1) The biome doesn't change just because you change the blocks
2) In the more recent updates, animals only spawn on new chuncks, and only once. If there aren't animals there now, you'll have to lure them there from somewhere else.

Jul 30, 2012I would like to submit the seed "No Gods". It spawns you on an hilly archipelago with a couple decent early mining areas, tall grass and flowers but no trees or animals. No other land is in sight, so it's almost like a challenge map in that you have to find an island with trees before you starve to death. x3 The mainland, when you find it, has all major biome types except for mushroom, as far as I have explored,Posted in: Seeds

I was actually thinking of something like that.
I think it would be well served by also requiring fuel to complete the conversion... But I'm not sure how one would go about accomplishing that. Not sure how much fuel should be consumed per diamond, either... Maybe an entire coal or more per diamond?

You spawn on the grass block. Survive and thrive with the blocks provided.
Rules: No invedit, cheats, hints, or mods. Just plain, regular Minecraft. (This being the case, it is highly recommended to back up your save often early game, as you are very likely to commit an irreversible accident.)
1) Spread the grass
2) Create a cobblestone generator
3) Create an infinite source of water
4) Create a 6 block long pool in which to fish
5) Create a tree farm.
6) Build a house
7) Build a wheat farm.
8) Make a half stack of glass panes (32)
9) Find the secret of the map.
10) Make a stack of all renewable resources
11) Manage not to loose any non-renewable resources
This is my first map, sorry if it's bad. x_x I drew a lot of inspiration from Skyblock, but I wanted to give people a more concrete reward for figuring out physics peculiarities in Minecraft. I would like to reiterate, hints ruin the accomplishment of figuring out said peculiarities and exploiting them. Also, this is a work in progress, I have two things in particular I want to change, and I trust more will pop up as people try out the map. I also figured that after a certain point, survival wasn't an issue, but boredom and lack of creative materials was, and therefore I added the secret of the map to add a little something to the experience, even if it only gives roughly 15 extra minutes of entertainment. :tongue.gif:

Sep 14, 2011I was in a bad mood when I switched to the update because it was an accident. You see, I had been trying to install some mods, and one of them made it so that Minecraft wouldn't start (I know I'm dumb for not backing up my files, you can save it). But when I started my new world, aside from wanting to punch the pigs in their newly rendered snouts because they look uglier now, I noticed that once I found a river, clay was EVERYWHERE. I could make a city out of bricks! I consider that awesome. So, were there any instances like that for anyone else, positive or negative?Posted in: 1.8 Update Discussion

Skills: Farming and building, little bit of mining
Notes: My favorite thing is to make safe (from mobs), sustainable community buildings (Castles and apartments with thick walls) I'm also pretty good at making nice fake furniture like tables and chairs. I like mining enough to get stuff to make the community buildings and farms. I like farming EVERYTHING. I will make farms for everything if I get the right items to do it. : D No experience on servers, though. D:

The edging isn't very period, other than that looks good.
Dirt won't grow grass if it's edged in non-dirt... Not sure how much edging, but it's how I keep my farms nice and tramply animal free.
Other than that, gravel would look really nice for a pathway, especially against the green of the grass.
