Does anyone know if the mod updates affect the already-loaded chunks in Twilight Forest? I've finished TF and thought it would be cool to live in the abandoned castle. What I'm getting at is, if I move in and one day update the mod, will there be the bosses in all over my new base?

Jul 29, 2012Just thought it would be nice to be able to craft a miner's helmet with lantern - you know, like the hard hat with a light on the front. That way you could have the brightness of a torch centered around your head. It would make mining shafts much easier without having to carry 128 torches all of the time.Posted in: Suggestions
You would probably still want to drop torches behind you so mobs don't spawn or to mark your way, but it would be nice in certain situations.
Just a thought I had - carry on.

I look for a blacksmith and loot the bookshelves. That's it. When 1.3 is officially released, I will build a house near the village and protect and extend the village for the trading properties.
You know... I thought the same thing but it turns out, trading isn't all that great. Maybe I'm just stingy with my emeralds but all I ever do is trade wheat for emeralds but nothing* is worth trading emeralds for.
3 emeralds for a pair of shears? Um no thanks...
6 emeralds and some gravel for 3 flint? Gimme a break.
1 emerald for 3 loves of bread? That won't even fill up my health bar once!
I've sold and sold and sold but found nothing to buy that's not ridiculously overpriced. If emeralds were crazy common maybe, but I'm not going to trade - essentially - 20 wheat for 3 bread when 20 wheat makes 6 bread and I don't need to find the villager to make the trade.
*The enchanting trades are interesting but seem to be harder to find. I found one guy who will enchant a diamond axe with looting and unbreaking for 3 emeralds. That's not too bad... but if I find a guy doing fortune III / unbreaking IV for pickaxes? Score.
Jul 27, 2012What version are you using? Only the newer snapshots have trading enabled. If you just came back and are still using 1.2.5 you won't be able to trade until Aug 1 and the update to 1.3.Posted in: Survival Mode
If you are on the snapshots... IDK, did you do something to **** them off? lol
Jul 27, 2012I just started a new large biomes map for our server and we spawned within eyesight of a village. I set up just outside of town and started trading wheat. My friends got on the next day and built their own houses nearby. I got on later to add some houses and increase the population to see all the villagers were gone!Posted in: Survival Mode
So I started walking hoping to find another village and found one about 500 meters north of the first one - even bigger and with a blacksmith.
I ran back to town and got all of my stone and built a 3 block high wall around the whole place (50x50 probably) used about two stacks of torches making the place as bright as possible and watched over my new friends for several days. Then I built a ton of "houses" and got them to start breeding. Now I have 30+ and an iron golem to watch over all of them. I built a "Mayoral Home" on the hill at the edge of town and started a diamond mine.
I plan on building this into a huge community.
Also, there was an abandoned mine directly under the village.

Better yet... put a torch under the block that the track is sitting on. No torches to see and very easy to install!

I have an account with DynDns.com. I've got an address (for example, "example.dyndns.org") that I have forwarded to my IP address so they can be used interchangably. This is a free service.
My router has built-in functionality to log into DynDns with my account so if I do lose power or just randomly get assigned a new IP address, the router automatically contacts DynDns and updates my IP. This way, everyone accessing my server only needs to know the DynDns and not the actual IP.
I've never heard of anyone offering this service for free... no-ip (mentioned earlier) does; which is awesome that I know about that now - but even going to dyndns.org they show their entry level service as $20/year. Is there something I'm missing?

I don't want the ip address of my router to change when the router restarts, so where do I buy a fix for that
The first thing to do is see if your IP really does change. How often does it change?
I don't have a "static IP" with Comcast but even after power outages/restarts/etc I've had the same IP address for months or more at a time. I just gave my IP to my friends and they've been connecting to my server with the same IP ever since I started it.
Your IP may change more frequently - or you may want something easier to remember - in which case the suggestions above are all good. Personally, I'll just tell my friends every time my IP changes; which seems to be virtually never.
EDIT: You didn't say if this was for a few friends or a public server. If it's public I'd definitely say get a service like no-ip, dyndns or tzodns.com.
Jul 24, 2012chjade84 posted a message on setup minecraft multiplayer survival server for your friendsI started mine - and I actually just used my personal PC (3.0GHz Intel dual core, 4GB RAM) as the server AND my client. It seemed to work pretty well overall. I've since moved it to its own i3 machine and it's even better.Posted in: Server Support and Administration
You can make the server whatever you want, but it will be the same for everyone. Creative, Survival, easy, hard, etc. All you really need to do is forward the right port on your router, put yourself as an OP in the ops.txt (useful on occasion if you can resist the urge to cheat), maybe do a whitelist (edit the whitelist.txt file with all of your and your friends names), and then open the server properties (text?) file and read online what all of the options do. Then set it up however you like and send your friends your IP address.
It really is pretty easy.
I personally don't like any game enhancing mods, but if you want to modify it to include currency, teleportation, repairing, cars, zeppelins, etc - look into Bukkit. http://bukkit.org/ It's an alternate server program that allows you to add all kinds of plugins.

So after exploring the server I play on for hours I found a nice place to build with good potential, I really want to do the area justice and make something that will look amazing but I have no inspiration! Here is a picture of the area I have to work with and any help or tips you are willing to give to me will be a great help. I'm playing in survival so nothing too unrealistic would be great!
First thing that came to mind... Tree House Village! Would actually be doable with your limited supplies.
Take the tall trees and build wooden platforms with wooden railings just below the foliage. Connect with bridges of some sort.
I actually want to go find a large jungle so I can do this now... lol
Jul 6, 2012lol no that is not the graph I am looking for.Posted in: Discussion
It's not bad, but the one I've followed before didn't seem to be so evenly distributed so I wanted to compare the two.
The graph I am looking for is vertical (depth) instead of horizontal...
Jul 6, 2012There used to be a chart showing the depth and occurrence percentage of all the ores on the wiki... but I can't seem to find it anymore. I used to use it all the time and I thought it was just on the mining page.Posted in: Discussion
Anyone know the chart and where it went?
