well, sort of...it's a patch not really a mod. I used the piston mod for a really long time before they got added to the game. It just makes the pistons launch entities again, as well as making sticky pistons pull blocks without having to retract.
Basically you could have about 800 repeaters and make this door and it would take 5 times longer to open. So yeah, I enjoy making stuff but I don't need/want to spend hours and hours laying redstone.
from what i see (unless they hotfixed it) that this works by,
--------[lit redstone]
[piston]
[piston] [lit redstone]
so the piston gets pushed up into the already lit redstone which activates the other piston, rinse repeat andthere you ahve your door...
right?
Edit: wait no that woudnt work since pistons dont fall down after being unconnected to redstone... D'oh... maybe this could be used with obsidian to push the piston down after it reached the height limit? er wait... that would just destroy the piston, right?
If I understand what your saying, no, it's like this
= redstone = repeater, ::Logs^: = (an block that can be powered, = piston
the entire chains of pistons are powered from the sides with torches. the columns i show where i say this is how you send the power up and this is how you send it down are how the pistons are powered. nothing is destroyed.
Made a simple 6x6 sand door, which works pretty well.
I decided to use hippopotamus' patch so pistons are buffed (or at least un-nerfed). Basically it just makes life alot easier, not having to extend and retract ten times. I'm pretty sure some of the wiring I did could be a bit more smaller but it works well so whatever. It is as fast as it can possibly open and close.
I tried and tried to make a 6x6 door with normal blocks, but it's simply impossible (please prove me wrong).
Let me know what you think... NOTE: I've never tried to voice over a video before so if it's terrible give me some pointers thanks.
I've been using pistons since the mod, and I may have (not sure here!) made the first 5x5 door with them. Which you can see here . This doesn't work the same way in with 1.73 pistons, however as I'm sure you all know its still possible. I've been messing around with them alot and it seems that making a 6x6 door is impossible.
I hope to be wrong, but I can't figure out a way to do it. Some ground rules though.
1. There must be (at least) a 6x6 hall at the door entrance and exit. So no obstructions.
2. No holes in the floor.
As far as i'm concerned it doesn't have automatically close, it can be manually reset. However if it can close thats cool.
Basically I'm curious to see if anyone else has been trying to solve this and what they think.
This seems to be an easy(ish) way to take the bottom to layers of the door off.
This is how you would remove one of the bottom two layers to fit the third in.
Hey folks, seems that this thread is dying which makes me sad. It now only gets comments like "I have an idea for super cool idea for a door, where like pistons open it!!1!", and "your mod is being added to the game...delete this thread.", and other stupid %^#* where people obviously can't see that the thread has 189 pages...wow. ok end rant.
I made a new video and this time it's totally worthless! Well, it's fun anyway. Even if there is no reason to make something like it.
Presenting the Dropping Sandcastle.
there are a few minor mistakes in the video, but it takes so long to reset I put it up as is. So yeah this basically just looks cool, I know there is no reason to bother with making this.
Black thanks... you scrwd up my game,
couldnt you say that you need to backup your game?
wow. just wow.
Guys it really should be obvious that you need to back up your game if you are using any mod. I actually managed to destroy all of my save files in this last update (1.6). BUT, because I backed up the only file I care about it didn't matter.
I ALSO was having all the same problems EVERYONE is raging and complaining about constantly on this thread, but i didn't whine or post stupid comments. I just deleted ALL of my minecraft files (except my saves) and redid everything. and yes it works.

The simplest was to do the top three layers
Opened
So how do you get the 3rd from the bottom?
