As an adventure map creator who's sick of having books stand in for dialogue, I would absolutely love this. Support.

    • IGN: Eljacko
    • NAME: Jack
    • AGE: 16
    • SKYPE (IF YOU HAVE ONE): I'd rather not say.
    • BIO ABOUT YOURSELF: I'm an avid player of games and writer of trashy unfinished hack novels.

    • CHARACTER NAME: Jeremy Myrcomb
    • AGE: 28
    • JOB: Journalist
    • BIO ABOUT CHARACTER: Jerry Myrcomb was born in Manhattan to an upper-middle class family. Too weak for manual labor and too lazy for learning, he excelled solely in creative fields. In college, he earned his degree in journalism with flying colors and, upon his arrival in the real world, was disappointed to discover that he wasn't as good a writer as he thought. Now he's a columnist in a small-time Lakewood magazine, struggling to make ends meet and overcome writer's block.

Eljacko swore as he sliced another tentacle off of the clanking iron monster he was fighting. The clash of iron against iron reverberated across the beach. Eljacko gasped as, with a surge of strength, the monster he was fighting overpowered him. It pushed him onto his back. Eljacko lay beneath the large, flat body of the creature. Noticing that the creature's stringy underbelly was unarmored, Eljacko summoned all of his will to drive his sword into the creature. The iron walker shuddered and collapsed on top of Eljacko, pinning him to the ground.

"Help!" Eljacko screamed, struggling to disengage himself from the dead monster.

As he lay trapped on the ground, Eljacko watched Marcus, who was off to his right, fight a losing battle. Marcus was wrapped in tentacles, their iron plating cutting into his skin. As Eljacko looked on in horror, crab legs emerged from the sand, iron-plated as well. They rammed between the tentacles, swiftly impaling Marcus and dragging him under the sand. Moments later, no trace of Marcus or the monster that had killed him, remained.

[There you go, Scat. Hope that was dramatic enough for you. Also, Magnax, you can't just say "she" did something. You have to use your characters name, or at least have a subject, or we won't know who you're talking about. Pronouns don't work when they're not referencing an already established noun.]

I've been playing Minecraft since fairly early alpha, and I spend most of my time in singleplayer building different settlements and basing stories around them. I'm a super-geek and avid roleplayer. Paradoxically, I have never seen Dr. Who. My builds are often influenced by medieval architecture and Studio Ghibli films. I'm used to spawning blocks, but I enjoy roughing it in survival every now and then, when I get bored of creating for creation's sake.

"Sorry," Eljacko said to Petro, "But this is my only sword." Eljacko drew his rusted katana as he waded out of the water, swiping at the creature closest to him. It was massive and crab-like, with three tentacles rising out of its back. With a flick of its tentacle, the creature slashed Eljacko's leg.

Eljacko screamed and raised his katana. The blade was wedged between two of the iron plates on the tentacle. Eljacko pushed the katana, leveraging it against the iron plate. The plate flew off, revealing soft muscle. Eljacko hacked the tentacle off in one quick swipe.

"Try shooting through the cracks in the 'armor'!" Eljacko shouted to Petro, as he continued fighting the enraged, now two-tentacled entity.

[I don't understand anything Mag just said.]

Eljacko paused for a moment, wondering if it was physically possible for something to make a *GRUNDGE* sound. Before he could decide, a swinging metallic tentacle popped out of the beach, spraying sand in all directions. It came down hard on the ship, ripping it in half.

The tentacle crashed into Eljacko, its segmented surface cutting into his skin. He was hurled bodily into the water, into which he briefly disappeared. By the time he got his head back above the surface, the tentacle had burrowed back under the sand, and strong tremors rocked the landscape. Five iron beasts burst forth from the sand, bar the sixth with which Marcus was struggling.

With clanking and hissing, they attacked.

[Just for the record, I'll allow this now, but in the future please note that you can't just make other players do things without their consent. You can TRY to act upon them, and OOCly they can decide if it succeeds or not.]

Eljacko considered Marcus's suggestion, nodded, and brought the hilt of his sword down on the forehead of the fisherman, knocking him unconscious. Eljacko knelt down alongside the knocked-out captain, and proceeded to rifle through his pockets. He began tossing random knick-knacks over his back: a fishhook here, a tiny pocket bible there, and many little spools of yarn, all drawn from the fisherman's pockets. Eventually, Eljacko pulled a small journal from the fisherman's inner coat pocket. It include a detailed map of the islands surrounding the mainland, along with a series of observations about local wildlife. There are several X marks on the map, which indicate particularly excellent fishing spots.

Eljacko took the opportunity Petro had given him to step on the captain's arms, pinning him to the ground. Eljacko lowered his katana to he captain's neck. "I don't think I'll kill him just yet. Not until I'm sure we're definitely going to take this method. What do you say leader?" he said, turning to Eshar. "Say when!"

Eljacko clapped sarcastically. "Walk five days to a mountain of fire to summon a giant monster in order to open a portal to reach another island, eh? What an idea. Here's another idea. What about if, and hear me out, we kill the fisherman and use his boat to get to this island. He's clearly trying to get us killed anyway."

Eljacko took a swig of rum and pulled out his katana. "It would be easy. I could do it right now if you'd like. He's just over there." Eljacko pointed up to the helm of the boat. The captain was there, shouting at Eljacko to get off the boat and shaking his fist.

Eljacko smiled to Petro, "Jack is fine, thanks. I don't have any wine, but I have some rum and Old Peculier ale. If you're alright with either of those, then drink up, but otherwise I have nothing for you."

Eljacko reached both hands back into his knapsack, drawing them back out with a bottle of rum in one hand, and ale in the other. "I had planned," he said, "To purchase and put aside a few bottles of fine Chianti, after cashing in my latest bounty, but regrettably that became...impossible."

Eljacko shot a glance to Eshar and scowled.

Syrup, can you tell us what problems you're having? That way some of the more knowledgeable forumites will be able to help you solve the trouble, whatever it is, and speed the mod along the way to an update.

    This is true.

I don't understand people like you who actually seem to think that writing something like that will make ChocolateySyrup (or anyone else) give you what you want...

I don't think that it will make Syrup give me what I want. I never did. But I've been very concerned over this mod, and I want that to be fully understood.

Because we do not have the luxury of having Minecraft be the most important thing in our lives.

I think whining, pestering, and making a huge deal about video game mods that have taken a few days too long to update is far worse.
It's not the end of the world. Mods often take time to update, especially when Notch throws out uncoordinated patches and gives little indication of additional changes -- even moreso when mods rely on third-party tools that also need to be updated before work can even begin. Updating a mod for the twentieth time is a tedious and frustrating experience with little reward. If you are so against having to wait for updates, stop using mods.

Vib and I have been looking to pass off the code so that the responsibility of updating every time Notch patches Minecraft will fall to someone else. We've just about finished what we want FancyPack to be, though we will be filtering it even further into more optional packs so that people can more precisely pick what they want to add, but other than that FancyPack is basically "done". We want to move on to other projects but constantly having to perform maintenance on these existing mods while fans impatiently demand there's no reason we should be doing anything but what they want us to do is an obstacle that must still be dealt with.
If we can find someone proficient enough and willing to maintain the code we'll certainly be passing off the responsibility of updates to that party.

I'm sorry if my impatience is ruining your life, but I, and those who are relying on your mod, have been unable to update. And the update to this mod hasn't been days overdue, it's been weeks. Two weeks, roughly. Two weeks, unable to update or use multiplayer because this mod has been neglected. It's not like our complaining is affecting you but this mod not being updates is affecting us. Updating without this mod would mean trawling over potentially miles of land, replacing the empty holes left my Fancypack blocks with inferior default versions, a process that could take ages. And that just SSP. If its in multiplayer, loads of people could lose loads of work, having to fix every single build into which they incorporated Fancypack which, considering how all-around useful Fancypack is, is probably all of them.
