I do mention Magic Launcher in the installation instructions at the top of the thread, so it's not entirely off topic. What's in the instructions is about all the help I could provide on Magic Launcher though. I'm a convert. I love the thing and it works flawlessly for me with WDL. I would recommend enabling the console feature of Magic Launcher so that you can see any error messages that come out during and after launch. The default is to hide the console once you click Play. Let us know if you see anything interesting in there.

MCP has been released for 1.7.10 already check http://mcp.ocean-labs.de/news.php?extend.14.1

Base mods are possible with transformers, it's just a bit... obfuscated and hard to work with.

Thanks for the update! I just saw it on SeargeDP's Twitter feed after my last post. I'll update WDL for 1.7.10 when I get a chance. Unfortunately I'll be traveling for work until July 7. If anyone wants to take a crack at it before then, go for it and send me a pull request through Github. Otherwise, it will be mid-July before I can get to it. At least now I have something to work with.

Searge says there's going to be MCP released for 1.7.10
Forge has been released for 1.7.10 but MCP has not been released yet.

I think Forge gets a lot of support from the core team and there will likely be less and less support for base mods such as WDL going forward. If they feel the Forge API exposes everything in the Minecraft system that should be used by mods, then MCP and base mods may no longer be feasible. It's already a PITA if you read all the comments on here how people can't figure out how to even use the thing. :/

    Wooo... long time no see...

I was going to finish my Liteloader version of WDL but then my MCP setup screwed up...

    Time to start from scratch..

If you can get it working, I think it could be the default installation method. I have not had time in months to even look at Minecraft, but less work on this mod. I'm still not aware of an MCP for 1.7.9 and I'm not up for trying to update this without current mappings. If anyone wants to take it on, grab the source from GitHub and give it a go.

Requesting updates is a violation of forum rules. There is still no MCP for 1.7.9. SeargeDP last commented on his Twitter on 5/24 that it would be "soon". I can't update it until I get the mappings for 1.7.9. If someone else has a method for updating it, go for it and let me know what you came up with. This project is open source and has had several contributors. If it's important to you, then help to keep it going. I play Minecraft about never and I only keep it going because my kids ask me to help them save their builds from time to time. It's honestly getting to be a PITA and comments like the one from this f**kwit don't encourage me to keep doing it:

WTF? It's open source. If you don't like my schedule then update it yourself.

Please update this to 1.7.9. It's the only good WDL out there, and the only one that's close to updated. I've used it for a long time, and always been satisfied with the result.

I have to tell you that this mod rocks!! It has saved a ton of time building what I want on the server. The only problem is my fav server updated to 1.7.9 and it no longer works. I have to admit that I tried installing as 1.7.9 thinking that maybe only a few new items would not work, but as you most likely know it does not work at all when trying to install as 1.7.9. I'm hoping (all fingers crossed) that updating it is on you mind. BTW I believe in donations and for this kick as mod! Thanks, Ken

Thanks, Kenster. The class mappings and reflection elements for 1.7.9 are certainly different so we'll have to wait for MCP mappings to be published. You can follow SeargeDP on Twitter to see when he posts an update. That's what I do.

I tried to install it multiple times, but it failed all times. Can you please give us the download to your .minecraft/versions/1.7.4.wdl ?
it is easier to just drag the map in the versions, because yours is already working
    This is the error report:

Please do not request distribution of compiled Minecraft jar files. That is a violation of forum rules. You will need to install the class files in your jar. Is it crashing on startup or at some other point?

Here is a little update, I have installed the mod very slowly, following each step on the original post to the letter. I keep getting the error message that I'll put in a spoiler down below.

This is the only bit you need to see to know that it's not going to work...

[20:37:09 WARN]: Couldn't download https://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/versions/1.7.2.wdl/1.7.2.wdl.jar for job 'Version & Libraries'

There must be something in the instructions that is ambiguous because it works for me (I just tried it) and for the vast majority of people who download it. Can you explain in your own words what you are doing to install it and I'll see if it matches what I would expect. Sorry it's so difficult. :(

Hello im having a major problem that whenever i am trying to join a server i crash, I later i tried this with singleplayer and i still crash :/
This is what my launcher says: http://pastebin.com/wxV82n01
Please help as i would love to use one of my builds on a creative world as my server lobby,

It just looks like you have not installed the files correctly in your jar file. That's what this means:

    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: net/minecraft/wdl/WDL
    Quote from Kuloko

I do see the error message now but it doesn't make any sense.

    It reads as follows:

From my simple understanding, it's trying to download something of Mojang's servers and can't find it. This only happens when I run the version that is set up for 'wdl'. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

It should never be trying to download anything with WDL in the name from Mojang or from Amazon. It means you have not installed the mod correctly. You should already have the correct version, unmodified, downloaded and running. After that, you copy the version folder, rename the files, edit the json file, and install the mod files in the jar file. Since all of the files are already there, it should not download anything. It's trying to download because it's missing a file and it tries to download the version you named it which includes "wdl". It will not be able to find that to download and then you'll get these errors. Try to install again using the instructions at the top of the thread or use Magic Launcher.

Odd. I have installed the mod based on the instructions on the original post. I'm running into the problem of when I open my launcher, select the correct version file and click 'Play' the green bar to show it opening goes all the way across, then disappears and Minecraft doesn't open. If this is a common error or an error on my part, please let me know.

I have not seen that issue before. No error messages at all? It runs fine when you don't have the mod installed?

working code, if you feel like compiling it. Works here anyway, but I can't guarantee it won't blow things up. Works in SP no interaction needed (aside from choosing your render distance in settings) and in SMP if you have a download running.

It looks like awesome work, MamiyaOtar! I checked out the code at your github. I'm so busy and not in a position to compile and distribute this as a compiled mod right now. I might have time to compile it and update also once I'm working on WDL for upcoming versions.
    Quote from 9190281

Hey, is it possible for you to add a way to change the render download distance so we can download all of the world if we want!? If you can, you could also add a way to change how many blocks out you want it to download, and then if possible, add how much time is left for the download to complete.
Thanks for creating an amazing mod!

What you are asking for is not possible. Just like World Downloader, the client only has access to what you as a player would already be seeing in the map. The client cannot change the view distance in multi-player mode. If you want to see more of the world, you have to walk around and explore.

Magic Launcher isn't a mod. The executable it creates IS a vanilla Minecraft with whatever mods you've selected to install. It just helps you install mods is all.

Are you going to update this to 1.7.8/9? Or am I checking this thread every hour for nothing? xd

I honestly have not been playing Minecraft in a while and didn't even realize there was a new version. I don't see a new version of MCP for 1.7.6 or later. Searge indicated he would update MCP for 1.7.6 but maybe not yet.

Can anyone help me with my problem?

I have encountered a problem when downloading worlds. Many times, it will say
"[WorldDL] Didn't save chunk [a] because isModified is false!"

Any way to fix thiss? Thank you!

User MamiyaOtaru develops Zan's/Voxelmap and posted an explanation of this problem and a workaround a while back. Here it is again. I will get this into the FAQ since it seems to come up periodically.

    Quote from name="MamiyaOtaru" timestamp="1372390249" post="23093881" »

I was wondering when someone would notice this. It's my fault (there's a workaround)

For efficiency and speed reasons, the minimap (Zan's / VoxelMap) doesn't recalculate every chunk every tick. It only redraws a chunk when it has changed (isModified is true). So that it doesn't then redraw it again the next go around, the isModified flag (of the local copy of the chunk) is set to false. World Downloader then sees that isModified is false, and doesn't save the chunk.

To fix this, edit .minecraft/mods/VoxelMods/voxelmap.properties and add the line
    World Download Compatibility:true
Save the file, and start Minecraft.

With this set, the minimap doesn't mess with isModified. What this means is that chunks are not redrawn when they change ("change" can mean "when they first load" so the map may not fill in completely when you first login. As you walk around, or manually cycle zoom levels, it will fill out). This allows World Downloader to save all nearby chunks without interference.

Since this setting interferes with normal minimap functionality, it is not saved when you exit (you have to add it to the .properties file and save before every time you start Minecraft if you wish to download a world). It's a bit of a pain, but the best way I could think of for the minimap to be able to take advantage of isModified most of the time without trampling on World Downloader's usage of the same when you want to download a world.
