Be prepared for a very time-consuming endeavor. People don't realize how many sheer hours goes into making a pack, and you rarely ever truly finish. Every update you need to get back into the game, and many people have been at it for a few years now and their packs still aren't complete.

Turns out I never updated my external work folder with the converted version of my resource pack. Yey, I'm stupid.

I have already ran my pack through the converter... Maybe my work folder isn't parallel to the zip I'm running... Man that will suck. I'll have to check when I get back to my PC.

I'm not having trouble finding images, but rather the blatant discrepency between my pack file names and vanilla:

So I unzipped the most recent snapshot of Minecraft and I noticed almost everything has been moved around and renamed. I guess they're doing some type of naming conventions, though some are just downright silly.

Either way, I noticed my resource pack was still loading images, despite the fact it's not up to date with the filenames.

I can't really seem to find any information about what is going on. Do I need to rename all my files(I already reorganized them into the right folders, but I haven't touched the many items/ and blocks/ image files yet). Did Dinnerbone mention this? Can I just leave the files the way they are or eventually will it cause my pack to become out-of-date?

Waaaait, what? They renamed a boatload of stuff?

All I noticed were the normal fish being renamed. Shows how much attention I've been paying lol. (too much fun texturing the flowers I guess)

    Notice how bow_pull_0.png is now bow_pulling_0.png ;)

However I just loaded up Minecraft and realized my item images and such are still working just fine... so I am confused about what to do here.

Also I checked MCPatcher and they didn't have any news about this new renaming stuff and didn't see anything about it. I don't know if I should bother renaming all the items/blocks since they're working or what...

I feel podzol would look more appealing as a biome sort of stuck in the season of fall, with all the trees and such and leafy ground. The idea of drawing nasty/ugly grass doesn't really strike me as something I'd like to see in a biome.

I was really amped to get into this and start making the new textures for the new snapshot. Lots of fun items... but then I unzipped the jar. Dinnerbone has decided to completely rearrange and RENAME almost all the files. I spent an hour rearranging and renaming most of the files, only to open up blocks/ and items/ to find out he has renamed a good majority of those as well. Probably 100+ files to go through.

This completely killed my motivation. I'll work on the textures I guess, but I have absolutely no intention of going through all those damn files and updating them. A ton of file renames were just god damn silly(wither_skeleton.png renamed to skeleton_wither.png, wither_fire.png renamed to wither_shooting.png). Then there's images that aren't moved where you'd think they would be with this new format, such as spider_eyes.png not being in entity/spider folder.

Is there something floating around that fixes this or

Despite the fact I am completely against the mentality of selling my resource pack or charging others to use it... I find it pretty god damn funny that everyone feels you can't sell your packs on here because that's not why you should do it. If someone wants to do art for a living they have every right to do so and not be judged for it. Many people work as game devs which includes doing art for games, and people expect good art for the games they pay for. Yet people are pushing out quality resource packs with graphics on par with the graphics you'd see in those very games people paid for(that artists got paid to make graphics/textures for), yet people expect it for free. Why does anyone else feel the need to tell others why they should be making resource packs? If they want to make resource packs for a profit then they have every right to do so... and they will not do too well because of how many amazing packs are out there for free. But they have every right to fail at it(just not here, because of the reasons I mentioned before).

Reasons why people can't sell their packs should have everything to do with the legalities/complications, not because people want to enforce their ideals/moralities about art/resource pack making on others.

I think artists should have the right to charge... and they do. But these forums should not be used as a store for your packs. Nothing is stopping you form starting your own site and selling your pack from it. Many artists just do it for the love of art/Minecraft, but it is a very tiring and involved thing. Most artists put hundreds of hours into their pack, and when you have a job and other commitments it actually becomes very exhausting.

However the biggest issue would be the issues that come with resource packs already: theft and all the sharing going on. Once money becomes involved it makes it a much more serious issue, and it's already probably hard enough keeping order with ad.fly and donation links. But when people use ad.fly/donate they're not buying a product. But when they outright pay for a resource pack then it's tricky. What if someone uploads a stolen pack and charges people for it? And it gets taken down... what happens to those who purchased it? What happens if someone actually legitly sells their pack, but it's broken and people complain? Scamming would also be a huge issue. I highly doubt the staff/moderators want anything to do with that.

Hey, great to see you still updating the pack, it is awesome.
Also are you still planning to finish everything that is not done yet? (Such as mobs?)

I have no plans currently, just haven't the time. It's hard enough just to keep up with the essentials(blocks, items...), not to mention they seem to release new mobs faster than I can make them.

However the new resource pack update is looking awesome. You'll be able to load multiple packs, and prioritize them. That way if you enjoy DustyCraft you can load it in at the top to get all the blocks/items and then load another pack after it to let it fill in the rest of the missing graphics, like mobs(I suggest Wayuki's pack if you want awesome mobs!). It definitely takes a bit of stress off the shoulders of pack makers to constantly maintain their packs for fear of falling behind and their packs no longer being usable. Now if you like a pack you can keep using it and find another nice pack to fill in whatever graphics you're missing. Kudos to dinnerbone.

Hi I really like your pack and I'd like to port it for pocket edition, creation credit is yours, I only modify some blocks (color change mainly) to make the PE exclusive blocks, could I have the permission?

Go for it, as long as you don't profit off of it(ad.fly or the such). Linking back here would also be nice :)
