A slime spawns in my tunnel at bedrock level. It's not a spawn point for them - I dug the tunnel. I think they need a large area, near bedrock level, and light(?) to spawn. I was playing on peaceful also.

From tales I've heard, those have been the recipe for a slime so far. I'm gonna test it out to see, but still unsure about it.

Lantern helmet sounds like fun. Plus, torches in hand light up your surrounding as well.

But I totally agree with torches go out. Makes you use them more sparingly... and also enables more chances for panic mode.

    EDIT:
Oil would be nice, but I picture oil spill and fires be far more likely, plus the LOLs of oil touching a lit torch. XD

Having a /whisper or /shout function would be great. Allow conversations to be more realistic, instead of hearing comments from someone elses cave a good 100 m away.

/whisper NAME text = send a private message to NAME-ed person
/shout text = A global message or announcement.

All normal chat has a range of 50 m.

And yes... worm sign the likes god hasn't seen.

Sandworms would be interesting. Be busy mining dirt and then... *rumble rumble* AHHH!!! Sandworm: ROOAARRR! *nom* *nom* *nom* *RESPAWN* !!!

I can see it tunnel through sand making small 1x1 passageways, hostile during day and night. The only question... how would the sand replenish itself. Eventually, it would eat all the material it would dig through.

Personally, to solve this, it would only DISPLACE the sand, shoving it up one meter from where it is... so you would see a ripple in the surface of where it is.

And it's size could be determine by the area found in. A small 20x20x3 sand pit might have a small one, while a desert (100 x 100 x 25) might have a huge one, maybe 10 meters long

Stairs should be deployed with the steps facing the player at the time you deploy them. Holding SHIFT or CTRL or ALT should rotate them LEFT, RIGHT, AWAY from the player respectively.

+1 for this. I would like more control over the placement of stairs.

Different types of ships were already suggested.
For simplicity sake, I would aim for a barge like ship. Two small boat with a chest on one of them.
A 1x2 ship with a small storage box (9x3 slots).

I like the idea... can personally see the crafting as such.

posted a message on Ropes for deep chasms
I believe rope can add a lot more function to the string.

    [] :|: [] (with :|: being rope )
    [] :|: []
    [] :|: [] = a coil of rope of X quantity... probably 3 or 4.

And lets say you have a stack of 5 rope. When you use it to repel... by activating it on near an edge, it sends a line of rope till it hits another ledge, or runs out of rope.

Quote from ROPE EXAMPLE (Repelling) »
    A.
    :Notch: [] []
    :grass: :|: []
    :soil: :|: []
    :soil: :|: []
    :soil: :soil: :soil:
In this example, Notch use his Rope(5) on the ledge, and it only required 3 to reach the bottom. Thus he has 2 pieces left over.

    B.
    :Notch: [] []
    :grass: :|: []
    :soil: :|: []
    :soil: :|: []
    :soil: :|: []
    :soil: :|: []
    :soil: [] []
    :soil: [] []
    :soil: [] []
    :soil: :soil: :soil:
In this example, he used all 5 pieces of rope, and it still didn't touch the bottom. So poor Notch will have to jump the rest of the way.

Pros: Rope doesn't have to connect itself to a wall like a ladder. Ropes can form instant-ladders. For quicker exploring or spelunking. Destroying the anchor (with hand only) keeps the rope in one piece, and removes the rope ladder... (anyone climbing when it does happen, falls.)
Con: It the attached block is destroyed, the entire ladder falls apart. Maybe only 1/2 the pieces involve in creation survives. A sword or axe can cut it, causing a chuck of it to be destroyed, while the piece connected to the anchor stays in one piece.

As well, a creation of a grappling hook could occur.

    :Iron: :Iron: [] ( :|: being X quantity rope)
    :Iron: [] :Iron:
:|: [] [] = A grappling hook with X length of rope attached to it.

Note: A hook could be made separate all together, since hooks can have multiple uses. And the design could just be:
    []
[] :|: (with being the Hook, and :|: being the string)
This way, the grappling hook can be made without a bench. But the hook will be needing a bench.

A character uses the grappling hook, and can anchor a rope to a short range (range probably 10 - 15 blocks), and can anchor underneath a block. The rope attached is how long the rope will be, so a GH (grappling hook) has only 10 rope to it, the rope will only dangle 10 meters, a GH with 64 will have 64 m of rope. When recovered like normal rope, you'll get the GH and rope attached to it. To simplify it, the GH icon in the menu will have the GH icon with a number to indicate it's length.

Quote from ROPE EXAMPLE (Grappling Hook) »

    [] [] :grass: :grass: :grass:
    [] [] :|: [] :soil:
    [] [] :|: [] :soil:
    :grass: :grass: :|: [] :soil:
    :soil: [] :|: [] :soil:
    [] [] :|: [] :soil:
    :SSSS: [] :|: :Notch: :soil:
    :stone: :soil: :soil: :stone: :stone:
In this example, how a grappling hook can save poor Notch from a huggable (and explosive) end.

Anyone agree, disagree... personally love to see this idea (or rope in general) applied into MC.

( Hehe, and I was gonna make a topic on this as well, funny thing I looked before posting. :happy.gif: )

Just finished building a viking longhouse in SMP:

    Exterior, with groovy moon shot.

    Interior with supports.

Fire pit which may or may not have resulted half the structure burning down when i first tried it.

There's a chunk missing out of the stair roof because they're invisible due to a bug.

I much approve of your use of stairs and fences in the design. Especially something I'll try next time.
