This is true, but those pistons are supposed to work just like these, except for the lack of launching entities, just with different skins and a different name. The only thing that will happen at upgrade is that the current pistons will disappear. Everything else will still be in place, like circuits. all you have to do is add the new "pistons" in.

Do we actually KNOW that they will work exactly the same? the way pistons are powered currently is unlike any other block or whatever. I like the way it works, but I doubt that they will actually work the same way. for example the ability to power rows of pistons with just a line of redstone. I'm kindof doubting that my machines will work with these new pistons. From reading Jeb's twitters they seem totally nerfed. And yeah why delete the launch entities thing, thats one of the coolest things about this mod.

Hippo, we will always need you.

Hey guys. I made another door, this time is 5x5 and it took a while to figure out. Let me know if you like it :biggrin.gif:

NOTE: I know that the wiring on this could be more compact. This is the "first draft" so to speak, so I had to actually figure out the timing. I could redesign it to be smaller, which I may do.

What can I build with pistons? I am out of ideas.

    So far, I have built:

    An elevator

A room with a bookshelf that can pull down to reveal a secret path, and it totally hides the bookshelf

A bridge machine (automatic bridge maker made with cobblestone machine)

A bridge made of cobblestone (NOT sand or gravel) that goes up or down in lava, revealing or hiding a bridge

A machine that shoots sand into the air in a wave formation (However, the sand is on fire)

What can I do next? I can't think of anything else.

I have a serious challenge for you or for anyone who is interested. This may actually be impossible (not sure) but I would like to see someone make a 4x4 door that pulls in (away from entrance) then moves out of the way. i have made a 3x3 door that does this, and a 4x4 that doesn't (pull back first). I think it is possible, but my few attempts have failed.

    Here is my 3x3 door

    and my 4x4

maybe these will give an idea of how to start on something like this. I'm at a loss at the moment and am working on something else (5x5 door :biggrin.gif:)

EDIT: some guidelines for this "challenge" disregard these if you want but they are kindof what makes the door awesome... or at least a real challenge

    1. the hallway leading too and from the door way should be unobstructed
    2. no holes in the floor of hallway

so basically you need 16 pistons behind the door to pull it in first, then you need to remove them AND the wiring that powered them as well as the door itself.

I need some help. I have watched videos of the mod, and people have activated pistons like this: (BIRD'S EYE VIEW:)

    :Yellow: :Yellow: :Yellow: :Yellow: :Yellow:
    :Red: :Red: :Red: :Red: :Red:
    :: :: :RFlower: :: ::

( :Yellow: = Piston, :Red: = Redstone, :RFlower: = Redstone Torch)
How do I activate a line of pistons like this? It doesn't work for me in-game, but I have seen it in many youtube videos of pistons.

    it works like this

Hey guys I made another door! This time it's 4x4 and opens very quickly (compared to the others I've made). This is also pretty simple, there are no gates or anything just timing and some contortions to power things multiple times. I also discovered (maybe?) that sticky pistons are inherently sticky now which I believe is new. So now if you pull a sticky piston with a sticky piston the block in front of the front piston pulls too.

:Yellow: :sponge: :Yellow: :White: -> :Yellow: :Yellow: :White:

:Yellow: = piston :sponge: = extension :White: any block they can normally move

I love this mod it just opens so many new possibilities for building stuff. I just built an automatic aimable piston cannon with this :wink.gif:

Very cool man. really great stuff. It's a shame it takes so long to fire but thats how these things go as you said. maybe i'll take a crack at designing one, that looks like it was a good time investment though haha. anyway :Diamond: for the profound awesomeness

First of all SO HAPPY THIS MOD IS BACK! Hippo you are the MAN.

I created this a while ago, actually I had just finished it when Notch updated so I couldn't record it!

An updated (better) version of my vault door. I decreased the foot print a bit, and made it more of a box. I also changed the order of how the door opens so the center block gets removed before the door completely opens, I think its got a nicer look. In terms of the design this one is a lot more complicated it has over 40 pistons mostly sticky, some of which have to be powered twice at different times or different periods of time! One of the really cool bits in this is the signal programming circuit thingamaboob that nosanity invented, I used this in this device basically just cause it's cool, it has much greater capabilities than I implemented here. his video
NOTE: i used glass so more it would be easier to see whats going on, obviously if you wanted to make this with say wood it would look a lot cleaner

Hope you guys like it :laugh.gif:

Also, I'd suggest looking into the new launcher, as well as creating back-ups every stable update of Vanilla jars.

Wow, seriously awesome tool thanks a bunch man, now I can post that updated door thingy i've been wanting to :laugh.gif:

So this might be a stupid question but how can I go back to 1.5? It updated automatically so is there anyway to stop it? and is there anywhere I can download a minecraft.jar thats 1.5 for osx? I don't care if this takes forever to update if I could just go back

wont be in 1.7 either. 1.7 is adventure mode as far as I understand.

    where did you hear that?

Okay, I posted this a few pages back and before the forum change, and no one has seen it apparently. Can someone please show me how to build a 3x3 stone door with the sticky pistons? I'm not just talking about a door that slides one block to the left or right, I'm talking about all nine blocks moving completely out of the way. If anyone can post some pictures or a video or a save file that shows me how to build a 3x3 stone sticky piston door I thank you in advance.

hey man, I actually made this a while ago, my version is actually more complicated than it has to be cause I wanted the door to pull backwards first NOTE the 3x3 door is at 1:00 min into the video i show 2x3 first
I have since made an updated version which is a little quicker and has more of a box footprint, instead of the really long on in this video. It also uses nosanity's signal programming pistons idea (amazing idea) i also added a lock and it opens in a nicer way. sadly i can't show it cause the game updated before I could record it and i have no idea how to go back

Here are some wiring things you guys may find useful. or obvious, either way

a nice simple way to power 2x3 at the same time and it's expandable

    here is 3x3

    and 4x3...

This is a different device that may be useful for something. It supplies power to the sticky piston for as long as you want based on the repeaters by the piece of glass then it shuts off again, you can then have the power come back on the same way or briefly as I have here.

ok so i made a true castle gate system that comes from the top and then goes back upward. Check it out.

nice, i think this could be automatic? so 2 button operation? :smile.gif:

Yes it can be but it will be pretty complicated to create the circuit to do the proper timing. Which I will be doing, just havent yet.

yeah the wiring for something like this is really complex, I know cause I just made something like it.
yours should actually be easier to wire cause all the pistons are much farther apart, so you won't need to delay the charge as much as I had too
