This is something I'd also be interested as I live in the Southern Hemisphere =P

It'd be a bit more impressive if I didn't know exactly how to duplicate this with some logs of wood and a pair of sheers.

I created a crusher trap, where pistons in the roof push cobblestone down onto your head. Technically is causes you to drown (as you're now encased in a block). Only tested with regular pistons, but it should work with sticky pistons too.

Would make an effective mob trap, but a poor player trap as a player trapped within the stone can just mine their way out. Suggest having some overrides to collect mob drops without get crushed yourself.
