    Don't do that,

This sucker only costs me $300 and it can play Minecraft at a steady 40FPS with: Optimine, Java 7, and the drivers from ATI's website. It also plays TF2 and Garry's mod at med-high settings.

Well I can see why it cost only 300$, actually it shouldn't cost even that much. 2,3Ghz Single core processor, wow. You get that 40fps with minimum settings?
Also, having windows 7 64-bit and 2gb of ram is a bit alarming. It will work but again slow it down.

    So don't buy that...

No, I get 30-40 FPS on fancy, normal, and the new lighting system thing. And yeah, I was dissapointed with the single-core, didn't see it. I am running fine with the 2GB of RAM, but I will upgrade eventually.

I think you just edit your first post and you can change the title.

The command I use to run Minecraft is
    java -Xms768M -Xmx768M -jar minecraft.jar

Or also I just right click on the minecraft.jar and do run with Java runtime blah blah

    On my mom's sucky netbook...

I'll post from my super fast computer tomorrow.

It is internet speeds not computer speed.... Unless, of course, the netbook is using some old wireless adapter and the super fast computer is wired.

The following failed but I still like:
    OpenSUSE
    Ubuntu
    Kubuntu
    Linux Mint
    Some others

PinGuy is also really cool, it has most everything needed for a good Live USB

    @Joe
Does it have the same CPU and GPU?

I am impatient with getting stuff, but if it is worth the $40 or so dollars I will probably go with the ProBook 4525s

EDIT: I'd save $40 because I have a deal where I can get it for $360

Eventually I'll get 4GB of RAM and if I get the second one I'll get a 7200RPM hard drive.

So 1st one is better because of the CPU and HDD? I think the 6310 has better benchmarks then the 4250, but I'm not sure, but it is also a dedicated card

What about the RAM? I think 2GB will be fine for awhile until I upgrade. I will most likely go with one of those or the other, because they are cheap. I am just not sure if that 1.6GHz processor will be able to play Minecraft and maybe Garry's Mod.

    Hello,

I have recently been looking at laptops, and I want to make sure I get one that will do everything I want it too.
I have a budget of $430-$440 maximum but I want to spend $400 or less. I want the laptop to be able to: Play Minecraft at like 25+ FPS, Play Source games (GMod, CSS, HL2) at 20+ FPS, and basic tasks.
So far, I want to buy one of these two
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834157532 - I know this will perform to my expectations as I've seen many reviews

    Today I found this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834215057 - I am not sure about it, isn't a lot of reviews. It has a less powerful CPU then the previous one, but it has a dedicated GPU.

So, any comments or whatever? Suggestions? Main thing I want it to do is play Minecraft while I am on the go.

    Thanks for your time,
    Dewaffler

Minecraft, and video games in general, aren't destroying our youth.

Bad parenting on the other hand... I could fill a book with how American parents these days need to man the hell up and learn to tell their children NO.

    Exactly.

I believe my parents are good parents, they know how to say no and have taught me everything I need to know.

Aside from that, I admit I play video games and spend WAY too much time on the computer. There is actually benefit, though. As I spend lots of time on the computer, I am constantly learning things. I actually learned a lot of spelling from playing RuneScape and other games that involve reading. Even though I spend 80% of my free-time or more on the computer, I still get good grades (GPA = 4.0) and I love to read, I do my homework, and I believe I am mature and have good grammar and a good vocabulary.

As the person I quoted said, parents need to learn to say NO.

posted a message on Is 123Systems a good place to get a vps?
Hmm I happen to have a 2GB VPS and am running my Minecraft server on a 3GB VPS. I have had a decent time with 123Systems, thought they are def. BUDGET hosts. They do oversell to the highest possible on their nodes, so if you use more then the dedicated amount of RAM you will def lag. Also due to overselling they have horrible I/O (disk) speeds.

So ONLY buy this if you have good knowledge of whatever OS you choose, I use Ubuntu 10.04/9.10
To solve lag on their VPS:

    > Run server on a RAMDisk (guides on teh internet)
    > Don't use more then your dedicated RAM

posted a message on How do you deal with griefers?
On classic: I had the MCLawl mod which could undo any users construction/destruction for the past x days/hours/minutes/seconds AND you could find out who placed what.

On beta: I don't give my IP to a lot of people, or when I do I'll keep a close eye. When I do have griefers I can't do a lot about it.
