Update your GPU's drivers, and beforehand run a malware scan using Malwarebytes.

Make sure that your drive also isn't full.

So for the record I'm no expert, but when I migrated my host earlier this month I had serious lag on my spigot server until I added -XX:ParallelGCThreads=4 to the arguments

My system has similar specs to yours, worth I shot I think

He shouldnt dedicate all of his cores to GC, since if it does GC, the server will lag while it's cleaning up memory.

    -XX:ParallelGCThreads=3 instead of 4.

    java version "1.8.0_251"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_251-b08)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 25.251-b08, mixed mode)

I should keep the TCP 25565?

Keep the TCP 25565, update Java to the x64 version.

Make sure that Windows's firewall isn't blocking the connection, just like brokendiscord84 explained.

I understood nothing, can you explain how to check please ?

What is in the startup script for you server exactly?

What he means is how much cores/CPU threads to use for GC.

open up a command prompt, then type in "java -version". Then tell me what it exactly outputs.

And with the other two ports, remove them as they are not needed.

Here it is, friend would find the same or better results.

That is completely adequate for hosting a MC server and browsing the web at the same time.

    That's not the problem then.

Before I begin ill throw out some information that might be helpful

I am on the latest version of java at the time of writing (verified by forcing an update on configure java)

I am on version 15.2 of minecraft and so is my friend

I am on windows 10 with a relatively solid GPU, CPU and 8 gigs of RAM

I have opened ports that i have been told to open and so has my friend as well as verifying that they are open with other tools

    Minecraft - PC
    TCP: 25565
    UDP: 19132-19133,25565

The issue that we are facing is that I have the server up and running fine, but he, on a different Ethernet connection across town, cannot join it. I am able to join the server through use of the localhost IP but, despite trying all kinds of IPs from my pc's to my modems, we cant get my friend in. I have also tried manually setting the server IP to match my pc's IP through the server properties text file that it created when I first launched the server. We have also both allowed Java through our windows defender firewall. When he enters the IP that i have set it tells him that "the connection had timed out" and that there is no further info. I don't know if i am just having trouble locating the server IP or if there is something more tricky going on. I'm sure any suggestions might help.

Attached is a snip of my port-forwarding job, even if i don't think that is the issue.

99% of the time, you should leave the server-ip line blank, since it automatically binds to the PC's IP.

Why do you have 2 other ports open, other than the default MC ports?

    What antivirus do you have?

This might sound stupid, but when you updated Java to the latest version, you didn't mean Java 14 did you?

Always use Java 8 with Minecraft, since there are some changes in Java 9 and above that makes it impossible to run MC.

Also check for conflicts in your Java installation.

How much ram are you telling java to use?

He is using 4GB, since it shows the RAM usage in one of his screenshots.

That is probably enough for his server, since he runs vanilla.

posted a message on MInecraft SMP crashing my entire houses internet connection

About 94 mbps down and 97 mbps up when everythings running normal, I haven't had the opportunity to run one when a crash is occurring because its usually down for a very brief moment and then comes back up in about a minute at most.

Another thing that I'm noticing but it's definitely not conclusive is, when my roommate isn't home, I can play for hours without crashing. The moment he steps in the door.. not even turning on his playstation 4 or anything yet, the crashes immediately start occurring, and then they happen every so often only while he is home. The only thing he keeps on him which could start causing the crashes the moment he gets home is his iPhone. But it feels like the second his iPhone connects to the internet is when the network starts getting issues, and that is only while I'm playing minecraft too. Every other game I play is fine.

The symptoms of this problem really are the weirdest issues I've ever come across

Well, try contacting your router's support number and see if they can help you.

I am not a expert at these kind of things, and I don't want to break anything.

That is a very weird issue, since a router should not instantly crap out when more than 1 person is connected.

    Upload is 2mbps

    And downloading is 5mbps

I will try that see if it works or not

That is the bare minimum if you want to use the internet while someone is on the server.

Minecraft servers use alot of your bandwidth, so be careful not to let the server hog up the connection.

posted a message on MInecraft SMP crashing my entire houses internet connection

Connecting to my friends server, not hosting myself. It's happening on both my PC and my laptop as well. I have a fairly new router and modem from my provider as my house was having unrelated internet issues a couple months back and they came out and replaced them. Same models of routers I'm sure but they are only 2 months old. The issue happened in the past on the old router + modem as well, back when I was playing SMP around the time 1.12 / 1.13 came out.

When I was playing in the past I thought it may be a host issue, we actually switched hosts to test that theory and it was still the same. The crashing has happened between 3 separate hosts now, and on 2 different computers.

Yes I update to java 14 and removed old versions. I didn't realize when I updated that minecraft had a stand-alone java version built in. Just for testing purposes I switched the executable in the launcher to the java 14 version but then it wouldn't launch at all so i went back to the pre-bundled version

Looking through Event Viewer I cant even find any sort of crash log or anything on the computer on why the internet has been cutting out.. It may be time to call my ISP since it definitely seems to be a network issue if its happened on two different PCs and over various hosts.

Hmm, as a last resort, goto speedtest.net, and tell me the results.

You could try factory-resetting your router as well.

What do you mean by server log ?

Copy the server console ? Something in the files ?

In the server folder, there should be a logs folder, send the latest.log or debug.log.

Ok, that is sufficient to run a server, so the problem lies in the server.

Could you upload the server logs to paste.ubuntu.com?

I really can't tell what is happening without a log.
