Regular_Hexahedron posted a message on Powered Minecart Buff - Allow It To Operate Without RailPowered minecarts are notoriously obsolete now, since powered rail outclasses them in every way. P-rail is faster and operates infinitely without fuel. It's also easier to automate. Obviously powered minecarts need to be improved a bit.Posted in: Suggestions
Here's a way to buff them that doesn't just make them redundant with powered rail: Allow powered minecart to operate without rail. And allow other minecarts directly pushed by a powered minecart to remain on a straight and steady path, even without rail.
This allows powered minecart to function as minecraft's version of a car, traveling on normal roads. You would still be able to travel over rail with a powered Minecart. In fact, you'd still need rail in order to change directions or go uphill. A mostly rail free powered minecart trip might still have a few rail sections in order to turn or head up slopes.
Would this be "better" than powered rail? No. It's just different. Powered minecarts might be used in areas where you don't want visible rail. Or it could be used for infrequently traveled routes that you pass over so rarely its not worth the resources to build a permanent rail link. -

Hafk posted a message on 1.0.0 forum is unnessicary. With the release of 1.0.0, Minecraft forums no longer needs a separate section for 1.0.0 Discussion. 1.0.0 is already covered by the Minecraft Survival and Minecraft Creative boards.Posted in: Forum Discussion & Info
Now, the purpose of that board hasn't really changed, it's still the same board, just a rather misleading name. I propose the board be split into Weekly Update Discussion. and Minecraft Development Discussion
Minecraft Development Discussion would handle things like future plans with the game, future Stable versions, etc. Much like past forums have done.
Weekly Update Discussion. would be devoted to the latest weekly updates. The smallest changes, newest bugs, etc.
If a split is too unreasonable of a suggestion, the 1.0 Update Discussion should still be renamed Minecraft Development Discussion -

Tuzik posted a message on A quick word from an Infdev Player..I just wanted to say something. There has been a recent war about the new updates for Minecraft. They are saying it is turning into an RPG. As far as I remember, RPG means Role Playing Game. Minecraft has a story line? No, it doesn't. I clearly remember that Notch said that he would make the game fun. We have already asked for extreme monsters in the past, which led him to that post. You guys need to understand that Minecraft is getting better.Posted in: Survival Mode -

Sheelawolf posted a message on What *is* Minecraft? With all the recent updates and prereleases, I've been seeing a lot of posts about how this new feature "isn't Minecraft," or that new object "isn't Minecraft." I'm a firm believer that anything Notch puts into the game is Minecraft, since he's its creator. However, I'd like to give the other side a chance to explain their position. Is there something you can identify as Minecraft? What makes Minecraft Minecraft to you, and what qualities do the things that aren't Minecraft share that rules them out?Posted in: Discussion
For those who, like me, believe that nothing in the updates is un-Minecraft, please don't ridicule or insult anyone who posts here to explain what Minecraft is or isn't. The same goes for those who have a specific idea about what makes Minecraft Minecraft. The intention of this thread is to open thoughtful discussion, not to be a firing wall. Feel free to share your opinions on Minecraft, not on the other posters. -

My thoughts exactly. The thread creators are doing nothing but wasting the time of vanilla players and deterring the players they are looking for.

If you are going to post [Vanilla] in your threads name, please make sure it is actually vanilla! You will save the time of myself and many others who are looking for a vanilla Minecraft experience. On that same note, you will attract more of the players that you are wanting; players who enjoy McMMO and plugins of that sort. I feel that an exception to this rule are plugins that stop grieving such as Logblock, Big Brother, and plugins that do not generally alter the experience for players.
I am sorry if this is is the wrong section for this thread, but this is where people who make these errors are looking.
Please think before you post.

So I've been playing Technic 6 SSP and I was happily walking along a beach. It was only the second day of a new world, and I already had iron tools! Wow, what luck! Everything was normal, until I saw him. A turtle walking along the beach. Knowing that turtles drop chests when you kill them, I though to myself: "Well, I haven't made a chest yet, and I could really use one to store my items!" So I walked up to the turtle, flipped him over, and prepared to strike. That's when I noticed; he only had two legs.
I couldn't bring myself to kill him, so I decided to keep the lil' guy as my pet and love him like nobody else could. After all, Minecraft is a harsh world and everyone needs a friend. I fed him some sugar cane, and gave him a name. Charlie sounds good! So with a new friend by my side, I set off into a brave new world.

I've got a basic shelter put together! The first thing I added in was a room for Charlie. It's a small fenced in area with turtle-height windows and grass flooring. The grass is still growing in, but I'm sure he'll appreciate it!
When I went outside to look for Charlie, I noticed that he sprouted his legs back! Amazing! Though he seemed to take a bit of damage, and he doesn't seem to be the brightest bulb in the pack. Nevertheless, I shall continue loving him!
I will be updating this thread regularly with my new adventures with Charlie! Stay tuned!
