Recently, I have endeavored to make a texture pack, and unfortunately I haven't been able to get a log texture to look good. I was hoping someone who is good with textures could give me a few pointers on how to make a good looking, RPG looking log texture.
1. Set up infinite food source (i.e. farm)
2. Build a basic mine
3. Set up a small house/homestead
4. Go mining more
5. Build automatic systems for furnaces, farming, etc.
6. Quarry out large amounts of stone
7. BUILD AN EMPIRE! RULE THE WORLD
It's relatively easy to build an automatic chicken farm, it simply requires 2 rooms, the sizes of which you can change depending on how much chicken you want to get out of it.
The first room is the egg room. The best way to do this without generating too much lag is too have the chickens floating on a layer of flat water (use signs placed on the side of other signs to form the floor). This will allow eggs to fall through the water onto the layer of moving water that pushes them into a hopper. We use the layer of flat water to prevent the chickens form constantly colliding and causing lag,
Between the rooms the hopper should empty into a dispenser attached to a redstone clock. The eggs are then fired into the next room.
After this you need a room with a piston crusher (used to kill chickens) and a piston controlled water flusher thingy (used to flush drops). These should then be 'flushed' into a hopper which empties into a furnace, which is then emptied into a chest,
I like the snow biomes and jungle the least, because they are relatively ugly to build in, but if you are making a themed build ie a nordic hall or norse village, they are perfect for this, or for jungles some old ruins, tree house, or something to this efffect. It's all a matter of being able to adapt your build to the environment.
The lava cannot burn the sign, I think because the is no space next to or above the sign for the lava to start a fire in. This lava blade, however, will burn the sign because the animals will float on top of it, they need to be falling fast enough to go through and hit the ground hard enough that they will die while still on fire, thus giving you cooked meats.
Something similar to this would be great on a factions server, although making it more user friendly is a must. I, however, still prefer to build for appearance mainly, with function optimized as well
Attempt to uninstall all versions of Java present on the machine. Restart, then install the latest one here. Remember to install 64-bit Java if you are on a 64-bit machine, and vice versa for 32-bit. http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Thank you! I will try this as soon as possible and get back to you on whether or not it works.
