For those who care, I put together an updated, very simple version of the mod out of boredom.

Can we have a debuff of the strength potion? Seriously, it is absurd. Strength II allows you to do an extra 10 freaking hearts. Potions should be minor improvements to overall stats, not the match-maker of a fight. (+260% bonus damage is game breaking).

Because of the rush it can give you. Nothing like demolishing entire structures under the moderator's nose. It's kinda like how bad teens sneak out at night and do graffiti, or egg someones car, etc. The difference, though, is that punishment for online MC is much less than one from the popo, which maybe explains why it is so popular.:steve_csi:

Okay, go look at the Minecraft code and come back. You can see how messy it is. Hopefully Mojang will clean it up soon.

Exactly, I know java real good and have both coded Forge and Bukkit mods. I know for a fact Minecraft code is really messy. Fixing it up is going to be a daunting task, but it really goes to show that Mojang needs more staff working on MC (perhaps Microsoft can help with that problem?).

How are your java skills doing at the moment?

Nice straw man pardner, Java has absolutely nothing to do with it. If you complain that a plumber did his job bad because you still have leaks, does that mean that you have to know how plumbing works to criticize the person you paid for a good / service? If Minecraft has a bug, you can see it, you don't have to know java to know that it is broken. Considering Mojang is worth 2.5 billion dollars, they should be able to do these things, NO exceptions.

5 instances actually. I have 5 vastly different computers, ranging from a $2200 self made PC to a $200 used dell.

    1. $2200 computers are more than $600.
    2. You have been dragging on this entire thread about how your computers are so great and how they don't lag, and this somehow counts as evidence that 1.8 doesn't lag? that poll I found has over 2000 votes, You and only you doesn't constitute any solid conclusion...

I can run 1.8 flawlessly on a $200 workstation computer. Your argument is invalid.

Oh darn, a single instance where someone got lucky and got a good computer for cheap, totally disproves my argument, rats.

But seriously? One instance (in this case, you) condones 1.8's lagginess? For retail shop prices a good gaming computer will cost around 600 dollars (Lucky prices on craigslist don't count). So in fact, your argument is invalid.

"1.8 lags unless you have a computer designed for gaming and with the graphics that Minecraft displays we should not have to spend 600 dollars to get a good gaming experience."

This is not the case. The huge of users experiencing lag can get a noticeable improvement by using a 64bit Java. No need for a new video card or bigger CPU or more RAM. Just use 64bit Java if you have a 64bit Windows install. The fact that this doesn't seem to be a problem on other platforms strongly points to a mismatch of Java to OS.

"You don't lag? Good for you, however, about 80% of the community would say otherwise."

Nonsense. 80% of the community is NOT lagging. I dare you come up with a valid metric saying otherwise. The length of this thread is irrelevant, as the sample is extremely self selected. I am not doubting that you have a problem with lag. But your problem with it does not translate into 80% of users having a problem.

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-discussion/recent-updates-and-snapshots/2202539-is-1-8-lagging-for-you-poll-lets-settle-this-issue

Around 75% of people report either worse lag or equal lag. So not entirely baseless, and considering that most people use optifine, this is pretty wretched...

The features aren't spectacular, but they are nice for dedicated players, and those who make the game a bit more broad (map / mod / server makers). Personally, I enjoy them.

The problem is an update should be and only be an upgrade that everyone or almost everyone can benefit from. The moment their is a trade off or a downside to using an update, then there is a reason to complain.

In this case, the trade off is lag, and for these features, that is rather pitiful. If Mojang wants to look like a company worth TWO AND A HALF BILLION FREAKING DOLLARS then maybe they should code, I dunno, a bit more like people worth an umpteen gazillion amount of dollars >.>

1.8 lags unless you have a computer designed for gaming and with the graphics that Minecraft displays we should not have to spend 600 dollars to get a good gaming experience.

Don't even get me started on the whole "1.8 doesn't lag" thing. The more crap (When I say crap, I mean "random assortment of stuff) they code, the more spaghetti - ish the code becomes and the more resource intensive/laggy the game will become. You don't lag? Good for you, however, about 80% of the community would say otherwise. If Mojang really did revamp "millions of lines of code" then I am pretty sure that this lag should NOT have happened. Also, most users don't care how revamped the code is. They could turn minecraft into really clean and beautiful code but if the game still lags then what benefit do the users get from that?

Staying on 1.7 is not the solution. New updates really push themselves onto the community as modders / server owners feel obligated to having to update their content. This causes staying behind to be unpractical and cumbersome and causes splits in server / modding communities (As if the DMCA drama wasn't enough).

If you are saying "Mojang employees have lives!", or "Shut up selfish jerk!" or "Mojang doesn't HAVE to update!", then you are just an apologist and are adding to the problem. This isn't a content problem, this is a problem that the update in general has caused to the community, especially when many things could have been done to stop it.

New content is always welcome, it can only help the game grow. Mojang doesn't HAVE to update, so yeah, I don't see a problem with the update...

Oh wait, what the? MY g-ame i-s j-i-tt (lags out).

But yeah, the sad part is that the steve's are endangered now, those alex's do great jobs at being an invasive species.
