I'm not the best mapmaker or anything but here goes: Maybe you could add a path through the area using some scattered obsidian or some other complementary block?
So now for something totally different - Intersection markers:
I added...

below each name of each area. Seem worth it, or should I remove them?
I always like it when maps have these type of things in it actually (like the colored sheep to indicate how many wools). I think it especially helps when a particular wool may be especially well hidden or whatnot. So I vote keep it!
Ok so I've decided to put my 16 wool map on hold for a while until I can get it better planned out to make it more interesting and fun to play etc etc.
So in the meantime I'm going to be making a mini map and I was kind of wondering what everyone prefers. Do you like hardcore mini-maps or not? Do you like ones that play out in one or two hours or that can last a little longer?
Personally I'm leaning towards hardcore and about three wools with a short playtime.
I just got done playing Rugged Horizons with my cousin(great map btw Skeeto I really loved it!). I'm looking for my next map to play with him. I preferably need something easier like Rugged Horizons but preferably escalates into a little bit of tougher difficulty. Any suggestions?
[CtM] Tyrannical Turf: Mythic Waters, by DinosaurWizard
As an open-world CTM, I like using several smaller islands instead of one big island. Dungeons were fairly simple in design and visuals, with occasional heavy handed spawners. Beacuse it's outdoors open world, some of the areas are more easily bypassable, but that's the nature of this style map. There's a bit of back story in books, although a little too explicit in telling us where all of the wools are.
Thanks for the feedback. What you said here is synonymous with how I was kind of feeling about my map. I'm happy in that it was a good learning experience and that I actually made it but not very happy with how it turned out in the end. I do have ideas for other maps and hopefully I can only get better.
What do you guys do when you look at awesome maps and feel like yours is kind of pathetic? Because that's how I'm feeling right now looking at all the newer CTM maps that have been coming out.
Hey I'm having aesthetic problems and I need help!
and from another angle...
I don't like how plain the walls look but when I add different blocks around they just tend to make the area look more cluttered then it already is. I was thinking of adding a bunch of bushes and alien like plants around the sides but I don't want it to look too green either. Ideas?
P.S. sorry. I forgot to hide the HUD when I took the screenies.
Currently recording this first of the CTM Podcasts with kingkaider and theawesomeonehhh!
We're going to be talking about 3 maps each episode, this one is Desolate Dreamscape by kaider, Inferno Mines by Vechs and Rugged Horizons by Aimoskeeto!
We've mentioned our favourite/least favourite areas of each map, and basically had a discussion about each one!
Oh, and we mentioned GI Joe a bit >.>
Should be up soonish! We'll see how long it takes Kaider to upload it!
Thanks everyone that responded. Last map I made I didn't think too carefully about loot and I just kind of slapped it down. The other day though I began playing UT 1 and I was really enjoying how balanced the loot felt (atleast up to Intersection 2). So I started thinking of how to get that kind of enjoy-ability in my own map.
I tend to build the area first, then place loot when I fly around looking at it to make sure there aren't any issues. One I test the area (or areas up to a certain point), I'll adjust the loot based on what I needed during that point in the runthrough (but not exactly what I needed, so the loot isn't personalized for me).
For mine im doing loot after. Maps almost done, And theres not 1 proper loot chest in the map XD
I'm probably going to end up doing a combination of these two. Build everything and put in resources without loot then do some "survival runs" and see what I absolutely need in areas.
How do you guys plan your loot out in your maps? Do you build the map first then run back through and place loot (what I'm doing right now) or do you just put it down as you go?
@Dino I use the filters- you have to close MC to use Kamyu's, plus it malfunctions for me half of the time. For mass positional data & stuff like that, Kamyu's is probably better, though.

ok thanks guys! I think I've got it figured out now
