posted a message on How To Not Get Bored On Survival Mode.
Becoming bored with Survival mode, or any game mode for that matter, is like becoming bored of Minecraft. There are nearly endless possibilities in this game, yet some people are shortsighted.

Creative thinking like in the above post is the kind that belongs in Minecraft. It's always good to have a plan for the future so that you never get bored.

Okay, so here is my experience.

I start up the world and everything is fine. I don't exactly understand how the creepers :SSSS: are able to write with no arms, nonetheless build a structure with bedrock :opblock: floating in the air. That's okay, though, so I move on. Nice touch with the exit to the room being under the first chest :chestfront: , I didn't notice that at first

I fall into the next room and notice something fishy. I hear endermen. Do the creepers :SSSS: here share a cave with the endermen  ? Anyway I move on and find myself at the first puzzle. One thing bugs me: your math is off. Order of Operations tells me to start with multiplication and division first in an expression. Doing it that way, the expression is simplified to -2115. Soon enough, I found the error and was able to progress.

I pretty much gave up at the lava part. Not because it was bad, but because I'm just bad at that kinda stuff :steve_rage: . When I first died I tried to warp back, but I forgot the code (stupid mistake of mine  .)

I know you must have put a lot of work into this. This seems like a fairly good adventure map. It's just that the little details set it off. Any real adventure map player could most likely be able to complete this map and enjoy it. All this world needs is a little visual appeal and tweaking here and there. Keep up the good work. :iapprove:

So, the character is abducted by creepers :SSSS: . If that's the case, then this doesn't look at all like a creeper :SSSS: hive or cave. It's too bright. There should be less torches :--+:, or the torches :--+: be made less apparent. It should look more like an alien sanctuary than a stronghold. Use more natural stone :stone: :cobblestone: :mossystone: . Make it dark and scary. Include lots of tight corners and keep out anything that looks human.

I'd like if that Custom Skin maker could somehow convert our avatar's style and features into a skin.

posted a message on Not Minecraft, MineTEST

Minetest is a game based off of Minecraft by software developer Perttu Ahola. As far as I know, it's exclusive to the Ubuntu Software Center. Imagine this game being like Minecraft Alpha. It's very simple: you build a house, survive the night - you get the drill.

Why play this instead of Minecraft?

The reason is, it runs a lot faster. Recently, my old hard drive, which ran Windows 7, broke. This meant having to get another internal hard drive for my computer, but this time, I chose not to run Windows. Instead, I wanted to try out Ubuntu. I started to like it, but as it turns out, the games I used to play on Windows that ran perfectly fine couldn't run so smoothly. Minecraft was really slow and laggy, and I did not like to play that way.

Ultimately, I figured the only way to play Minecraft on Ubuntu was to find a game like Minecraft on the Software Center desgined just for Ubuntu. Plugging in "Minecraft" in the search bar, I found one game out of all of the one hits. Minetest.

Sure, it's not as flashy and refined as Minecraft. The enemies are flat sprites, the day-and-night cycle is choppy, there's no hunger or survival aspects, there's no Nether or End, and there's no sense of adventure.
To me, though, it's all about the building. I wanted a smoothly running game where I could build all the brick houses I wanted.
