A lot of things changed due to me rewriting the attack system and AI, well basically about 5% of the previous code stayed. I didn't really want to make it 100% fireball attack, so instead of having constant fireballs, I'd like... something different, like the stealth attack (but that one doesn't get too much chance between special attacks), so if you have any idea on quick attacks between special attacks/while he's not angry, feel free to share :) .

Another thing, really good gear is... really good gear, I can't think of any type of damage that'd kill people with protection IV armor, other than pushing them into the void and hoping they don't have any more OP armor. Fire resistance potion does a lot, and that's also why I need something else than fireballs. But keep it legit, if you spent a lot of time getting diamonds and 180 levels (minimum) to enchant your stuff, it'd be unfair to have something like "Pickup" attack into the void.

Anyways, thanks for playing, I'll do some tweaking but I also need some original ideas that'd be difficult, but balanced :) .

Well, I don't have any ideas atm, but I'll definitely let you know if I think of any. I do agree that something like the pickup attack is definitely unbalanced. Also, meant to mention it in my first post, but the worst attack for me was summon. The angry endermen not only got my attention off of the dragon, but with several I nearly died from them several times, even with OP gear.

This makes me ridiculously happy. Been waiting for a long time, thanks so much Chylex! I'll let you know how the fight goes. :)

    Edit:
Just beat it in hard. I went in with high level enchanted iron armor, enchanted bow and sword, and potions in hopes of preserving my diamond armor. That didn't go so well, so I went in again with basically the top gear in the game. While it wasn't easy, I did not find it super challenging.

While I loved the fight, I feel a bit uncertain about the reward. Did you by any chance reduce how frequently the dragon attacks? I remember in 1.2.5 he would fire fireballs like crazy, and it made things annoying as hell, and it doesn't seem the same (or maybe I am remembering wrong?). Much of the time he was flying around. Anyways, since it isn't too difficult to beat with really good gear and potions(which is relatively easy to get) I feel the reward is a somewhat too much. Maybe increase the rate of attacks? Dunno, just my opinion.

All in all I really enjoyed the fight and wish it was more like this in vanilla. I'd say it might need some tweaks, but it is still being worked on. Thank you so much Chylex, for your hard work!

I'm not very good with mob spawners, but I'm a little sure that you built the spawning pads too high up.
EDIT: and I think Mojang may have changed the statistics for how far away you need to be standing from the spawning area for it to work. Just an idea

Unless it was changed in 1.4, the pads should still spawn mobs. It works fine in 1.2.5 and 1.3.2, and according to gtaylor (above), it should still work. As for distance from the mob farm, I am relatively sure the mob farm is far enough away, and in any case I have stood at various positions with no success.

OK I've done a bit of testing. Mobs will definitely spawn up to y=254.

If you go and knock a hole in the wall of your trap can you see mobs on the spawning pad/s?

No, I do not see anything on the spawning pads, and I do know for a certainty that nothing is spawning in there. I think Minecraft has been weird with mobs spawning above 128 since the build limit was released. I had one in 1.2.5 that I had to climb all the way to the top of to get it spawning.

You need to be fairly close to them in order to get them to spawn

Like I said, I was getting excellent rates in 1.3.2. I am definitely close enough. Thanks anyways.

I use a modified version of Monkeyfarm's "Endless Mobs" Mob farm and it works just fine. You may need to provide real technical details to figure out the problem.

Unless I am misinterpreting what you mean, "technical details" have nothing to do with it. I have already given a basic description of the farm, but I can say with a relative degree of certainty that the way the farm works is not part of the problem. If the mobs are not coming down, that would be a different matter, but mobs are not spawning at all, nothing to do with the way the mob farm works. Thanks.

Try building arms out from the top in each direction about 16 blocks long and see if it starts spawning again. Also I was thinking that in 1.3.2 mobs couldn't spawn above Y=240? So perhaps in 1.3.2 only the lower levels were working for you then?

I'll try that. I didn't know anything about mobs not spawning above 240. Regardless, I was getting excellent rates in 1.3.2, and now I am getting absolutely nothing (except for a few mobs spawning when I open up the world). I am assuming this has something to do with chunkloading, which is why I mentioned having blocks to the build limit, and I have placed and broken blocks on top of the farm. Thanks

My flushing dark room mob trap works fine in 1.4.5. You need to determine whether the problem is mobs not spawning at all, or whether they are spawning but not moving into your trap.

A description of your mob trap would be useful.

Sorry, forgot to mention mobs are spawning fine. I have two mob farms, one underground and one in the sky. Mobs spawn fine in the underground one and on the surface. The mob trap is a simple water canal one. There are something like 600 spawning spaces, spiders cannot spawn in it.

Has anyone with a sky mob spawner had trouble with spawning? I built a mob spawner in the sky in 1.3.2, and was getting excellent rates. Come 1.4.5, almost nothing will spawn. The first spawning level starts at 226, the last at 251. It is completely dark inside, and there are blocks on top leading right to the build limit. I do know there were problems with this in 1.2.5(?) but I thought they were fixed. Any ideas?

Did you look at the newest design?

What would you like done to it? as I said, I'm not sure it's possible to have it work on two button presses (push > glass, push > grass)

Yes, I did look at the newest design. My original intention was to have it cycle through the two modes with only one press of the button, but if that is not possible without it becoming overly complicated/big, then I don't mind. Thanks!

You can't completely hide all the pistons. You could have a block swapper set up, but it would block the glass. Theoretically you could have two pistons, one to pull the glass block and the other to pull the piston, but then you would have the glass block and piston in the wall - Which is no good.

I'm not sure what you mean. Take a look at my world download, or even UK_Legend's solution, it is possible. It isn't that I want the pistons hidden, but it can't be directly below the glass.
    Quote from TidalConch

Try and give a better description of what it is you actually want.

Sorry, I really don't know how to better put it. Did you look at my world download? It might help to look at UK_legend's as well.

    *Sigh*

Alright, it is done.. a block swapper, with a single input

It's large though, it can easily be made compact but it does the job <_<

    http://www.mediafire...3go2dj9wgb46lwh

Sadly, this is the best you can do (to my knowledge), in terms of only having a single input without a piston under the glass

    So for example, it's

Press > raises grass, pulls the pistons back in, leaves grass there

Press > Pulls back the grass, and the pistons back into the wall

Press > Raises the glass, pulls the pistons back in, leaves the glass there

Press > Pulls back the glass, and the pistons back into the wall

If anyone feels they can improve this, please, download this and do it :P

Thanks dude, I really appreciate the help!

    Working also :P

    Alright, I got this..

I'm not very happy with it but it does what you ask

I will continue to tinker with it as I'm positive it can be improved

Improved it quite a bit, but I'm confident I can improve it more, I'll carry on :P

    http://www.mediafire...81y5y4vzl5jtdt4

I'm not sure how confusing it is, but Mode 1 (grass) is already on, so make sure to turn that off, before turning mode two (glass) on, otherwise you're gonna have a bad time.

Not really, it'd mess it up though, you'd need to replace the blocks back in the pistons

Ah, very cool. This is it! I was trying to do something similar but it didn't turn out so well. I suck at redstone :D. My only question is, is there an easy way to only have to press the button once? LIke hoop it up the the vertical redstone tower and have it switch by pressing the button below? If not cool, I'll deal with it. Thank you very much! :D

Here is the system messily built in creative. I thought that might help clear things up a bit more. Thanks for taking a look!

Not really sure how to best describe this. The premise is I have an underground mob system that brings mobs up to my base with a water elevator. I have a button that changes the mode. Mode 1 sends the mobs into a lava grinder. Mode 2 removes the lava and sends the mobs up higher and drops them down where the drops would go from mode 1. The main difference is there is a glass block at the surface that gets revealed, killing the skeletons and zombies so that I can use a looting sword on the creepers. When I made this world, I decided I wanted my base to be mostly hidden, so what I want to do with the glass block is only there when I want it. Obviously this means block swapper, but I can't have pistons under the glass, otherwise the whole sunlight thing doesn't work.

Here is my attempt at explaining what it would be:
A flush with floor block swapper that works with glass, and pulls the pistons out from under the glass block. I really don't know how possible this would be with limited space, but if anyone knows how to do this, it would be appreciated. I wouldn't mind taking screenshots if I didn't explain the situation well.

Sorry it's taking so long, real life's getting in my way :) but I've just fixed a huge issue with stealth (that was actually there since like, beta3, but in the new AI revamp it's much more deadly and optimized so it doesn't lag that much), so what I'm thinking is that I'm just gonna finish the 1.3.1 SSP version and then immediately update it to 1.3.2 w/ SMP, so after I finish all the testing (and school homeworks), in about a half a year (3 to 6 days without homeworks), it'll be released! :D
    (jk, screw the homeworks)

Is.. that a typo? Half a year? Anyways, glad things are going well, I've been waiting for this. Good luck with school, I totally feel your pain with the homework.

Hi, I'm working on beta8 version that's still for 1.3.1, so first I'm gonna do that for 1.3.1, and then when I find some time, I'll update it to 1.3.2. It takes a bit of time, because first, I'm recoding half of the mod, and second, I've been ultra busy for the last few weeks, so that's also the reason beta8 is not out yet :/. I hope to find time during the weekend to start working again ;) .

Just prepare a little bit more, because that AI revamp will make it even harder, not in a way he's gonna spam fireballs but he's going to be much more clever and actually pretty hard to beat, cuz he's gonna learn during the fight, so the less health he has, the more hard it'll get :D .

Cool man, thanks for the reply, great to hear. Don't worry about it, I've been quite busy myself, haven't touched my world in 2 weeks. Don't work yourself too hard :). Glad to hear its getting even harder, and once again thanks so much for your work.
