Enjoying this so far. "Spread life" motivates me more than "survive" as an objective.
Since I was just playing SkyBlock, I took something of an aerial style, as you see. The base of my building is entirely obscured; I had to add overhangs to prevent spiders from climbing up.
Each platform is dedicated to a crop. I have had less than stellar luck growing spruces, so I haven't built their platform; they're sharing space with the beeches.
Jungle trees give so much wood per tree, but they don't grow all that fast. I was lucky to get one at the end of day two -- fifty logs will get you a decent way into building. But the beeches really took off early, and once I got the oaks going, they started growing into a giant hairy mass that takes ages to cut down. But at the moment, apples are my only food source.
My tests show that you effectively can't get beyond standard speeds in SMP. Any faster and the server stops acknowledging the hits, which means you end up taking just as long or longer to destroy blocks. In other words, I'm not going to be able to give you guys fast mining in SMP. The best I could do is give all tools a speed of 4. This isn't really an improvement over standard equipment.
The durability changes work in SMP, though, so you at least won't have to spend resources on creating tools.

I'm having a lot of fun with this.

I'll see how a factor of ten feels with superpick.

I got tired of my tools lasting all of 0.3 seconds and getting me halfway through cobblestone. FTFY! This mod makes tools last forever.
It interferes with Superpick, so I've included fast (superpick speeds) and slow (normal speeds) versions. Use whichever you prefer.
I don't play multiplayer. This mod might work on multiplayer. Give me $20 and I'll make sure it doesn't.
