Humm. I'm pretty sure I'm installing correctly, seeing as MC actually launches without error.
Possible that I've got a broken Java install, I was having trouble with it some months back.
What really confuses me is that the .txt files worked fine, but the .ini doesn't. Guess I'll just wait until you decide to switch to XML, and try again.
Seems my install is still not reading the .ini file, nor writing one if it isn't present.
I'm beginning to suspect it's a quirk with Windows 7. I don't suppose I could take a look at the Java code that should be reading/writing the file?
Also, I spawned on a cactus. Odds are astronomical, yes, but you might want to do something about it.
right-click minecraft.jar in .minecraft/bin folder
izarc -> open with izarc
drag .class files in, click 'yes to all'
delete META-INF folder
close izarc
run Minecraft.jar in .minecraft folder
???

This method worked for me for 9.1, but 10 STILL doesn't work. Everything starts up fine, but the .ini file has no effect whatsoever.
So can anyone confirm for me that v10 actually works?
I apologise for the bump, but I've got nothing better to do and want to get back to looking at pretty floating islands.
... and where do we put the .ini?
I've tried in .minecraft, .minecraft/bin and .minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar, everything runs fine but no change to terrain.
Is it supposed to generate a default .ini the first time it runs, like it did with biomesettings.txt? Cause mine didn't.
Just load up a level or create a new one and it will place one in your .minecraft\ folder.
Try reading more than the first line of my post.
Thanks for trying to help, though. Does yours work?
-edit-
BiomeTrees setting seems to work. WaterLevel, Fracture and MinTemp don't. Also, I've got pumpkins showing up even with rarity = 0.
-edit again-
Nope, I was wrong, the mod changes default trees, or something.

I cannot find the meta-inf folder within minecraft.jar.
When I attempt to boot minecraft, I get a blackscreen.
I use winrar,7-zip, and winace to open the .jar file, but none of those programs show the above folder, which should be deleted. Any help?
It sucks that so many people can work this just fine and I'm stuck on this relatively simple task. It's embarrassing.
I use iZarc. Also, are you using the standalone or web version?
Smallish floating islands above an otherwise normal world (with no water)
Seems like the key to floating islands is a high FractureVertical value, and moderate volatility.
Sure wish I was computer savvy and wasn't stuck on finding minecraft.jar
Start -> Run -> %appdata% -> .minecraft -> bin
Also, just a heads up to anyone stuck on the all-dirt screen, check your temperature, moisture and water level settings, and remember that players MUST spawn on sand. If you want low water level, you need moisture and temperature settings that allow deserts, and if you want no deserts, you'll need a decent water depth (60 seems as low as I could get with MoistureMin=0.5)

Using iZarc breaks it, but 7zip works fine.
So, yeah. Don't use iZarc.
