posted a message on server run as root
It's never a good idea to run any service accessible from the outside world as root because if they find an exploit the the server, then they can do a world of pain.

    World of pain may include:
    - Steal account details
    - Delete server data
    - Install a rootkit and login as much as they want

    Hi people,

:brick: :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick: Linux Restarter Script :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick:
As I have seen a lot post auto restarting scripts, i have found a lot failed to restart due to the server not removing the locked server.log file and reliance on the execution script not crashing (preventing the auto restart).

Not sure if there is a better, similar or exact solution already available, but I'm just going to post my solution to this and provide a very reliable script that has worked for me without any issues.

    Version 0.1

(Need to test it on non a non modded server).

    1. put the keep alive script onto the server.
    2. Edit the file and change the configuration to suit your setup.
    3. Ensure the minecraft server cron has permissions to execute the script
    4. Test it to ensure it works by uncommenting lines

    #mail -s 'keepalive.sh is running fine.' $ADMIN_EMAIL < /dev/null

    5. Ensure to save the map and warn users, and run the keep alive script by typing in "./keepalive.sh"

    6. If all is good, add the following line into your minecraft servers crontab by typing "crontab -e" then add:

    # Check every 5 minutes to make sure the server is still run
    # TODO, read logs and find specific warnings that freeze the
    */5 * * * * /home/mineserver/keepalive.sh >/dev/null 2>&1

(If can change the 5 to whatever number of minutes to check the server to see if it's live).
Then save the crontab and wait, you should receive an email saying the script works or if your server is offline, it should send a restarting email and obviously restart the server.
    7. Once you are happy with it, recomment the uncommented success else statement.

:brick: :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick: Windows Restarter Script :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick:

As my old Windows box gathers dust, I've decided to un-dust the batch file I was using, clean it up and post it on here as well for all those who are running their Minecraft server off a Windows box. Although not as foolproof as the Linux script, it still should restart the server in most cases when it goes down.
    Version 0.1

    1. Put the batch file onto the server in the same directory as the Minecraft_Server.jar or Minecraft_Mod.jar (for hey0 mod servers).
    2. Edit the file and change the configuration to suit your setup.
    3. Run minecraft.bat

Let me know if you have any issues installing, configurating, running, suggestions or additions for them.
