They are hiring a new coder that will work on the AI for npcs and mobs etc I believe.
If they took the code from Millenaire it would be faster, free and their NPC AI is amazing.
:/
But if they do end up hiring another full time employee just for AI they're probably going to add much more intuitive features. Maybe NPCs that sleep, eat and socialize? Starter mobs? Bosses?
THen wait awhile longer. Jesus. Notch and Mojang are on vacation for a few weeks. As soon as they get back, coding time. It's been 3 days and you are complaining. Wow.
Well since these features were supposed to come with release I'm just a little curious since the game already..released.
Also I wouldn't trust Mojang with being on time with everything or keeping promises so I'm just hoping they'll release the mod API everything else will come eventually, either through Mojang or through modders.
I wanted this from the beginning. Use redstone to activate thrusters to exert force from that position (Or force and torque from the center) to make certain movements. You could separate a small airship from your main airship, use redstone to make the small airship crash into another airship and explode...
Yeah, thrusters NEED to be added. Perhaps in a way similar to Buildcraft engines... someone else makes a mod that adds a thruster running off of buildcraft energy... and off of IC energy... and off of BTW energy..........
I'm just getting sidetracked now. I just want thrusters with an API allowing other modders to make thrusters that run off of different fuels.
But first off, SMP. Physics can wait.
Flying aircraft carrier with kamikaze gliders/balloons that board or attach to enemy aircraft and promptly blow themselves up with 4-5 TNT blocks located on the glider/balloon.
The defending vessel would have to shoot down the gliders/balloons before they got to close, or blow them up during liftoff and cause damage to the attacking aircraft carrier :tongue.gif:
I'm still waiting for moss spread, lanterns, increased mob spawn and light protection as you go lower, zombie siege mode, potions, sheep eating grass, VILLAGERS of all kinds (why don't they just take the Millenaire code it's amazing...), Mod API and an actual interface for mods/admins in SMP since the current one has is community created.
But seriously the only thing that matters is the mod API because after it's released and there's no more bug fixes for Minecraft Notch and Jeb's additions to the game will be insignificant compared to the amount of balanced content pouring out from modpacks such as the Yogbox and the really amazing mods such as the Aether, Zeppelin mod, BetterThanWolves etc.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than any DLC the devs could come out with.
Yeah , the english everybody uses in this thread kind of ... sucks?
"Ufficial" (Official), "realy" (really), "whenn comes the mod out" (When does the mod come out) ... seriously ?
Pleasy try to improve it ...
And I highly doubt that this is ever going to be finished.
I usually attribute this to 12 year olds but the more and more I think about it there's a chance that they're people with English as a second language using this forum because there's no alt.
Why not http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/488434-181-zeppelin-016-wip/ ?
This mod basically allows you to create ship entities out of any blocks and pilot them, it has collision physics and a **** tonne of other awesome features, the mod creator is going to create realistic size constrictions depending on the craft composition, a fuel system and more.
It has breakable blocks in the same sense that actual in-game boats do.
Also this mod would allow a LOT of creative freedom as you could build or ship using your own personal design, but obviously you can't build an iron cube and expect it to float, some players would build thin streamline ships that require low fuel and go absurdly fast but carry a very little and are prone to getting explodinated.
Then there's people like me who would build giant ironclad juggernauts which could double as a mobile base and have enough fire power to take on cities but would require 4-5 people dedicated to mining enough fuel for it to stay afloat.
I like your idea and all but it restricts people from creating ships to their liking, since this game has an emphasis on building and creativity I'd very much like to build my mast in the shape of a phallus and have a creeper as my bow
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT MAKE DRAGONS RIDEABLE
I mean good God, it's a 30 foot lizard. If you want a way to end the game, add it, by all means. The whole point of Minecraft is
A: Exploring new lands, which is significantly more epic on foot then on a gigantic dragon that spits fire and death.
B: Fighting, and being scared of, monsters, which is a little less scary when you can call in your death monster and burn their faces off.
Not only that, but Minecraft is supposed to be slightly realistic (I admit, not much) and doesn't a dragon totally exemplify that. Especially considering its a snake that you can apparently feed sugar to and make it your friend. I get the want to make them rideable, and I'm happy he's adding them because there aren't many monsters you are actually scared of encountering in MC, but if he makes them rideable I'm abandoning this game and heading back to BF3
Or make it toggleable, like the "F**k it, I want MC to end after I kill one dragon mother" switch.
Wow. Just read that back and I feel like a ****. Anyways, NO RIDEABLE DRAGONS
Thanks for reading
Time to destroy your argument line by line.
My idea for the tameable dragon would be a 4-5 block long runt and a 8-10 long block full sized dragon not 30
Exploring new lands would be a LOT more fun with a dragon, especially one that requires you to time the jumps like the Moa in the Aether mod, pretty much a frog with 5-6 combo jumps not true flight.
Also the dragon with true flight would require a LOT of fuel and for you to fight occasional enemies to satisfy bloodlust or w/e, this doesn't disable exploration in the same sense that the zeppelin mod doesn't.
Fight would be a LOT MORE FUN if you're on a freaking dragon, there's no monsters in minecraft that's slightly scary besides creepers when they sneak up on you and that's still possible with dragons.
ALSO once you're in the Ender and you have a freaking dragon you'll be engaging in
DRAGON ON DRAGON COMBAT, THE BEST TYPE OF COMBAT.
Also Minecraft isn't supposed to be realistic in the least bit you have no proof of this whatsoever, there's Snow Golem 's mushroom cows and what not.
Also I'm assuming that you're comparing a tameable dragon to a god damned jet from BF3.
Please realize that the dragon would be extremely nerfed compared to your views, it would be able to jump multiple times in succession, not fly (unless you get the rare 5% one)
Also each jump should reduce the food bar of the dragon by 1 or 2 :tongue.gif:
I don't think that means what you think it means.
If I have a nuke and you don't, its balanced.
If we both have a nuke, its balanced, with the potential of a nuclear apoclypse.
having a small chance of getting the dragon does not help balance a thing.
A dragon should be equally obtainable to everyone. Hard to get, certainly, but they should be equally able to get it. diamond armour is also a huge advantage. The one who has it is more powerful. However, this is not unbalanced, since everyone posseses equal capacity to gather diamonds and make the armour. If you do it faster, you are playing the game better, and get an advantage.
Dragons should work the same way. A significant advanatage, but one that must be learned.
If you gather your resources first, try to tame a dragon, and it fails, you are set back considerably. No the second person tries, he randomly suceeds, and now he has the advantage, you don't, even though you earned it first.
Look at starcraft. Know for its remarkable balance. Terran vs. terran battle. If one person has a batlecruiser and the other team has marines, its unbalanced, and the guy with the battlecruiser will win. However, both sides have equal potential to get the battleship, so the guy who pulls it off first is playing better and gets an advantage. If the other guy is only a small gap behind, he will have units capable of dealing with a battleship, and will soon have his own.
similarly, if you get a dragon, and the othr players are doing well, they will be well-equipped to deal with a dragon. If you have the supplies to deal with a dragon, they are likely not far behind.
Sidenote: The music that I happen to be listening to at the moment is call "dragonrider" :biggrin.gif:
I don't get how obtaining a dragon is any different than obtaining full diamond armor, both require luck and determination.
The determination as in getting to the ender, killing a mother dragon, stealing its egg all the way up to right before it hatches.
The luck is what the hatchling will be.
As with diamond the determination comes with creating a complex underground mine using specific patterns for optimized mineral collection and grinding for hours straight
The luck comes from actually hitting a diamond vein because there's only a certain percentage that allows the spawning of diamond blocks (upto 4?) in a chunk.
now that I look at it, it makes more sense if the results were nerfed....
But I don't see how you can compare diamond armor to having a dragon, if anything its more like getting a saddle.
It requires a LOT of chance and determination, honestly the only people with dragons in SMP should be the reallly realllllly determined people.
It doesn't effect me if dragons will be able to be ridden since I can choose not to do it however I doubt some crazy system like this would go well with the dragon riding fanatics, it would be worse than a tamagotchi and your dragon wouldn't be worth having in multiplayer if it would starve to death in a few seconds without you. :tongue.gif:
I like the egg idea though since I dislike the idea of taming a wild dragon straight away, not sure why but it seems odd being able to 'break' a wild dragon.
Then how about this
You kill the momma and get an egg (5% chance of their being an egg)
You take the egg back home and for the next 3 days mobs are attracted to it so basically if you leave your house they'll mass at the doors waiting for you (this has been done by a LOT of mods already)
After 3 days the egg will hatch.
The resulting hatchling is based on luck
40% grunt dragon that you can mount. (repeated jumps like a moa)
40% rogue dragon that tries killing you
15% Cute baby dragonling that follows you around but is useless
5% Full grown dragon that you can mount (actual flight)
tada it's a lot more simple
Kill the mommy and get the egg
Wait 3 days
Egg hatches
and to make it a bit more dangerous, you have to carry the egg in your inventory so you can't just lock it away deep underground
1: What would you actually do after you tamed a dragon?
2: How long would it take you to get bored after you realized that you can't actually do anything with the dragon since 75-90% of Minecraft takes place underground, in a different dimension or in a house?
The only reasonable answer I could see would be to grief and if dragons were to be tameable they'd just be outlawed on every server anyway.
1. On SMP it would be a symbol of pride and effective in combat.
2. You understand at the MOST minecraft is 50% mining (from the name lulz)
But seriously if you've ever played in a big SMP server you'd realize mining is only 30-50% of what people do.
Dragons would be a great traveling tool and a great tool for combat, also they would give people an end-game goal.
I don't see how it's so complicated.
You go to the Ender
Kill a momma dragon and take its egg
Run back home and place it on the nearest hill
Wait 3 days (monsters attack day 2, dragon attacks day 3)
It hatches
You feed it
It grows
You feed it a bit more
Now it can develop into any of its final forms, woohoo
This would create a HUGE endgame goal for people in both SMP and SSP, also there could a buttload of achievements to go with it.
and the only problem I have with real flight is that it's ridiculously IMBA, if you want to escape you can fly away REALLLLY fast REALLLLY quickly and explorations would become useless because you have a freaking dragon to fly over the map, if you could get a true flight dragon it should only be 1-3 people on a server of 100+
Something REALLLY, REALLLLLLY hard to pull of.
Well I'm going to wait till Spoutcraft allows the addition of client mods for servers and when Notch releases the modding API then hopefully I can start and finish this mod before someone else makes one :tongue.gif:
Point. More arrows, mybad. I have problems with balancing numbers and damage, I'm just good with ideas. Anyways, with a balanced arrow number to take down a dragon, I still say my argument has good values, and points. (Also take into consideration the time arrows take to travel, ESPECIALLY in SMP with ping!!) Either way, there WILL be cheap points in MC SMP!
also, about the diamonds. It was hard to get a stack, as it was hard to get a dragon... and hey, they both vanish fairly easy (probably the diamonds easier ;P)
If you have a stack of diamond you want to run to your house and store it
If you have a full grown giant dragon you want to go rape people regardless of their armor .
Having 3 (4?) possible outcomes of your dragon would be awesome.
Say like 5 people of one nation in SMP manage to get their dragons to evolve at the same time, everyone is static in anticipation... the first dragon evolves! ....it's still a baby :C
The second dragon evolves! it's a runt!
The next two dragons evolve! their both runts :ohmy.gif:
The 5th dragon evolves! it's an AGGRESSIVE FULL SIZED DRAGON, AND ATTACK EVERYTHING IN SIGHT, AHHHHHHH.
lol :tongue.gif:
But seriously this adds another level of depth AFTER the skill needed to slay a dragon and steal its egg, the patience and determination to raise and hatch it and then FINALLY the luck required to actually get a runt/full grown dragon.

herpderp
Notch mentioned themed DLC since Alpha
0
actually that's a better idea!
An ender-theme slime, it's black and slightly translucent with purple slime inside
Wherever it jumps it leaves a puddle of purple goo that eventually solidifies into blocks.
and once you kill it, it explodes with goo going everywhere
!!
1
!!!!!!!!!!!!
So there's a giant overgrown glutton mob
Basically it's a giant blob with green liquid spilling out of holes on its body.
Occasional (if near a player?) it will vomit a purple liquid that solidifies into blocks.
Rough idea :ohmy.gif:
Anyone care to expand?

Find a stronghold using Ender eyes
Go to the nether and kill blazes
combine blaze powder and ender eyes to get enough to open the portal
go there
I'm assuming it's going to be filled with end-game level content
