are very economical to keep and breed and they're not an unusual food source at all. It's just not as common in some regions. I don't know why people have to bring their personal cultural prejudices or discussions of racism into this anyway, it's irrelevant.

posted a message on [14w17a] Custom World Generation Presets! (Post your Best ones here)
I was really happy with this result:

    {"coordinateScale":1183.9015,"heightScale":684.412,"lowerLimitScale":810.6972,"upperLimitScale":881.10565,"depthNoiseScaleX":200.0,"depthNoiseScaleZ":200.0,"depthNoiseScaleExponent":0.5,"mainNoiseScaleX":1444.3732,"mainNoiseScaleY":160.0,"mainNoiseScaleZ":1373.9648,"baseSize":8.5,"stretchY":12.0,"biomeDepthWeight":1.0,"biomeDepthOffset":0.0,"biomeScaleWeight":1.0,"biomeScaleOffset":0.98591554,"seaLevel":63,"useCaves":true,"useDungeons":true,"dungeonChance":50,"useStrongholds":true,"useVillages":true,"useMineShafts":true,"useTemples":true,"useRavines":true,"useWaterLakes":true,"waterLakeChance":4,"useLavaLakes":true,"lavaLakeChance":80,"useLavaOceans":false,"fixedBiome":-1,"biomeSize":4,"riverSize":5,"dirtSize":33,"dirtCount":10,"dirtMinHeight":0,"dirtMaxHeight":256,"gravelSize":33,"gravelCount":8,"gravelMinHeight":0,"gravelMaxHeight":256,"graniteSize":33,"graniteCount":16,"graniteMinHeight":0,"graniteMaxHeight":80,"dioriteSize":33,"dioriteCount":17,"dioriteMinHeight":0,"dioriteMaxHeight":80,"andesiteSize":33,"andesiteCount":10,"andesiteMinHeight":0,"andesiteMaxHeight":80,"coalSize":17,"coalCount":20,"coalMinHeight":0,"coalMaxHeight":128,"ironSize":16,"ironCount":20,"ironMinHeight":0,"ironMaxHeight":64,"goldSize":26,"goldCount":2,"goldMinHeight":0,"goldMaxHeight":80,"redstoneSize":8,"redstoneCount":8,"redstoneMinHeight":0,"redstoneMaxHeight":16,"diamondSize":8,"diamondCount":1,"diamondMinHeight":0,"diamondMaxHeight":184,"la ize":7,"lapisCount":1,"lapisCenterHeight":16,"la pread":16}

(Please note: I cranked up the dungeon and ore spawns because I thought it would be amusing, those who want to play this seriously may want to edit those!)

The result was an overall very hilly world with a lot of water (maxed out the size of rivers), where dramatic features like big overhangs, floating islands and mountains close to y:200 are common, but without sacrificing lowlands or playability. The terrain has more of a gradual slope down to ocean level (which I didn't alter, because I chose this seed due to a water-level village I found earlier) so the 'extreme' stuff tends to look more organically placed in the environment IMO. Makes a lot of nice watery caves and repeating terraces too.

    Images:

    Makes some pretty sloping shores

    and crazy terraces/islands

Village on 2 levels, close to spawn in this seed ("NANI SORE")

Flatter sea-level land is available inbetween the broad hills and extreme stuff

    Water-filled swamp caverns are interesting

posted a message on Bug- When i create a customized world type, the game will not load me in. It just is stuck at "generating world."
I got this too with one of my customization attempts, and when I restarted the game I couldn't even delete the bugged world, because just selecting it caused it to start loading (and subsequently stall forever/crash the game.) Guess I'll stay away from that lava ocean preset. Although I thought I had enabled it on another world that played normally... must be mistaken.

posted a message on In the New Breeding System, Is Villager Populas Still Bound by the Three Door Rule?
I wouldn't mind that as a trade-off, it was already silly having to make villages look horrible and cluttered by spamming doors everywhere. I haven't really traded that often in survival, mainly I've built up village populations just for fun and for a building project. Will have to hurry and populate our big mountaintop village before 1.8 arrives, if they keep this change.

posted a message on Questions About Horses
I'm not sure if this is the maximum, but the highest number of hearts I've ever seen is 15. And I've only found one of those very recently-- previously the highest I saw was 14 and those were pretty rare, if I find 13 I consider it very good. 8 is the lowest in my experience.

Yes, I hate this "feature". It's counterintuitive and not conducive to feeling like you are in a world that has realistic lighting. It ruins any screenshots looking out from a house or cave and makes it nearly pointless to have a nice sunset view window. I don't understand at all what they were trying to do with this effect, if in fact it was intentional.

posted a message on The Mojang Team Should Play Terraria
    Quote from Divinius

I never said you couldn't implement things in a way that wouldn't really affect the game. You probably could.

But if you were going to add content that didn't have a significant impact, why bother adding it at all? And if it DOES have a significant impact, then for every person that likes the change, you'll have anywhere from 1 to 10 more that hate it.

Bottom line is this: Minecraft doesn't need to add elements from other games to be good. And adding elements from other games can go one of two ways, either it doesn't affect anything, or it affects some people positively and others negatively.

This whole conversation started because I made a simple comment that "I wish people would stop trying to turn Minecraft into 3-D Terraria." While the OPs suggestions were innocuous enough, there's been countless threads on these forums that have been far worse, with suggestions that would truly alter the type of game Minecraft is. That's all I'm really against, the addition of things that would kill the adaptability of this game. Its adaptability is its strength.

There is a problem with the forums, I can't give these posts enough likes.

Seriously though, it frustrates me a bit when people claim that 'there's a mod for that' is an insufficient solution for any complaint that anyone has about this game... precisely for the reasons you've laid out here. That's just the kind of game Minecraft is, its open-endedness is the largest part of its appeal-- and that's also exactly why people have such different and passionate ideas about how they want to play it, IMO.

posted a message on Horse saddle problem
Your best bet in my experience is to find a desert or jungle temple. Found 4 saddles once in a single pyramid. I still think it makes no sense for them not to be craftable, but if you explore for a while you'll eventually have more saddles than you need.

posted a message on The Mojang Team Should Play Terraria
If they did this, we all know that the "Omg Miencrfat its an RPG nao RAGERAGERAEG" crowd would just flood the forums with more screaming and whining about wanting their simple nostalgic game back. Face it, Minecraft in vanilla form will never totally satisfy everyone 100% of the time. It is not possible.

Personally I like the fact that it's non-linear, as I don't find any real satisfaction in going through a prescribed escalation/route to pre-planned goals that are basically meaningless. At least I feel like I did something creative if I built a house or planned out a cool transportation route in MC. That's just me, though. There are already plenty of games with linear advancement, bigger and badder bosses, tons of weapons, etc.

I also think some of the fancier mods like Twilight Forest, Project Zulu, Thaumcraft, etc. add this sort of challenge to the game in a way that's more suited to Minecraft. I CAN defeat the TF Lich King or flood my world with flux and spend all my time fighting off horrible wraiths, but I don't HAVE to in order to enjoy the game. I can go tackle a dungeon and get advanced gear when I feel like it, at my own pace, or I can just not go in that dungeon at all if I'm not ready for it.
