posted a message on Any good, classic faction servers still out there?

Hey, old timer here. I haven't played much mc over the last year but now I am looking for a good faction server to play on.

Most of the modern ones are "OP PVP", a part of a hub server, have +500 people on at all times, have bad rules, etc.

The ones I am familiar with seem to have vanished, specifically, ones with these characteristics.

    1. No critical P2W - I don't mind 50$ ranks that give extra homes and a virtual chest, but I am sick of p2w's having asinine advantaged that make gameplay too difficult.

    2. Not stuffed with players - I'm looking for a server that averaged to around 40-100 players.

    3. No inflated economy - Often, OP or p2w servers live on a lifeline of items. The admin shop prices never change, but the total amount of gear / money seems to double every week.

    4. No free b's - All you should provide is a starter kit. No big kit every day, no spawn grinder or pig farms or ender chests.

    5. Raids / obsidian. This falls hand in hand with the inflated economy. Getting base worthy material should be difficult. Also, obsidian better last more than 3 hits of tnt.

    6. Reasonable rules and gameplay mechanics - this one is obvious, broken aspects on some server like teleporting friends into a pvp match, using set homes to glitch into bases, and other exploits, should be covered in the rules.

I didn't know where else to post this, if anyone has a server that falls into this category, post it here for an easy rep, thanks.

Aren't you the same guy who said this before? Then said we need to stop complaining about no content when that screenshot was released? Then said... This?

And what relevance does this hold? Nothing contradictory about telling people not to complain and then saying that updates (as a fact) take a long time to come out. Do you really have to make a big deal outta this? Seriously, what is bothering you so terribly?

Can we have a debuff of the strength potion? Seriously, it is absurd. Strength II allows you to do an extra 10 freaking hearts. Potions should be minor improvements to overall stats, not the match-maker of a fight. (+260% bonus damage is game breaking).

To all of you suggesting that minecraft should be in c++, I should remind you, that the jvm is hardly slower than c++ nowadays. The real disadvantage to java is the extra RAM is uses (which isn't a big deal when you can just jam extra RAM chips into your computer, you can't jam in CPU's and expect it to run faster, however). It isn't the coding language that makes the difference, it's the person coding it. A (good) recode in java itself would do just as much as one in c++.

Because of the rush it can give you. Nothing like demolishing entire structures under the moderator's nose. It's kinda like how bad teens sneak out at night and do graffiti, or egg someones car, etc. The difference, though, is that punishment for online MC is much less than one from the popo, which maybe explains why it is so popular.:steve_csi:

It's lazy even for java, and people generally agree that java is the slowest non-scripting language, and mc 1.8 in particular has wayyy more assigned memory than it needs, and memory leaks are horrid. There was a pretty good post by skq9 about what is wrong with mc 1.8.

First off, the work ethic of a programmer has nothing to do with the language he codes in. (AKA "lazy even for java" is silly)

Java, CPU wise, runs similar to faster and more native languages (Java has been seen to run maybe 10-30% slower than c++ when it comes to large graphic - based projects, which minecraft epitomizes). Besides, you can always upgrade memory, but cpus are going to be stuck at around 4.66 GHZ for a long time. (And even then, cpus over 3.5 ghz w/ hyper threading are expensive!)

I never said 1.8 was coded nicely, it DOES have issues. But my argument is that Java is the best language for mc to be coded in. The versatility of the language makes it very convenient, universal among all cpus, and easy to integrate with the internet, everything that modern programs should do. It also allows a modding community to exist in the first place. (A significant one, at least)

A rewrite in Java would do much more for efficiency than porting the current code to a more native language. Java is only slow when relatively inexperienced coders use it or when people code in a hurry. (I will admit to being one of those people sometimes D:)

As far as 1.8 goes, I hope to see bugfixes and other fixes soon, but the custom generation is pretty epic (I like being able to have diamond spawn up to pre beta 1.8 levels, so I can actually cave, rather than having to shaft so darn much.)

I agree the programmers of minecraft were pure lazy. The following quote sums up what is happening. "Hardware engineers: Working hard so programmers don't have to." -2insanepeople, 2015. I am working on learning asm, starting with atmel asm, and I aspire to optimize well in higher level languages like c and c++ using what I learn from asm. With microcontrollers, you still have limited power to work with. I believe that today's computers would run at LEAST 2-3x faster if everything was as optimized as theoretically possible.

What does this have to do with 1.8? Also, the game will stay in Java forever for very obvious reasons (unless Microsoft makes a new minecraft).

Okay, go look at the Minecraft code and come back. You can see how messy it is. Hopefully Mojang will clean it up soon.

Exactly, I know java real good and have both coded Forge and Bukkit mods. I know for a fact Minecraft code is really messy. Fixing it up is going to be a daunting task, but it really goes to show that Mojang needs more staff working on MC (perhaps Microsoft can help with that problem?).

How are your java skills doing at the moment?

Nice straw man pardner, Java has absolutely nothing to do with it. If you complain that a plumber did his job bad because you still have leaks, does that mean that you have to know how plumbing works to criticize the person you paid for a good / service? If Minecraft has a bug, you can see it, you don't have to know java to know that it is broken. Considering Mojang is worth 2.5 billion dollars, they should be able to do these things, NO exceptions.

5 instances actually. I have 5 vastly different computers, ranging from a $2200 self made PC to a $200 used dell.

    1. $2200 computers are more than $600.
    2. You have been dragging on this entire thread about how your computers are so great and how they don't lag, and this somehow counts as evidence that 1.8 doesn't lag? that poll I found has over 2000 votes, You and only you doesn't constitute any solid conclusion...
